You haven't lived if you haven't tried a bidet.

  • non electrical.. does it mean manual pump?

    • +1

      Straight to tank supply

      • So it's cold water 🥶

        • +2

Yeah my hesitation initially too but it's just the first impact then it doesn't bother.

At first it's a icy touch then the water jet promises not to be harsh and goes in deeper and deeper until you are completely satisfied.

Summary 1: You can buy it but there is no way to legally install it (unless your bidet is supplied only by your rain water tank)

Summary 2: Bidets without WaterMark can be legally sold and bought. Bidets connecting to the drinking water supply must be installed by a licenced plumber. A licenced plumber cannot install bidets without WaterMark.

      Details:

      https://www.vba.vic.gov.au/news/news/2020/vba-issues-health-…

All home-made, self-installed and non-compliant sanitary toileting products are illegal, pose a health risk to the community and should be removed from bathrooms and toilets immediately.

There is a high risk of sewage contaminating the drinking water supply if an installation is non-compliant or no high-hazard backflow-prevention device is installed.

      https://watermark.abcb.gov.au/consumers/what-watermark

If a product is listed on the Schedule of Products and is to be installed in Australia, including those purchased via online stores like eBay and Amazon, the product must be:

      • WaterMark certified
      • marked with the WaterMark trademark, WaterMark licence number and the applicable product specification
      • listed on the WaterMark product database
      • provided with a Scope of Use statement specifying its intended use.

It should be noted that it is legal to sell non-WaterMark certified plumbing and drainage products in Australia. However, if the product type is listed on the Schedule of Products but is not WaterMark certified, a licensed plumber is not permitted to install it.

      https://www.productsafety.gov.au/news/covid-19-supplying-and…

In Australia, the installation of bidet products connected to the drinking water supply must be undertaken by a licensed plumber. This ensures that the installation complies with the Plumbing Code of Australia, and the appropriate cross-connection protection is provided.

To be legally installed in Australia, certain plumbing and drainage products, including bidet products, must be certified through the WaterMark Certification Scheme, which is administered by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB).

Hi, I am a bit overwhelmed with all the discussion here. In your opinion, if I were to purchase this bidet and buy the Bunnings backflow is this something I could install myself (level of handyman-skills are very low).

          • +1

@DrSwag: Yes, very easy. Just ensure you have the back flow preventer the right way. (You'll know if no water comes out)
They usually have an arrow to indicate the flow direction.

          • +1

@DrSwag: Installing the bidet & the backflow preventer is something you can physically do but you cannot legally do.

    • Who is gonna come and check?

      • When your water tastes different…
I think you may regret not getting a plumber in to install.

        • +8

Taste different why and how? If you think that washing your bum water sprays back at the bidet and enter those tiny holes against the water pressure and flow back till your kitchen, think again! The chances of that happening are 0.0001%? There are much higher chances that someone would have dug their noses, or peed and not washed their hands and then would have shaken your hands.

@John Doh: I'd also genuine like to know how this happens to warrant this warning.

Theres a ultra thin version for a few dollars more, thin one looks subjectively better, slightly less of an eyesore imo.

From my extensive research (1hr youtube) this appears to talk about the main themes as per earlier in thks thread.

My toilet has back entry (inlet is from the wall within the tank), any idea if I can add a T fitting and run an extra hose through the bottom of the tank and connect the bidet from there?

    Diagram available here: https://www.caroma.com.au/bathroom/toilet-suites/classic/lun…

    • I need to know too.

    • Same here, both of our toilets are like yours and I can't get a clear answer on the web.

    • This is the only thing that's stopped me buying one of these. Need to know how it will route

    • same here, no luck yet in finding the right solution

    • @mrgeckoz,
Looking at the installation guide provided in your link (https://gwa-prod-pxm-api.s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/pdf…), still the inlet hose come from outside (Fig. 6) connecting at the bottom of cistern. Most likely this is not the model(or similar to the one) you have?

      • It can be installed in either way.
Glad to know I’m not the only one lol!

    • ours the same though ran water from the external tap at the bottom
did you try to see if you can remove and use the holes located on toilet ?

      • I asked a plumbing expert in bunnings and the answer is yes it can be done. Need to make sure you have bought all the tee junction, nuts, rubber washers and hoses before you start on the job though.

  • +1

I'm going to give you my 2 cents and say get an electric bidet toilet seat Vs this kind if possible and whatever you get definitely get it installed correctly by a plumber.

Having a bidet toilet has been so awesome and that feeling of kind of dreading your daily. Gone.

A heated seat is luxury, feeling clean and having a drying option. Game changer.

    • +1

Which brand or model do you recommend?

      • +2

So we got this because our old toilet wasn't compatible so it was an all in one solution.
        https://www.bunnings.com.au/evekare-raised-height-rimless-ba…

It has heated seat, front, back, massage, night light, air dryer and remote control that you stick on the wall so there's no side panel.

The evercare seat by itself is 399. Most seats are about that price and above unless you import from China (may not pass Australian standards)

Since our old toilet was the wrong shape we had to get a new toilet anyway. So the complete package made sense.

Getting it installed is highly dependent on if there's a tap accessable and you'll obviously need an electrician to put a new plug in.
The plumber was by far the most costly part for us. Had to get a new tap and install the toilet. It's dependant on your setup at home.

Most seats are 400 plus so I'd recommend that package from Bunnings, it's good value.

        • Thank you for that. We have new toilets already so would have to look for just the seat. Already have water and power GPO next to the toilet so that aspect is all sorted.

  • I have this for half a year now and it's definitely worth it.

    • How does the self cleaning nozzle work? Does it shoot the water downwards?

    • do you still get the "poo aftershocks" after use?

  • I have tank water with the Ozito water pump. It doesn't have the same water pressure as mains supply. Will that supply enough pressure to make this work?

    • My existing bidets work fine with our tank/pump

  • So if my water supply is recycled water (non-potable water), no issues with own installation?

    • Filter is recommended

      • To filter what? Or are you referring to the backflow arrestor?

  • +2

not to brag, but i bought a toto bidet on the weekend.. waiting for it to be installed. Never looked so forward to having a crap

    • +1

I don't believe you. You're so full of crap.

      • not for much longer!

    • I play the toilet song from south park while I'm using the electric bidet. It's luxury lol

      • I always play katy perry let it go

  • To bidet or not to bidet, that's the question.

  • Purchased off Amazon, installed myself 24hrs later, working great.
