AQARA smart door lock A100 Zigbee - Seems to be one of the cheaper deals if we exclude aliExpress purchases. Pretty decent device that supports fingerprint reader, mechanical key, keypad, and most importantly HomeKit integration.

  • Is this better than Eufy Smart Lock Touch+wifi?

    Any OP have experience ?

Zigbee is much better than Wifi for things like this, mostly for battery life reasons.

I wouldn't touch Eufy after they lied about security vulnerabilities in their cameras. I've no experience with Aqara locks but I have a heap of their temp, motion, and door sensors around the house. Cheap and very reliable.

Can't really tell for sure as I'm just getting started with home automation and smart things in general. But initial tests of the doorbell looked very promising. All reviews of the start door lock were pretty good so I'm willing to give it a go. On my way to pick it up right now

These look like the duck guts.

However, be aware they are a mortise lock, so if you don’t already have a similar sized lock in your door, installation might be difficult..

Not sure if its suitable for myself. I have solid wood door and this requires a lot of wood excavation. I would rather stick with the standard circular hole size that it has or is at least a another standard size. Seems to work best for metal doors.

There is no F in way that I would ever trust a smart door lock for my home. I've seen enough videos of these getting bypassed or having vulnerabilities.

Don't want the Locking picking lawyer on YouTube then. Every lock is not safe. :)

    • Links? I opted for a smart lock without a key, since that seems to be the most vulnerable part.

Locks only stop honest people getting inside. If someone really wanted to get in, they'd just smash a window. You can get locks that are extremely difficult to bypass or require highly specialised tools to open, but your security is only as strong as the weakest point anyway.

  • Good local price but still cheaper from Aliexpress - $343 free shipping https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004749010013.html

    • I think you have to pay GST on checkout as well so it may be more expensive

      • You're absolutely right. $374 incl tax. Bing Lee is the better deal.

  • Any thoughts on zigbee vs the other locks which connect to wifi? I have read since these use zigbee tech, we need a seperate bridge if you want to control the lock when you are away which sorts of defeats the purpose of a smart lock.. If you are at home, you can control it from phone since it will connect via Bluetooth.. I am not 100% sure on this since I found this when I was researching. So if anyone who is using it can confirm it would be great. Thanks.

I've had the Aqara Smart Lock version 1 for four years now. By far the best part is no longer having to carry physical keys. Finger print and NFC are so fast and convenient. And never worrying if you've locked the house, it's always locked. Mine doesn't have a remote lock function, and I've never had a need to use it. If someone new needs to get in, I can make them a temporary PIN. I can't find an answer to your Bluetooth question either. Bluetooth may allow control through the Aqara app. You definitely need the HomeKit Hub if you want to control it from the Apple Home app.

I've had this A100 for about 6 months now. As @spiderbite88 mentioned, best past is no longer having to carry physical keys and don't have to ever worry about getting locked out. I got this specifically because it had good reviews and HomeKit compatible.

I can confirm if you don't have a hub (HomeKit or Aqara) then you can't connect to it away from home. Bluetooth is your only option and only for while you are at home, which is kinda pointless except for the initial set up. You can get the Aqara E1 hub for pretty cheap. Connecting the lock to a hub is definitely useful for setting up automations, scenes or even just basic notifications for when the lock has been opened, closed, locked or unlocked.

  • This or the d100?

  • How about this vs kaadas K9? Any thoughts or feedback on kaadas? Thanks again

    • +1

      K9 is push pull
      A100 is lever handle

K9 automatically locks the 3 deadbolts when close the door
A100 automatically locks the latch after 3 seconds, not the deadbolt. You have to lift the handle for deadbolt

K9 has inside sensor to open gently
A100 have to push handle down

      K9 uses Sweden fingerprints sensor
      A100 not sure
But both fingerprint reading speeds are very fast and accurate.

K9 has built in wifi module
A100 needs hub for remote management

K9 app is for locks only
Aqara app is for all other smart devices for a smart home solution
