Addressable RGB LEDs means you can create graphical effects with these. E.g. stripes, etc.
People keep comparing price of hardware only.
You can buy addressable leds on Ali way cheaper than Twinkly. But what are you going to do with it?A lot on Twinkly money went into software.
With Twinkly you throw leds into your tree. The. You “scan” your tree from different angles using the app on the phone (while leds are blinking with specific pattern).
Then the app build 3D model of your tree - from that point it knows the location of each led.
Then it can apply various complex moving patterns.So with Twinkly you are paying mostly for software.
If there is an open source project which does the same with similar user experience - theb you are good to go with addressable LEDs from Ali. :)

You can if they match (aka you have the RGB version) & not the RGB+W
I believe with the new Twinkly update you can pair RGB with RGBWs.
You can pair music to be sync'd to the lights with Twinkly Music Box ($29 from $59)- but the lights needs to at least "version 2" (for anyone having an older set)
Note: amazon price for these are about $10 more ($39) - with free delivery for prime - as DJ delivery is $10 unless its click and collect.The Twinkly Festoon (20 bulbs) on amazon is $129 (down from $239) = $10 more than DJ's
Protip: you can decorate these lights by hanging some DDR5 sticks on them.
Does anyone know if these lights can be left on permanently? I want to install some lights on my patio.
If this helps, I’ve had my Twinkly compatible ones up in the patio for 7 months with no problems. Have turned on every night at least briefly for about 5+ months.
