          • @akma1: Thanks for sharing
Do you mean the live chat bubble? And what did you say??

            • +1

@capslock janitor: yeah chat bubble just said i want a free tyre rotation from nrma membership

  • Anyone confirm which states this works in?

  • My tyres rotate each time I drive. The quicker I go, the more rotations I get.

    • Yes they do, yes they do….

    • +1

Rotation means swapping tyres from back to front depending on how the thread is going.

      • +2

        *whoosh

is that still a thing? do ppl still say whoosh?

I don't care, I'm gonna keep doing it.

    • @Roland Waites

The quicker I go, the more rotations I get.

      Over the same distance? A-mazing.

  • Great reminder, thanks.

  • Does beaurepairs get paid by nrma?

    • They would get compensated one way or another.

  • I was wondering if I could get a few new tyres for me Trojan here?

  • +1

Got this done today, took half an hr.

    • Which location? Good to know a name and place to save messing around with looking up websites, etc.

      • Not sure what you mean by messing around. Just give them a call and book at your nearest centre. Just them your nrma membership number

        • Just told them NRMA member number over phone?
          Which state??

    • Did you get the puncture repair or the rotation/balance?

  • Good luck trying to get Free services from Beaurepairs. I brought my flat tyre in, first they said they’ve never heard about this NRMA freebies, only after I showed them the app & T&Cs then they agreed to have a look. Left the tyre there for an hour & they said it’s been driven flat (must admitted I drove about 500m on the flat tyre until it’s safe to pull off) so they cant fix it, have to replace with new tyre. But the worst part is that they took the tyre off the wheel but refused to put it back saying it’s not legal to do so! Now I end up with a 6-month old tyre separately from the wheel. All these could be done at Bob Jane T Mart in about 30mins.

  • Beaurepairs Carlton (Melbourne) did the free repair for my tyre, just mention the NRMA deal in the app, easy to deal with.

  • I went in to get four new tyres.
Instead, I had three new tyres installed, the 4th was still my old one (they forgot to change it) and they did a wheel alignment and balance. Charged me $75 for that privilege.

When I went to pick up the car, noticed the old tyre. They apologised and swapped it out. However, they didn't rebalance /align it after they did the 4th one. I asked the manager about it abs he said that when just one tyre was changed, they didn't have to do the whole wheel balancing thing again.

Can any of you car gurus please confirm that this is true? Because I'll be super mad at Bob Jane if it isn't.

    • Wheel balancing is done on each individual wheel/tyre when fitted. Wheel alignment done when all wheels back on the car (usually only front is needed). You don't need wheel alignment everytime you change a tyre. But any 'new' wheel/tyre combo should be balanced before fitting.

      • If they patch a tyre from the inside, do they need to balance the wheel/tyre combo again?

        • +1

They should. Removing the tyre would likely cause any existing balancing weights to become dislodged. I would say the prudent thing to do would be to rebalance the wheel.

        • +1

Yes. Any time the tyre is removed from the rim or the bead is re-seated they should check the balance, although often it won't need a weight adjustment. Suffice to say that if it was their own vehicle they'd probably want it done. Sometimes they'll mark the tyre/rim position so it goes back in almost the same position and won't bother with a balance check. Depends on how busy they are.

Strictly speaking they should check the wheel balance after any repair, although some plug repairs are highly unlikely to cause imbalance.

          • @Igaf: Thanks!
Goodyear Service Centre put an internal patch in my tyre this week and did not re-balance the tyre/wheel. Is there a way I can see if there is a problem through normal driving or high speed? Or should I go back and ask them to check the balance?

Note that I asked a the time whether they balance the wheel again after the patch and they told me that they don't need to as they mark the tyre (as you said) and put it back on in the same position. By the way, they charged me $40.00

            • +1

@d123: $40 for a repair isn't bad, Front or rear tyre? Balance problem will (may) be felt in your steering if front. If rear there will be less feedback. Very unlikely that it will be unbalanced but if after driving it you notice something "different" about the feel then take it back. Find a smooth straight road with little traffic if possible so you can drive, feel and listen without having to concentrate on traffic,

      • I'm guessing when they put the new tyre on, they did balance it, or else I would have started to feel it, right?
Or not, because it's the left rear that was changed? Is there anything I should look out for @Cliche Guevara ?

They deffo didn't do an alignment after adding the new tyre on.

Beware- it's a tyre selling scam. As mine were too new to push a replacement set on me, they (Chatswood and Annandale) claimed not to be allowed to rotate mine as the tyres had 2015 dates on them. Massive waste of my time.

    • Well, recommended tyre life is 5 years post install. Nothing wrong with keeping on for longer. But you know how they are…
Anything to make a buck off you.

      • +1

They could've stated that up front instead of waiting to have my car up on the hoist then saying that. Furthermore- I called their head office and they said there's no such rule.

        • Hope you escalated a ruckus about this poor anticonsumer behaviour..

    • As mine were too new to push a replacement set on me, they (Chatswood and Annandale) claimed not to be allowed to rotate mine as the tyres had 2015 dates on them.

That sentence seems contradictory. 8yo tyres aren't "too new" to be replaced, even if they have plenty of tread. Irrespective, unless the tyres were considered unsafe, age is no reason to not rotate or balance them.

      • Too new- I meant heaps of tread and even wearing.

      • And that's my complaint and their official reason to not rotate them. Despite their head office telling there is no such policy.

        • Local franchise attitude problem. The few times I've used Beaurepaires they've been excellent. Did you book in?

          • @Igaf: Yeah, both times.

            • +1

@MikeSYD: Dont blame you for being p'ed off,

  • Not entirely free for members. I got charged for balancing at Wollongong. No response from NRMA.

  • Got refused puncture repair at fountaingate. Was told only tyres less 4 years old are eligible for puncture repair. My car is 2012 model and had only done 35k KM. Treads are very got and RACV guy who changed tyres alealier told me that they are in good condition with lot of treads. Does anyone know if there is any such policy ? I had told them i am NRMA member.

    • I think technically if your tyres are 10 years old you are meant to change them anyways. The tread might be there but the rubber goes hard and its not as grippy. I think some brands even recommend to change them after 6 years so they're probably overdue.

In regards to the policy, yeah sounds weird but maybe its a liability thing for them as they shouldn't be working on tyres that old. Either way if it was me I would change the tyres just to be safe. It's also a good reason to check the tyres you are buying are fresh, they have a four digit date stamped on them so you can tell what week in what year they were made e.g. 3523 (made in 35th week year of 2023)

  • +1

Got this done telling specifically booking it as a free tyre rotation and balance from NRMA membership.
Was told it would take 2hours. Once finished I was charged $85 for alignment, and told the tyre rotation and balance is free, but alignment is not. Was not informed this prior
