[Refurb] Lenovo M710Q i3 7100T 3.40GHz 4GB RAM 128GB SSD Win 11 $119.20 Delivered @ Australian Computer Traders eBay

May not seem like great specs but the i3-7100 has a HD630 GPU capable of transcoding 6x 4K 10 bit HEVC streams to 1080p. Perfect for a low power Plex server. I believe these systems only use 12w when idle.
Also good alternative to The Raspberry Pi 4, overall cheaper after buying power supply and storage.

I have an old Dell MFF with a 7500T and the HD630 - it runs a 4k monitor (u2720q) just fine out the HDMI port

  • you will also be able to play Rimworld quite well on this

    • this is a W

  • damn, I just bought the CPU for $100 last month :(

  • What's the story with the wifi port in the back? Is that just a slot for an antenna should you install a wifi card or does it have one preinstalled? It says wireless in the description so I guess I am asking if it comes with an antenna.

    • if it says it has wifi, it probably does. or you get money back ?

The photos are just stock photos from the looks of it.

    • The pics don't show where you would screw the antenna onto.

They probably just throw in a $10 USB Wifi adapter.

I bought the i5 6400T, HD 530, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD configuration of this system for $99 a month ago to use as an always on Plex server and it has been working brilliantly. Very quiet and efficient.

I don’t do a lot of transcoding but the couple of times that i tried, 2 simultaneous 1080p streams were absolutely fine. I’d imagine the HD 630 will perform even better.

You need Plex Pass to use hardware transcoding though.

  • Any idea how this compares for gaming, currently looking to replace a family members PC that has a Nvidia 750 GPU

  • Could this be used as a steam link device ? To stream from my pc to this which would be plugged into my tv

    • +1

Sure can. Moonlight and Steam Link will work fine on this. Wired connection recommended.

Previous deals had better specs for the price imo

I've been sitting on the idea of putting up a post for these, they are a little different but would make an awesome media machine

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Fujitsu-ESPRIMO-Q556-2-Micro-Int…

They can take up to 3 HDD's and have an internal PSU so they are a neat little box.

We have a pretty high volume of them as well.

    • Do you know the idle power?

Calmago could you tell me if this Lenovo M710Q has 1 or 2 sticks of RAM? And at what megahertz? This would help us pre- order the ram upgrade.

    • Hi - for the Fujitsu would it be an easy install two extra 3.5" drives (along with the existing SSD)?

      • +1

Looks like one would have to replace the DVD in a sled. Not hard, but adds $12 if you don't have one.
Search for replace optical drive with SSD if you aren't sure what I mean.
It's not clear if the 512gb is m.2 or 3.5in, and I'm not sure if the m.2 slot supports nvme or only the old standard.

      • +2

I think the m.2 slot is NVMe. I've found a post on fujitsu forum where a guy includes a Samsung 970 EVO Plus in his Q556/2 system specs, not sure if that proves it or if the 970 EVO Plus can support both NVMe and SATA.

As for the other two drives, they both need to be 2.5" SATA, not 3.5" SATA. Apparently the linked system comes off the shelf with m.2 drive and no optical drive. That means you probably won't be getting the cables included for either of the 2.5" SATA drives and you shouldn't assume standard cables suitable for standard ATX motherboards are compatible until you confirm the motherboard connector types, and either way you probably want the official cables with proper lengths to fit the compact case. mskeggs is right that on top of probably needing those cables for both drives, you will also need a 2.5" drive sled to fit a compact optical drive bay.

So it looks like there's a bit of effort involved, but given there is very limited range of options for compact systems with multiple internal drives at reasonable cost, it's potentially justifiable. Would want to see idle power consumption though.

        • Sorry, 2.5in of course. No possibility of fitting 3.5in this size device.

  • Idk what "(fixed-function hardware + shader-based)" means, but intel AVC/H.264 removes that encoding caveat at intel 6th gen, and then for HEVC at 10th gen.

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/onevpl/develope…

Just make sure you're actually testing your codecs and bitrates and stuff, H.264 could end up being the better looking choice still at X-bitrate.
Intel AV1 is worse than a x264 1-pass slower preset, because that's the nature of hardware vs software encoding, so it's good to test this stuff with handbrake and OBS and compare some frames if you have the time.

If this end up being the 710q motherboard you can install CoffeeLake bios mod with a bit of effort and put in a chinese market intel 8th gen chip.

This is great. Where do you buy Chinese market 8th gen chips?

      • Aliexpress I guess 🤷‍♂️
