FAQ thanks to BG

Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including March 31 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. Using as a "recharge" is being dis-allowed and activating first and moving the number may be allowed but is frowned upon and may not be allowed in future depending on how you ask for it.

Enjoy!

Why would I pay an extra $50?

    $250 Delivered (Was $200)

Edit: OP changed it, my comment no longer makes sense haha

  • +1

I thought that they won’t increase this ? I guess have to wait till 4th July to know.

Edit: I found out just on their website. No increase from July 4th for $260GB $300.

But still good deal here nonetheless’

  • If this was last week :(

  • What's the cheapest prepaid SIM to port out from Boost?

    • +2
    • https://www.amaysim.com.au/plans/28-day-sim-plans/unlimited-…

I think this is a better option for an extra $5. The Aldi one will last you 2-3 days if your lucky being a tight ass

    • +1

Kogan is currently $2 (physical SIM) or free (e-SIM). https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/778643

Unless it's changed since I last did it (and I wouldn't put it past them….. I'll find out in a few weeks), it's possible to activate a Telstra $2 SIM without paying anything extra by deferring the plan choice.

The smallest Lebara starter packs are often on special at Coles and Woolworths for $4, but check the expiry date before you buy. The $10 for 7 days Vodafone starter packs are often on special at Coles and Woolworths for $4 also.

    Boost is ridiculous!

I decided to purchase the boost $300 SIM and tried signing up online. When the process got to the address stage I entered my address and the system found it. Then it wanted me to confirm the address it had found by selecting from a drop down menu, but my address wasn't there and I could not add it either.

So I called Boost directly. After 10minutes of pushing various buttons I finally got though to a person with an Indian accent who informed me that the only way that I could do it was to enter a different physical address and have the SIM sent there. No clear explanation was given. Even though the first stage of their system could find my address (in a major city), the second part couldn't, so I needed to have the address sent to some else address!

For a technology company, Boost is utterly ridiculous. Needless to say I am NOT buying a SIM from boost. If that is the way that they operate then I'm staying the hell away from them.

    • I finally got though to a person with an Indian accent

Why did you feel the need to think this was an appropriate and totally necessary detail to include?

  • +2

I am very happy with Boost Given the Telstra network , my only issue with them is still no e-sim support and no data rollover with 12 months plan.

    • +2

Very happy as well. Strong signal and good network. I have the same complaint. Wish they have the esim

    • +1 for e-sim support
if they supported smart watches, the whole family would port to Boost

    • You would think the data rollover would be beneficial to them as it would reduce the amount of people porting out and back in on the next deal that saves them $80.

Says $6 for $300 Prepaid SIM in CR? Where is $38 comes from?

  • +4

Picked this up for $237 early last week. Ported from Telstra and activated Boost today. Took no more then 10 minutes 👍

    • -1

      How come? It takes 24hrs

Since telstra and boost are internal, they 1st activate the sim with new number then they want you to pop in store and change the old Telstra number over the newly activated boost number so for 24hrs you carry a new number.

      Not 10 mins i guess.

      • I can mimic FBIs experience. Hopped on chat and got it ported over in maybe 20? They warn it can take x time to transfer but it's pretty much instant. I think it can sometimes depend on pre vs post paid existing plan too but wasn't an issue for me.

So far so good! Was paying telstras basic plan for 58 and got the 140gb version as I usually WFH. 58 to roughly 14 bucks a month equivalent (I got it from the oztechbiz deals) What a steal!

      • After verification of my ID, new sim serial number etc, it took me 3 min to take Telstra sim out then insert the Boost sim. Was told to wait 10 seconds and power up. 1 min after that the lady from Boost called. Checked mobile data was operational and done.

      • That’s the old process. It’s much faster now.

      • Ported my primary number in and out of Boost a few times this year, my last time took about an hour to port from amaysim but my service was down for literally just 5 minutes. Never had to go into a store

  • +1

If activating within 30 days this is a bloody good price.

  • Thanks, almost got the 140gb deal but this is better value.

  • +1

Don't forget $10 bonus email from Cashrewards here

  • Just confirming, Cashback offer expires on June 30?

    • +1

At 5pm yes. Unless sold out or withdrawn prior.

      • Cheers

  • I’m spewing! I wish I saw this earlier. 3 hours ago I waltz into officeworks and got them to pricematch, got it for $237 and I thought I won! Regardless I love hustling officeworks, still a win I guess

  • Does Boost support data pooling?

  • Still no esim

  • Does anyone know how long you need to wait after porting out, to be able to port back in and be regarded as 'new customer'?

  • +1

    Doh!

SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering.

  • Damn, can I cancel my order of the 140gb one from earlier easily?

  • -1

I can't work out is this is for new customers or not. My current plans with Boost runs out on 17/6, so I think this is pretty timely if I can then sign in with new plan. Advice appreciated!

    • +1

May need to port out and back in

  • just bought 2! I am on Boost currently, love their service, as others said is it better to port out to Aldi/Amaysim, wait a few days, then port back with this deal? what's the time lag between porting out and back in and will there be any impacts / restrictions? - thanks gang in advance

    • Completely different quality of service
Like comparing 3 Star vs 5 Star Hotels

      • -4

Boost doesn’t use full Telstra network. Telstra is superior.

        • Boost doesn’t use full Telstra network. Telstra is superior.

Yes it does. It's the only Telstra MVNO that has access to the full Telstra network.

          • -2

@cute as duck: Then why have their been reports on here that Telstra is still superior?

            Edit:Link

I completely agree. I call 100% bullshit on full telstra network. Where I used to easily get reception with Telstra I now do not with Boost. Shopping centres are an example of this.

    • Yes, if you want inferior mobile coverage.

    • Boost exists like a god on ozb, it's a profanity to say anything bad about it.

      • Repent!

  • Is this truely full Telstra? Had Aldi for a while but it had worst reception than Telstra, black spot where Telstra did not etc

    • Yes it is full Telstra retail network, as it says in the post & on Boost’s own website. More coverage than Aldi.

  • Edit: nevermind, just scrolled to bottom of Q&A and saw the answer. Bummer.

Can I get this instead of recharging at $300 if I'm already with Boost?

    • +1

Need to port out and back in. Some suggest using an aldi sim

    • Yes, why not? Port out for a day then port back in.

  • Forgive the ignorance but can these boost sim cards be used in LTE laptops for their data usage? Looking to take a mobile LTE device with me everywhere with easy internet connectivity

  • Does Boost send you an SMS to confirm sim porting?

Just wary about moving the wife back to Boost if they're not gonna be secure around this stuff.

    • Yes (and I think it's been a requirement for a while now).

      • Good o.

I was just reading on WP. I assume you mean this legislation: https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2022L00548

EDIT: SMS for sim porting isn't used if the scammer says it's lost or faulty. So they just need enough of your information to do the porting. Seems like mobile carriers need a better process.

  • what about international roaming ?

    • +1

You pay for the roaming pack. It's an add on as per all Boost plans. I am currently in Hawaii. Was $40 for 14 days, 5gb, 60min, 60 sms.

For my use case, $40 was okay.

  • Can someone confirm that the 260gb is for 1 year? (around 21gb/month)

    • Confirmed it is for 1 year.

  • my cashback didn't track.. why do these third-party reward systems exist why can't they just reduce the damn thing instead.

  • Just bought the $250 through cashback and using the current kogan $0 esim to port out then in again.
Just waiting for the kogan SIM to activate now

    • @egginthesky currently doing this as well, how long did your Kogan Sim take to activate/port number in?
Any issues porting back to Boost from Kogan? How long did you wait with an active Kogan Sim?
      Thx

      • I've done it a few times over the years.
This time I did a kogan esim - bought it around 10.30pm and ported the number and activated at the same time. By the time I woke around 6am, the kogan SIM was working. (Likely almost instant if done between 6am and 8pm).

I'm waiting for my boost SIM to arrive, but from what I remember - the porting back to boost was within 5-10mins.

I'll update when I receive my SIM on monday

  • Website says 260GB on activation for new customers. 240GB on next recharge. Activate and first recharge by 3 July. Value SIM includes first recharge.

Do I need to activate before 3 July?

  • Just got the Sim and it has an expiry date of 10 May 2024. Do we still need to recharge by 3 July 2023?

    • Ok. Answered my own question. Digging further on the website it says…

From 4 July 2023 most of our activation and recharge prices are increasing and some inclusions changing. If you buy a SIM today, you’ll get the current data and inclusions upon activation, even if you activate after 4 July 2023. However, if you recharge after 4 July, your options will change.

So I can activate this for my wife closer to her current plan's expiry date and we can get 260Gb data. Even if it's 240Gb, she won't reach 200Gb usage over a year.

  • Stupid questions…. Does the cashback work by clicking on the 'Go to deal' button, or do I need to go through the cashback rewards website?

And if I buy the SIM say on the 29th/30th this month, it's likely to not get delivered to me by 4th July, do I still get the cheaper rate and 260GB data if I activate after the 4th July?

    • I was on the phone to them today and they confirmed that new sim activations after 4th July 2023 will still get the 260Gb of data. This is also on the website.

You just need to activate before the sim expiry date which will be on the sim packaging. My wife's one expires May 2024.

I cannot comment on the cashback… I didn't use it as I've had no luck with these cashbacks in the past. $250 for Boost is decent enough for me… my wife really wants to be back on Boost after her Kogan prepaid plan expires, I get a $50 saving and don't have to worry about a better deal during the next 4 months. I'll just set auto recharge on and she will bear the recharge costs going forward.

      • Thanks for clarifying some of it up!

  • Just signed up for this deal as im over paying $58 for the telstra plan
