Microsoft can eat a duck, a 2tb gen 4 drive for my ps5 costs ~$200, ol' mate Bill is taking the piss a bit with these expansion cards. Having said that it is a decent price compared to the regular rrp for these so I've +'ed it.

This is a very good price for this expansion card, but still, such a rip-off to make Xbox drives not swappable.

Its funny cause microsoft got rid of the market for memory cards by starting off making hard drives standard. But they always made the hard drives with proprietary firmware so you had to buy their expensive drive. It wasnt so bad with the xbox 1 because the drive was only used for caching and save files so the 10-20gb was huge but since the 360 microsoft uses it as a cash cow like the old memory cards.

  • When does the patent expire on these storage drives?

    • Never. It's proprietary firmware which the drm locked microsoft console looks for and if it doesnt find it it rejects the drive.

      • What a bummer that is!! Thanks for the info and reply…. appreciate it.

It's so strange seeing this at $242 right below a post for a 1TB SD card for $85

  • So a normal drive plugged in via a USB port doesn't work?

    • Not for most current gen games.

It works fine if you swap the game you’re playing to internal storage.

    The new 1TB Series S is $549RRP!
Microsoft want $250 just for the drive?!

Im sure Seagate have been profitering on this whilst being exclusive provider. WD are now also producing expansion cards (and was much cheaper than Seagate), so Seagate have dropped the price to try compete.

Still sucks they are proprietory in first place

      • This is the DROPPED price?!

        • Yep they were mostly around $350 - they dropped the price once WD released one much cheaper

  • Might wait & see how much these new WD ones will be before getting one of these

    • I was thinking the same but Bestbuy are selling the WD version for $149usd based on current exchange rates and add GST you are looking at about the same as this one, so I bit the bullet!

The cost of a Series S plus this might as well pony up the extra $100 and get the X

  • Decisions like this are why the Xbox continues to come last in the sales race.

microsoft is just copying what Sony did with PSP and PS Vita propriety memory cards

xbox coming last is more to do with
      - more sony fans from PS4 generation (which also won that last gen console)
      - sony has more better exclusives
      - sony dual sense controller is more advance than xbox
      - and probably these expansion cards (though I don't think the average consume actually upgrade their storage)

Xbox still better in game subscriptions and online stuff

    • Yeah im sure storage is in the forefront of peoples minds when chosing a console.
