Hi all

Was looking for a gamepad to play diablo 4 via cloud gaming and found this to be quite cheap.

Nice, but is the rechargeable lithium battery, replaceable?

    EDIT: https://shop.8bitdo.com/products/8bitdo-battery-pack-for-sn3…

Seems that it is. Youtube confirms this, also.

I'm sure a battery that is compatible could be found, elsewhere, other than the official site.

Looking at the shape, those are probably 14500's or something in there, so you can likely diy swaps.

Fairly certain this isn't able to be used with anything but Android, anyone correct me if I'm wrong

Can't pair it with PC, Switch, etc. unlike the regular 8BitDo SN30 Pro (not this Xbox branded one)

  • $40 is a fair price I'd say. For balancing reasons, you'll want to have the phone hover over the controller to view at a comfortable angle and without the phone/contraption, feel like it's constantly falling from you, imo.

Thats exactly why i bought the GLAP Play P1 Dual Shock Wireless controller for $45 from catch when it was on sale 2 months ago

  • Good price, I've had mine for 2 years and battery still holds charge. I use it on my lunch breaks to play some emulated games and fortnite. If you are planning to play long sessions on your phone I'd recommend an Xbox controller

Ah yes, another controller incorrected marked as Xbox compatible when it's very much not.

Downvoted for the JB's inaccurate description of the controller. This is not compatible with xbox. Only Android (and apple maybe?) according to the 8bit website. But as with some of the comments in the previous deal it may not be. Be warned.

      Yeah, the description is confusing.

Play Xbox Games on your Android Tablet
SN30 Pro is designed to support tablets for Xbox gaming, too.

But it's the whole marketing concept coming from the manufacturer, TBH: https://www.8bitdo.com/sn30-pro-for-xbox-cloud-gaming-on-and…

Agreed, very confusing. I just ordered one of these assuming it would be the normal Pro model with an Android phone mount included in the box, but turns out it's not. Claiming it works with Xbox when it only works with Xbox Cloud seems disingenuous. Surely any Android controller would be Xbox Cloud compatible? Too confusing for me.

I'm usually more vigilant reading through these things before purchase but I'm dealing with family health issues right now affecting my judgement.

It just arrived and despite being "Android only" requires a Windows PC to update it, which seems ridiculous to me. Play Store reviews of the "8BitDo Ultimate Software" (which installs as "Ultimate Software" so I couldn't find it, spent ages looking for an 8BitDo app) suggest Android update capability existed in the past but was removed.

Documentation is so sparse and confusing I don't even know if it will work with the Ultimate Software. It won't go past the first screen.

EDIT: a comment from another forum suggests "This game controller only supports DirectInput API and not Xinput. This means you can’t use it on anything but cloud gaming on android. The description on JBs site says it supports something that it doesn’t. It would be a great product otherwise." - so maybe it works neither with Xbox NOR Android. Key swap capability resets itself whenever the controller is turned off.

The JB Hifi listing claims many things. I'm not blaming them because 8BitDo's own website is atrocious. But if I can't get this going with any Android TV games I might need to organise a return.
