  • Wow, at this price it's definitely the 256GB SSD to get. But the price doesn't make sense, they don't even sell it this cheap in US and Japan. Makes me wary.

Wait, its not that amazing is it? Isn't the 240GB Sandisk only $14 more?

      • +1

        $14 more and 16GB extra.

        SanDisk @ $199 = $0.829/GB
        Plextor @ $185 = $0.722/GB

      • I think it's pretty amazing, you usually pay premium for a Plextor.

  • +1

This is a special promotion for our Facebook members. All stock is genuine Plextor with limited stock on hand.

  • This seems to be the same drive as the LiteOn @ MegaBuy - well they have the same model #. Except this one is well priced.

      • Was that a ninja edit? Swear it wasn't in your original post :)

Very good performance from this drive, it keeps up with the Samsung 830 and is a solid 'all round' drive. Anandtech's only complain is a mere 1-2 watt increase in load power over the M3 Pro.

Extremely tempted, would be great to move to Windows 8 with an SSD, but I may hold off just a bit longer.

        • +2

Moving to an SSD would be a great move. Moving to Windows 8 would not be a great move.

Plextor is normally over priced, but this is excellent value.

        • Each to their own, I'm already using W8 on the laptop and can't wait until it's everywhere. Performance is greatly improved even on my laptop's truly woeful 4200RPM 160GB disk.

        • Yea, I edited it, then saw u had posted the same link. I haven't tried W8 yet, I'll wait till the final version comes out on MSDN. Good to see some positivity for it, most people don't like it.

        • Final version is out on MSDNAA (Dreamspark Premium)! It's the first O/S in years I've had to become more familiar with, but somewhat like the Office Ribbon, the UI grew on me very quickly and does exactly what I want (just better), or takes less time to achieve what I'm trying to do.

        • just RDP or use W8 on a virtual console and you'll quickly change your mind (or lose your mind)… :)

  • They just launched the m5 pro not too long ago. this should be phasing out unless the m5 pro is another lineup…. which i doubt it is. If you're a new user to SSDs regardless of whatever SSD you go to, you'll feel a jump in performance so quickly you'll be wondering where was this magical thing your whole life. LoL

Balanced performance, but i'd pay a little more for the Sandisk and take a 16GB hit in storage. Also remember to ensure that you don't have a nvidia SATA chipset with the Sandisk like macbook pros , many owners are facing issues with it. I don't know if it has been rectified, I'm not a nvidia sata user, do some legwork.

    • Paying more for SanDisk and taking the storage hit is a big ask, imo!

They will be selling both M5S and M5S Pro, as they did with the M3 and M3 Pro. Anandtech only reviewed this drive in mid-July.

  • I have seen that Lenovo laptops can have issues with SSD's that don't have Marvel controllers.

This one does as does the Crucial.

  • I've been waiting for a unbelievably good deal on SSD's to make the jump, thanks.

  • Thanks mate, looks like a deal for me

Hidden costs: GST (another $17.15?) + Payment surcharge (for paypal or credit card).

Although an otherwise good deal, dislike these hidden costs

    • I got to the payment method page but see nothing extra added. When does GST pop up?

    • Total Inc GST: $188.70
      Thats using paypal.

    • GST is included, it states the specific amount of GST as per law at checkout/invoice.

    • I concur GST was in fact included. Not sure what I was looking at. Been charged 188.70. Sorry about the confusion xD

      • yeh i saw the same thing as you saw but the total was 188.70 so i figured it was the gst figure… but i can see where u went wrong.. :)

  • GST is included…

    • I concur GST was in fact included. Not sure what I was looking at. Been charged 188.70. Sorry about the confusion xD

  • Anyone help with a dumb question?
I don't know much about SSD's. I think this one is 9.5mm thick. Will there be any problems fitting it into a notebook (i.e. replacing the existing HDD)?

    • It is a 2.5 inch drive so it will fit in your laptop.

this is so frustrating! I am trying to buy this ssd and mwave website keep going down, i can't go to sleep without checking out my cart and i am so tired after friday night drink i want to go to bed! grrrrr!!!

  • Does this come with hdd bracket so you can put in a desktop?

    • it doesnt say its a kit so usually that means there is no bracket, you can get brackets for very cheap on ebay or even in some online shops if you look around…

      • So what do you search for on eBay.
        Ssd bracket ?
        Or 5.25" to 2.5" adapter ?

        • May as well buy it from the same place and save shipping. Here is a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter, so that your SSD will fit into a normal HDD Bay.

5.25" is a CD-ROM bay, I guess you could put it in there (with the adapter you specified) if you run out of HDD bays.

Don't buy that one because it will add $11 postage. I bought this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/160870481965?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN…

Cheapest metal one and in nsw

        • I thought the shipping would be included, my bad :)

        • nice i got the same one in my work desktop…. :)

  • Thanks mate, just ordered one for my laptop

  • Well I finally did it and bought an SSD…I was planning on waiting for $175 for the Sandisk but this works out to about the same $/GB

  • This is tempting….
Can this ssd raid with my existing ocz 120gb?
    Thanks

    • If you're thinking of RAID 0, then it's not worth it, because you won't notice the performance difference under most circumstances, and second OCZ's are unreliable as all hell. RAID 0 increase the chances of data loss, so that's even worse.

    • You can only RAID with a drive of the same size, brand and model.

  • @ Rep. Any chance this will get shipped to Melbourne metro by next Thursday?

  • Hi Guys,

We just got more stock! So get it while its still available.

    Cheers

  • Ordered Saturday night, received Tuesday morning in TAS.
    Very impressed!

  • Laptops hdd is on the fritz. Ordered one. Nice deal.

  • nice deal ordered 2x on 4/9 and received them via AAE on 5/9 next day !

seems only limited to max 2x of these per customer, otherwise i'd order more at this price!
