Port forwarding setups limited to 7 days. Pain in the bum for anyone wanting to use for torrenting.

Also, them switching the 50/60GB lifetime plans to the lifetime of Putin also highlights how any lifetime deal from any company should be taken with a grain of salt.

    • Was thinking about signing up until I saw this.. do you have a link where it mentions it?

      • +2

The life time thing? It’s in the Reddit link in the OP. Currently it only applies to the 50/60GB plans, but if they flip and change the definition for one plan type, they can do it with any other when they decide it’s no longer profitable.

For some reason they downgraed me from 50gb to 10gb p/m

    • Same :(

Read the linked article, as it and this offer applies to you.

In short you can take this deal up, or they’ll reinstate the 50GB for free but only while Putin is alive.

      • Thanks I can see I am back 50gb/m

      • I've read this, can't work out how to reinstate 50gb free. Can you please tell how?

        • The users that had the 50/60GB cap from early day signups I believe will see that happen automatically.

There is also other promotions which were “recovery relief” that I think have similar levels of data and were never advertised as lifetime offers and were intended to support extra data during some event. The plans that were under this are not being rolled back to the higher data and are remaining on 10GB. Refer to the recovery codes section of the Reddit post.

So depends when you signed up. You could always reply to the post or email their support if you think you should have been rolled back and wasn’t.

  • Their Australian servers are terribly slow. For me anyways..

Proton still the best free vpn, imo

    • I'm getting 91 down, 19 up and 4ms ping on Good Koala, using 100/20 FTTP.

    • I'm maxing out my (not too fast) fixed wireless NBN connection

  • Sucks because I had the 50gb plan but have since upgraded to pro 3 years ago, now can't get the $10/yr option

    • Maybe email them

      • I was lucky enough to sign up to pro on the 3 year plan with a different email address

  • Is Windscribe any good though? I have heard mixed reviews with Australia servers being horrible

    • Only one way to find out

      • Yeah found out by going free Surfshark.

$10 a year for life? Something is not right here!

    • +1

      What don’t you understand?

      • How $10 a year can really keep you safe and "private" online.

        • Normal price is US$69 per year. This is consolation to try and make up for pulling the rug from under earlier lifetime subscribers.

  • upgraded - thanks for the post!

  • I will probably sign up towards the end of Aug before 1st Sept when the offer expires - signing up too early just means that the future upcoming deadline to renew the subscription will come sooner.

But thanks Op for the heads up.

    • Putin might die before that time.

  • they downgraded me from 50gb to 2gb at some point, so i cant even get this lmao

Did you unsubscribe from their mail list? If you do that you lose your 10gb and go back to the standard 2gb.

Windscribe is not too bad. I'm still using the Pro lifetime subscription which i got years ago through Stacksocial and i like it. It's too bad that they don't offer lifetime sub any more.

    • does your expire when putin dOes?

      • +1

The paid lifetime ones do not. Only the free accounts are impacted.

    • same with you, so glad i got pro unlimited lifetime subscription. i expected them to last less than a year…but their still going strong, and it's speeds are still good, they must have passed that startup phase and are now actually making money

      • Yeah because they switched to monthly and yearly paid plans only so they're raking in the money. The yearly plan costs more than what i paid for the lifetime sub years ago. I guess they previously reached their previous customer target through the lifetime subscriptions to increase the customer base. And now they just want to rake in money through monthly/yearly plans.

        • Usually startups like this do lifetime plans as like a way to get initial funding, so that they can build the infrastructure and expand. Then once they have that all established they pivot to a more sustainable model which is subscription.

Us early adopters of the lifetime plans are the risk takers initially, if the business succeeds we get a good deal, if the business doesn't make it to that next stage then we lose our money on the lifetime.

I can't blame windscribe for turning away from lifetime, I'm just grateful I got in before they got rid of it.

  • Next thing you know, Windscribe changes their mind again and make those 50/60gb plans expire when Prigozhin expires.

  • I had a 30GB/month free account and then downgraded it to 10GB/month free account.

Whilst being grateful for the first 30GB /month I no longer feel confident in this outfit to trust them with or without money, imo!

A bit of backpedaling even though I still wish them all the best.

Thanks for the post. I missed out on the stacksocial lifetime deal and only bought the 2 or 3 year deal for peanuts at the time.
Anyway given that Yevgeny Prigozhin failed to validate his recent subscription, I decided to sign up again.

  • Has anyone used Windscribe for any other annual subscription hacks? Spotify/YouTube, etc?

  • +1

Signed up to this - after years of 'milking' my 'free' 50gb per month

the service of the pro is 10x better and faster.

Got to admit im happy paying 10 USD a year for life - does what it needs to so

thanks to the Turkey deals for spotify etc it has already paid for itself 5 fold

    • +1

Agreed, this is a no brainer IMO for those of us that didn't get the lifetime deal in the early days
