    Great machine

    • Why is it great?

      • +8

dual boiler, adjustable auto tamping, nice bridge between fully auto and fully manual, 58mm group head, adjustable steamer temp that can auto texture milk

        • thanks.

        • Why this vs the dual boiler?

          • +2

@tonydav: I would buy the dual boiler personally, this is about 700 dollars for a grinder and auto features you shouldn't use if you want to get the best quality coffee. At best the grinder in this is a $200 unit and would be affected by the heat of the machine

            • -1

@Paudius: Have you actually used both? The grinder isn't the best thing about it (although the auto measure is pretty great do less measuring and waste), it is the auto texturing of the milk which actually works pretty well. It gets you to about 90% of a cafe quality coffee with minimal work. You can also do everything manual on it if you wish like a dual boiler.

@tonydav: They are both dual boilers

Good reminder that if you're part of a union, they may have access to UnionShopper which has Good Guys and JB Commercial access.

      • Just reminded me that AWU union, just got this service back again.. thx

    • Coming up as 1690 for me. How are you getting it priced at 1584?

Applying the EOFY10 code doesn't work either.

Confirming I'm on the commercial site.

      • Same for me

      • you're right… i just double checked my ART super linked one and it's $1690… the lower priced one is from my workplace account so there's potentially different commercial agreements or plans…

  • had 2 of these, expect about 5yrs before needing all sorts of repairs. its a good unit though

    • What sort of repairs did you end up needing to get?

      • Only one for me so far is the plastic collar where the portafilta fits into which cracked about 2 years ago. Its a $18 part from Breville. Easy to replace yourself. Had it since 2016. I had a faulty unit to begin with with the milk frother and they wanted to repair it (after 3 weeks of purchasing). I politely said I wanted a new unit and Breville obliged. Ive seen that the pump is the other part that goes and its reasonably cheap and a couple of hours work to change yourself

    • about to send mine to the authorised repairer as the boiler is making cracking noises and steam wand releasing steam in rest position. good thing its still under warranty.

I wouldn't particularly recommend this. The auto nature of this machine makes it deliver less quality coffee than a BDB and SGP.
If you upgrade the SGP to Eureka mignon you will have a setup that just smashes this..
The oracle was the machine I held on to the least. Did not enjoy my time with it

    • The auto nature of this machine makes it deliver less quality coffee

Why is it so? Is it particularily about the built-in grinder? Or the tamping, or both?

      • +1

It is true - i have both the BDB and this. No pressure gauge on this, and milk frother isn’t as good.

But they are targeting different markets… my parents have only been willing to use this machine, never touched the BDB when that was available to them

      • Both plus the frother.
I found this machine to have the most difficult curve to make good froth. Auto frother only works decently for full cream milk. Any milk outside of this was subpar.
The built in grinder was always too hot and changed consistency of beans. The built in hopper wasn't great. Tamping while convenient, I found the results quite poor. You could never get the same quality extract or Crema to a manual set up.

        • +1

I recently changed from the auto frother on the bambino plus to doing it manually, really night and day difference in foam quality and consistency

    • Why can't you use it like a BDB and the rest of your household can just use easy mode?

      • That's how they marketed it and I fell for it honestly. But it's not the same at all the only comparison to the BDB is that it's a dual boiler.

    • +1

While you might not be wrong about that, I bought this the second time recently just because how easy it is to use for others in the house. Especially the grinding/tamping being clean and done by the machine with no mess.

      • This is true it is easier. As my wife is not comfortable at all coming to my e61 but was comfortable using the oracle. Because it did everything. But if you enjoy coffee it is not as good of an experience. No one ever said the coffee quality was amazing from the oracle. It was always highlighted for convenience… To spend that much on a machine and not have great coffee sounds like a disservice to the owner

    • +1

Oracle at work, BDB at home. Shots on the BDB are more consistent, and auto texturing hit and miss. That being said you can manually texture with the Oracle, still not as well as the BDB.

Big plus for the Oracle - it takes up a lot less room than BDB + grinder.

      • +1

Honestly that's also why I bought it. I wanted it to take less bench space but if space is an issue getting something like a Gaggia classic pro with grinder is slightly bigger and still better.
I feel like I'm being harsh on this but my feeling is generated from a person who really enjoys coffee. I go out of my way to source the nicest beans, anyone who has a coffee at my place generally enjoys it as on of the best coffees they had because I just care about the whole process. From beans to grinder to machine to extract. Coffee should be enjoyed and we just didn't enjoy it with the oracle.

  • Discount code also not working at good guys normal website. Saying not available. Reckon they've already pulled the code?

  • I know the deal expired this morning… still trying to decide between this and the Barista Touch Impress. If it was one of the other Oracles on offer I might have gone down that path but held off due to it being the cheaper Black Sesame model.
