its not the number of fans that counts, its what you do with em.

my experience with the previous generation of these is that the ASUS Dual cooler was much quieter than the Gigabyte Gaming equivalent.

That being said, the Gigabyte Gaming is a true dual slot, while the ASUS Dual is (perhaps ironically given its name) a 2.5 slot width card. So if you are building an SFF, I guess it depends whether you prefer your cards wide or long.

    • That's certainly a no brainer for SFF.

    • It doesn't look like a true dual slot card to me

      • The Gaming has a very slight overhang but it'll still fit in most of the cases that have a typical dual slot limitation (e.g. Phanteks Shift, Dancase etc).

Learnt the hard way trying to jam an ASUS Dual RX 6600 XT into a Phanteks Shift…

The cooler on the next-rung up of Gigabyte Gaming cards (6700 XT equivalent) is certainly closer to 2.5 slot.

Is 7600 really better than 6600?

    • +2

      15-20% at 1080p,

      • +1

In that case not worth $100 more.

        • -2

          yea I would go a 3060ti at $480 and about 30% faster than a 6600

          • +9

            @Rod M: If a 15-20% improvement for a 7600 isn't worth $100, is a 3060ti for a 30% improvement for an extra $200 much better?

For me at least it's about fps cutoff. Whatever gpu got me 60fps (I have a 60hz panel) in the games I wanted to play, I'd go for.

            • @incipient: ok I am looking at it differently and want to get minimum 120-144 fps @1440 in the games I play,

  • back in stock, worth upgrading from GRX1070 for 3440*1440 gaming?

    • +1

      Nah I wouldn't, it wouldnt be a huge jump and the 7600 isn't really a 1440p card.

    • +2

I mean, if you've only got $400 to spend on a gpu you probably can't do much better unless you go last gen or used ex-mining card.
As Wicko said, it's not a big jump. it's about 30-50% faster unless it's a game that's broken on pascal
The GPU market is really rough
If you want to look at last gen or used, the 6600XT or 6650XT perform nearly identical to this card on AMD's side (that's why i used a 6600XT for the example video). it's somewhere around a 3060ti for nvidia and it's very roughly on par with the A770 on intel's side but i'm not sure because intel data is all over the place from constant driver updates and reviews not usually including them in comparison charts, presumably because they dont want to rerun the numbers every time there's an update.

    • I wouldnt go 8GB for UW 1440P gaming. 12 GIG atleast to future proof.

  • Price fixed now.

  • Where all the 1440p card deals at?

    • +2

If you can lived with used and last gen these are fairly good value

        6800 is 4k

        • -2

"But not if I want 300fps or to play Farcry RTX."

Most gamers are infact this stupid. It even says 4k on the box. They think they know better than AMD's marketing team. Their argument is since Harry Potter and one other game have been released it's no longer a 4k card in general lol.

@Jimmy77: yeah now I understand why the market is so hysterical about those half arsed console ports lol

          • @Jimmy77: I get it though, with the consoles having more available VRAM, developers of games destined for consoles have less incentive to utilisation below 8GB. It's less people upset about a couple of games and more that it is indicative of how VRAM usage looks in 3-5 years and then they feel short-changed. It's all well and good to place the blame on the games but if you wanna play a game that happens to run terribly then that's a real consideration you have to make. And from what I remember of the 2000s period (which the port of TLOUP1 and Harry Potter remind me of) where terribly optimised ports were the norm, it's almost inevitable that one game or another that I want to play will have a terrible port.

That said, back then I learned to just deal with the lower performance and now I'm pretty much happy to just get consistent frame times.

          • @Jimmy77: Look at the number of downvotes i got for saying 4080 is overkill for 1440P. - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13921056/redir

I meant it in general, but I got negged like anything. lol.

            • +1

@John Doh: A neg is kind of like a "i disagree but not enough to be bothered arguing with you" button.
On a topic like this, every neg might be for a seperate unimaginable reason.
Some examples would be "not if i want x fps" or "its not bottlenecked on my overpriced cpu"
You basically cant say anything broad about pc performance here without some exception poking their head up with a rebuttal. that was the reason for my neg. I just didnt want to write this effort post, but now ive done it anyway.

      • Eh, I'd pay that for a new card but for used I don't wanna muck around with replacing fans or something like that if they're bodged in like 3 years after running 24/7 for mining. Plus it just feels bad to pay 100% of my budget for a used product.

  • They jacked the price and back to $499 after code expired

    • It was $499 before the coupons in my deal.

      • Yes, they jacked it not long after you posted it.

        • That was a mistake. It was supposed to be $499 and they corrected it.
