idk why you're getting negged, it's true.

I'm a Fuji X-Pro shooter myself, and have a few other systems.

      Fuji bodies are massively overpriced.

Fuji has also sort of given up on X-Mount, have released a few beautiful Fujicrons but they never really bothered with updating some of the 'legacy' lenses. 18mm is one such example.

  • Still expensive, I reckon it would be between 1500-2000$ in the next year when recession hits.

    • +2

tbh given how things go, it'd be that price whether there is or isn't a recession. FOMO and GAS and a likely update every 2 yrs to keep it going kinda guarantees it.

    • +3

Economists have predicted 10 of the last 3 recessions…

The X-T30 ii at $1199 is a good price, but there's only one left in stock; https://www.amazon.com.au/Fujifilm-16759615-X-T30-Black-Body…

  • I currently have a Lumix GH4. Any real benefits to trying to consider upgrading to this?

    • Technically Sony is the superior camera brand, much better autofocus. But Fuji is for artistic adventures in, particularly for Film Simulations.

      • I thought it was olympus?

      • What's so superior about Sony? It is not always about autofocus.

      • Fuji takes better pictures, unless you are doing sports photography requiring better autofocus.

        • No, Fuji does not take better pictures. If anything being APS-C it has a higher depth of field. I love the SOOC Film Sims but you can easily replicate that in Lightroom.

unless you are doing sports photography requiring better autofocus.

funny how people 10-15 years ago were shooting professionally with ancient DSLRs like 5Dm2 and D700 but never complained about AF.

X-H2 has good and reliable tracking that is suitable for sports photography btw.

Technically Sony is the superior camera brand, much better autofocus.

Nikon and Canon have both caught up in AF.

The only superiority i could think of is lens selection, and they are generally cheaper as they're always on discount due to the sheer volume they are moving as Sony Alpha is a VERY popular system.

Also, if you're not shooting professionally in Sports, you really cannot go wrong with any camera launched in the past 5-7 years.

    • GH4 was always well regarded as a video camera, so Panasonic S5 II would be the next step up. If you use GH4 for stills mostly then sure this will have a bigger sensor and the 40mp gives more room for cropping but would need to factor in lens price.

Depends on what you want to do, made the jump with the X100 series from a Canon 6D and have been with my XT2 since then. Shoot lots of landscape (long exp, travel hiking, waterfalls, astro, northern lights) and its done everything I can throw at it and that's without the IBIS from the XT5 and the updated auto focus and bump in resolution.

Shooting experience is great if you like to not be in menus, the XT series is really about the knobs on the top, get to them easily and all that. Having said that, most of the time, the semi-auto functions are more than adequate so I've never felt the need to menu dive too deep like I did with the old SLRs.

The biggest thing you'll notice is the extra definition in your resolution jump from the GH4 (16 to 40) and probably the colour representation which has that signature 'fuji' look. If those sound good, then also factor in lens costs, they're not cheap even with sigma now making lenses. However, the 18-55 stock is pretty damn good and was my go-to lens for travel for 2 years for its weight and performance.

I was going to buy one in Japan but I couldn't work out if there's an international warranty on it…

    • Is the price simliar in Japan?

If you live in Sydney there is an awesome FujiFilm store opposite the QVB that has the entire lineup of cameras to try.

Did not know this, thanks I'll have to avoid it otherwise I'll get divorce papers served

Panasonic G9 is far better value at $954 body only.

    • +1

different sensor size, resolution, sensor type, etc. Apples to oranges?

      • As are the cameras mentioned above. The G9 punches above its weight and has had some significant recent firmware updates. The $1450 difference can buy some great lenses. Not to say the X-T5 isn't a great camera.

        • As are the cameras mentioned above

          I dont follow.

has had some significant recent firmware updates

Can't see any updates within the past year and seems like 2 years since the last major update?

        • +1

People tend to forget that this is body only price……

The G9 is 6 years older than the XT5 so the tech inside is night and day between the two. Yet what you say is correct. With the G9 body now under 1K, the difference can be use to buy the two Lumix 2.8 zoom or some good primes to make a very good system.

With this XT5, you will likely need to spend another 1.5-2K on lens to have a usable set. 4-4.5k on a camera is a hard pill to swallow in 2023 economy.

Camera product life cycle seems getting longer and longer as manufacturer trying to maximise their profit margin which in turn keeping cameras at high price for longer period. I miss the days a decade ago when everyone is bringing out new models every year hence driving old model price down. Almost all my current gear where brought at that time just to play and experiment with. 3 different systems none cost me more than 2K. Those days are long gone.

Then there is the improvment on phone cameras in the pass ten years. Now all my gear hardly get use🤣🤣

          • @syswong: I travel with both my Fuji XT-2 and latest iPhone, I get pretty annoyed when my iPhone takes better pictures sometimes than my Fuji lol

            • +1

@tabboy: Sure its not just post processing on the iphone making it look better on a small screen?

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: You nailed one of the biggest issue here. Traditional photography need post processing. Phone camera do all that for you and getting better with every new phone. How much time is need to post thousands of photo after someone goes on a trip? If my phone can do all that for me, how much time I am saving?

              • @[Deactivated]:

Sure its not just post processing on the iphone making it look better on a small screen?

ALL digital cameras do that as well if you shoot JPEG.

                • @dukeGR4: Phones are notorious for over processing images so they look good on a small screen but absolutely awful once viewed on a monitor.
This argument is ridiculous anyway because a phone is simply not a substitute for a camera outside of perfect lighting conditions and limited creative control. If its good enough for someones standards of travel photos ok cool thats good.

            • @tabboy: yeah and every time I wrote on smartphone vs camera there will always be photo enthusiasts protecting the need of traditional photography which I agree….. if you are doing that for work a bit like the film vs digital when digital camera first come out.

The fact is digital camera has peak in terms of tech. say for a Fuji owner, is new ones going to take pics worth an 2.5k upgrade? No. On the other hand phone cameras are only half way there at most because half of the equation in that system is software and ifs just getting better everyday.

For the majority or people they already have a usable and better camera with them all the time. Traditional camera market in my opinion will just keep shrinking.

              • @syswong:

say for a Fuji owner, is new ones going to take pics worth an 2.5k upgrade?

ah yes, a fellow Fuji owner that reached peak performance.

i'm thinking of selling mine to fund Ricoh GR lol. I think it's a perfect marriage between smartphone and ILC.

Just waiting for Ricoh GRIV to launch, hopefully it will have more smart features.

                • @dukeGR4: Logically correct but practically it wont happen.

To have a true Smart Camera, u need a good set of optics and combine it with a customise OS may it be Android or IOS to achieve the end result. Both Apple Sony Google and Samsung has the necessary technology and resources to do this but none has attempted in the past ten years. The cost and the market that it appeal to simply not justifiable not to mention part of the photography community is very anti smart assistance in their camera.

                  • @syswong: I'm not exactly after a smartphone with a camera strapped on it either. Zeiss did try it with Zeiss ZX1, it flopped so bad they took it off market as it barely sold

What i was getting at is a camera that has a small footprint but with good optics. Ricoh GR ticks that box. But it's also 39 months old at this point, GR iv should have some newer technology is what i'm getting at.

            • +1

@tabboy: Tbh, i agree with you.

yes, the depth of field is MUCH MUCH higher, but if we're just talking about general photography and heck even hand-held night photography phones are much better.

For my usage, i think ILCs come to their own when the subject can be separated with bokeh. But at least for us Fuji users we can fk around with Film Simulations. Portra 400 FTW.

1975 called they want their camera design back.

    • -2

What's the deal with all the downvotes? Does this camera not look exactly like a 1975 camera?? It's even got that same tacky textured plastic finish.
