Several games announced in the recent Nintendo direct up for pre-order at amazon. Typically speaking, the prices shown here are as good as it'll get (unless Harvey Norman does a gift card deal).

The other advantage of Amazon is the pre-order price garauntee. No payment required up front, and if Amazon drops the price you get the new price. Or, if they don't, and you don't like the price, you can cancel before release with no penalty.

NOTE: Amazon seems to have all the release dates wrong. They're all different to the officially announced dates. I'm inclined to believe the officially announced dates (opposed to believing Amazon knows something we don't) because the official dates are all Fridays.

$69 Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Release October 20, 2023)
Price expired $64 Detective Pikachu Returns (Release October 6, 2023)
Price expired $64 Pikmin 1+2 (Release September 22, 2023)

EDIT: Price expired Super Mario RPG now available at $79.95. But I'd be very surprised if that doesn't come down to $69 later tonight or tomorrow.

For any tragics like me, they've also got the amiibo:
$21 Zelda
$29 Ganondorf

  • great game, I will need a deal for a new pair of joy-con though

    • +1

Whats wrong with them? Most issues can be fixed with cheap parts from AliExpress!

      • +3

Super agree with the ease of repairs - I wasn't able to sync mine due to issues with the shoulder buttons. I'm not particularly handy, and have never opened controllers or a console before. I watched a 5 min YouTube video twice, and then was able to fix a joycon in under 5 mins of actual "taking it apart" time. $10 for parts and tool set but that was off eBay, I'm sure AliExpress or Temu are cheaper.

Thanks OP, really looking forward to Wonder, looks like a massive step over the New series.

    • I haven't seen footage, but I guess I'll have to have a look, because from the description and images alone it just sounds like a series of setpieces which doesn't spark any particular interest in me.

Then again, I guess you could say Super Mario 3D World is just a series of setpieces, and I enjoyed that. Hmm. I'll have to see.

      • +5

Yeah give it a watch, one interesting tidbit is the lack of a score/timer in the corner so could mean a more exploration-based 2D Mario which will be neat.

Plus the art style and design is really great, sorta feels like those older 2D Mario artworks adapted to 3D.

    What's the release date?

    • October 2, 2023.

      • +4

It's the 20th actually, incorrectly listed on Amazon (for Wonder).

        • +1

Ah thanks, yep literally just copied and pasted.

Unless Bezos has a secret tunnel funneling Wonder out before official release..

          • @currentfad: Haha one can only hope!

I thought it was odd that it was a Monday, Nintendo games usually come out on Fridays which made me search it up elsewhere.

  • +2

oh my poor wallet, i need all of these!

  • -1

how long normally is a super mario game? haven't played any

    • +3

      Usually 10-15 hours-ish.

But going back and 100%ing levels (finding secret routes etc) will add a bit more.

    • +2

Play 1 at least - OMG - at least from the snes era or switch. If you need recommendations try searching google for best mario games or something.

      Otherwise try these:

      For single player

      Super Mario Bros 3
      Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
      Super Mario Galaxy 1/2
      Super Mario Odyssey

      For multi-player see google

    another mario game? :D

    • +2

The last new side-scrolling Mario game was released 11 years ago…

      • -1

I mean Mario in general they're are alot of Mario games on switch.

        • +1

Yeah but Mario features in almost every gaming genre; it makes more sense to look at the type of game actually being released. Nintendo actually only do one new Mario game of each kind every 5-10 years or so, and in this case 11 years, so it's not as though they're churning out the same stuff every year like a COD or FIFA game.

        • True, but you're talking about any game that has 'Mario' in the title (Sports games, Mario Party, etc) or games that feature Mario as a character.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a mainline Mario Game and those are generally considered the gold standard, not only for Mario games, but gaming in general. The Switch only has one mainline Mario game released so far: Super Mario Odyssey.

        • +1

I think Nintendo owns them or something

    • +3

Keep them coming! I want Mario Odyssey 2 on Nintendo Switch 2

  • -3

Have a switch which I rarely use. Which one is the Mario racing game for 2 players? Thanks

    • +1

      Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

  • I'm very excited about Wonder.

First original mainline 2D Mario game since 2011's 'New Super Mario Bros. 2' on the Nintendo 3DS (if you're not counting 'Super Mario Maker 1 & 2') and it looks like they're doing a lot of new and interesting things gameplay-wise.

  • +5

Super Mario RPG is gonna be the bomb!

    • No preorder for this one on Amazon

  • +1

Didn't know about wonder but looks brilliant. Can't wait

    • do yourself a favour and watch the nintendo direct stream, lots of cool stuff coming

  • OMG Can't wait!!

  • I love the 2D Mario games, this looks so exciting.

  • My ff16 preorder only just shipped today so hopefully these on the release date.

    • Unlikely - my FF16 preorder shipped late yesterday with Aramex :/ Might get in a week or two

    • got mine at 9:40am yesterday via gamesmen ebay… very impressed… unlike D4 which was a day or two late :(

  • Iā€™m confused, are prices going up on release? I fail to see how these are bargains.

    • Cheaper than EB..

    • +6

I take your point, and think it's a good one. But here's my rationale.

      1) All these prices include shipping. Whereas at competitors like Big W, JB HiFi, Harvey Norman, EB Games, etc - shipping is extra. If you're willing and/or able to go get the game from a physical store, then no harm.
      2) Amazon's prices, including these, are usually as good as it gets. It's definitely cheaper than the digital price of $79.95, and yes, beats EB Games (though I appreciate that's not hard)

So I feel it's a bargain (or at the very least a good deal) because it's shipped to your house for the same cheapest cost you could get if you went to a store to get it.

Finally, though not bargain-worthy in itself - Amazon requires no deposit for Pre-Ordering, letting you change your mind later and hold onto your funds. Also if the price drops at all (even for a day), you get the new lower price. Whereas at places like JB, you only get the lower price at release.

      • Pre-ordering also lets you secure the lowest price up until release date, and you can cancel if you change your mind.

        • +2

Not to be that guy. But that's literally what my last paragraph says in the comment you replied to.

    • Ozbarg could have a pre-order category lol for games of course. Or just highlight pre-order.

  • All we really want is another super Mario 3d world Nintendo get on it.

    • I liked this too. One of the best games to showcase the 3DS 3D effects. Curious there was no sequel.

      • I thought it was great on the Wii. The switch version was great. It is probably the most fun 4 player Mario platform game. It was pretty massive too.

        • Wii U. And look, I think the same complaints about 3D Land and World were the same about the 2D New Super Mario Bros series on Wii-Wii U, DS-3DS. They have not pushed enough new ideas in these games (especially 2D) in a long time.

The reason Wonder looks great is that so much of it doesn't look the same as before. It's almost like NSMB was a bunch of rehashes giving Nintendo the time to actually get creative again.

Tbh, I'm getting a bit old, and even I had a few issues with Odysseys fundamental game mechanic, but its not the same game as 64, Galaxy, etc. Mario games imo are best when they do not dwell in nostalgia.

  • Am I the only 1 thinking the title/cover is a bit cheesy - Still think Odyssey best Mario game on switch (no offense to Mario Kart fans, don't play that game). Nintendo probably seeing all these HD-2D games and wanna capitalise.

    • The cover for which game? Wonder?

      • Yes. Just that Wonder text.. Um power point gradients :\

        • Hmmm, I hadn't looked that hard at it! I guess it is reminiscent. But it does have nicer non-horizontal gradients, and some shine too. I think it sort of fits the weird trippy vibe they're going for. A game where Mario goes on a trip inspired by some 80s-90s art style headings doesn't feel inappropriate :P

    • +1

The art style is nothing like HD-2D.

      • HD-2D is an art style that blends beautifully rendered and dynamic 3D backgrounds with 2D pixel sprites, creating an interesting intersection between old and new-school graphics

It's close, the bg is mostly flat but the appearance is close to dynamic 3D. Yes in octopath u can move between the foreground and background in areas, more depth related than actual 3D

  • +4

Since when did everyone start writing dates month followed by day? I was taught that in Australia and the UK we always put day before the month?

    • +2

Not long I've been doing it since 04/06

  • I really don't like the look of this mario game.

  • Stupid question - don't flame me.

Is this pretty much the same as Mario Deluxe U just obviously different worlds etc?

    • +2

Not a stupid question. It's the "same" in the sense that it's the same genre and characters. It's a 2D, side-scrolling Mario game. The differences are in the way they've innovated on that genre. We can only sort of take guesses from the trailer, but the new power-ups, the new ways of interacting with the world and enemies, and the new ways in which the world morphs and changes as you play through it, make this look like a genuinely new experience, BUT still within the 2D side scrolling Mario platforming category.

Did that make sense? Happy to answer more questions. But also, if you haven't watched the trailer already, that'd be a good place to start :)
      Here's the trailer

    • Yep

  • Hopefully, 'Mario Deluxe' will be on sale soon with this one coming up in Oct

    • First rule of Nintendo/Mario games. They are evergreen titles and never drop the price.

They hold great collector value because of this.

  • +1

Super Mario RPG is now available for $79.95

    • Thanks for that, added to the description but not the title. I'd be very surprised if that doesn't come down to $69 either tonight or tomorrow. If it does, I'll add it to the title then.

  • Thanks OP, never played Super Mario RPG but have heard great things about it so glad it's being remade

    • Oh dang. I thought it was a new one

    • gotta say i have never been soo excited for some nintendo upcoming products. the new super mario bros and rpg game loooks epic :)

  • Anyone know which is true, Amazon claims release date to be 2nd October and JB-Hifi on 20th October.

    • Ah, good catch. Nintendo said October 20th. Unless Amazon knows something we don't - but I doubt it because October 20th is a Friday, the 2nd is a Monday, and Nintendo has historically released all their 1st party titles on Fridays. I'll update the description.

    • Huh, looking closer all of Amazon's dates appear to be wrong. Thanks for pointing it out!

  • +1

Gamesmen now preorders for Pikmin 1+2 and Detective Pikachu Returns $59.95

  • Looking to pre-order Mario Bros. Wonder. Are there any stores offering pre-order bonuses?
