Looks like it's a clearance after the new Datacolor Spyder X2 came out. However, it's still great price compared to many other Aussie Retailers which is still $400+

  • Been on the fence about getting one for a while now, anything to be aware of with this model vs others?

This one is much better as it gives you more advance settings. Plus, the deal breaker would be ambient light sensor which gives your more accurate colours during your calibration process. I've just bought one also as my X-Rite Studio caused too much trouble with the driver software for MacOS.

      • Check out DisplayCAL too. I use it with my old Huey Pro

  • having used both spyder and calibrite/xrite, both with displaycal, i'd stick to calibrite/xrite every time.

      Might i ask why?

    • My experience with the driver software on MacOS for Xrite is not so great. I love Xrite but the the driver issue drives me nut.

    • Would you mind sharing the reason why and whether you're using Mac or Windows as your main OS?
      Thanks.

can't seem to get spyder's calibrations to stay consistent. running it back-to-back, and/or side-by-side on identical panels would almost always result in different results, one of them having a noticeable green or red tint, etc.

only used it on windows, sorry, no comments on the mac side of things.

  • Does anyone know if a much older model is still plenty good for non-studio grade calibration?

Realistically I just want my 3 monitors to look the same.

    • Of course. I'm still using a Spyder 3 Express (with Elite software) with excellent results.

    • My motivation as well but just between laptop screen and my main monitor. My experience is with an old Xrite i1Display2 run with DisplayCal due to OEM driver incompatibility with Win11. I would say the color calibration makes an improvement, but it is not as close as I would have hoped. Considering upgrading but it's a lot of coin to scratch that itch especially with lingering concerns the Spyder might not be able to do a better job due to the fundamental differences between monitor technologies.
