That thing looks identical to the Breville

    • breville?

    • …as in it looks like a coffee machine?

or is there actually a breville one thats identical? Actually interested now.

      • Barista express

Breville uses a 53mm portafilter, mostly metal, but plastic elbows inside that will eventually crack. $10 easy fix if you know what you are a bit handy. Pressure gauge so you can see you got your grind and tamp right.

The Sunbeam has a proper 58mm portafilter (better SA:V ratio), more plastic bits, but similar. No pressure gauge. Has an oring that eventualy leaks. $0.50 fix if you know what you are doing. Cheaper.

  • Get the Breville Barista Express. This thing is plastic and cheap in comparison, and isn't as good overall

  • Damn I paid that much for the breville bambino a few months ago. Nice that there's a grinder at this price. Idk if it's any good but it looks alright for a beginner machine

      How much did you pay?

      • Still $398 at Harris Scarfe

Tbh I would happily take a Bambino over basically any other Sunbeam/Breville short of the dual boiler. They're great little machines, especially for a beginner.

Separate components are always better than all-in-one machines as well.

        What he said

  • sold out apparently

  • I have nespresso creatista machine. Why this machine is even cheaper? I always thought that the manual one should cost much more.

  • +1

this is basically a Barista max with a timer. i upgraded recently to the Breville Oracle lol I still have my old Barista max if i ever wanna manually do it or use it as a backup.

  • When I click 'add to bag' - "Sorry, this colour / size combination is not currently available."

    Sold out?

  • I've only had horrible experiences with sunbeam.

    • +1

I've had a sunbeam em6900 for like 6 years. Use it almost everyday, never had a problem.

      • I had 2 different sunbeams, one lasted 2 months, the other about 30 days. Maybe I got duds.

My Breville barista express is going on 7 years and we use it for on average 4 to 5 coffees a day.

Just a heads up these things are designed to be land fill after a year. Return and get the Breville is my advice.

Mine broke after a few months out of warranty and was extremely hard to fix.

I think you just deacribed every single product these days.

That being said, I got a Breville Barista Express and a Sunbeam Barista Max from hard rubbish.

Both were easy fixes, and if you replace the shitty plastic elbows and chinesium orings (both machines), descale and de coffee oil regularly, then they will both basically last forever.

As an off the shelf item, both are prebuilt for the landfill express.

      • +1

How's the coffee quality out of both machines?

Sunbeam get a bad wrap here, but my guess is it's on par with the barista express.

Breville is easier to dial in with the pressure gauge. Good for smaller shots

Sunbeam will give a better coffee extraction (as it has a larger SA:V with the 58mm basket)..but harder to dial in (will need to visually use a bottomless portafilter and taste buds and experiment).

Sunbeam do make a machine with a pressure gauge and 58mm basket (EM7000 off memory), and it is rated highly.

Quality wise, the Breville is slightly better finish. A bit of a Ford / Holden situation really. If price was equal, probably go the Breville. $100+ less, and you know how to make coffee, go the Sunbeam.

Reality, all machines are capable of making a better coffee than the average cafe. The Barista express or Em7000 are better for begginners. This Sunbeam is good for someone who already has their favourite bean dialed in and knows the routine. I rate them both highly for what they produce.

Basically a Holden Commodore/ Ford Falcon….nothing fancy on it, but will get you from A to B just as well as a Ferrari. Can replace it 20x for the price of one Ferrari. Easy enough to keep it going forever with a little tinkering.

      • My understanding is the Breville is actually easy to repair from what I've read on coffee snob forums.

Took like 20,000 screws to get into the sunbeam. It failed over a $6 part.

        • +1

Some truth to that.. both have have way too many screws. The Breville is a bit less tedious.

Good deal for an all in one, but like comment above, seperate is always better.

For one just grinder cleaning is much easier. I have the SGP and BB+. I can just flip the SGP to a container, brush sweep and a few knocks get almost everything out. Try doing that with an all in oneā€¦.

  • I suppose ozbargainers are collecting coffee machines as well!!

  • Do not buy this machine, They will only last for a 1 year or so and then it will either leak or grinder will stop working..i had 3 of these!!

    • My Barista Max is still going strong after 1.5 years, no issues at all.

    • Mine still going perfect for over 4 years making about 4-6 coffees a day, I guess you just unlucky.
