Reminder that the Galaxy Tab S9 will be announced soon.

    • +3

Why would they this discount otherwise

      • +3

        Eofy.

      • +5

Nah there is a surprising amount of people who impulse buy when they see a decent number of upvotes and don’t do research… only to come back later and go oh nooo I should have waited for the new model!

    • +1

Google Pixel Tab has just been released. Lower specs than the S8, but arguably the better home / family tablet.

      • Im curious. How is it better?

        • For me, besides the doubling as an 11" Google Home Hub (the Hub Max is 10") and always being charged and on-hand, the killer feature is the multi-user TouchID functionality that currently has no equivalent on the market (Apple or Android).

It's not cheap in Australia though and I won't be getting one as my Galaxy Z Fold 4 already doubles as a tablet.

  • These prices are so good, I am jealous. I paid more a year ago. I want to buy another one!

Great deal!! Especially the tab s8+ 5g.

    • The 5g version is an extra $750, not so much of a deal IMO.

    • +3

$1k price for a tablet is a so good price? What has the world become into…

      • +2

Check groceries price before make this comments please 😜

I am honestly so impressed with tab s8+ . Regular software updates. Really good tablet….. effortless productivity and entertainment.

      • +7

        Yeh, but ipad is apple….
Each to their own, i just dont want to move to that ecosystem just yet.

      • +10

        Dex is on another level

        • Where's the dex equivalent on iPad? Ever tried using an ipad with a mouse and keyboard? It is very restrictive and frustrating compared to a proper desktop-like interface. Also, good luck getting a current generation iPad Pro with 120Hz for $692.

          • -1

@hjcoggan: yes because ipads support mouse and keyboards. But you should never treat a tablet as a PC because its NOT a PC. The software for iPad OS is build for tablet use if you want to operate a PC buy a laptop.

            • @kungfuman: Yeah lol I know it supports kb and m, but its just not very good. Still missing a lot of shortcuts from MacOS and the like. Also not a fan of the cursor, can't do any meaningful customisation of that.

    • The Tab S8+ is awesome, I've had it for a few months now. Good sound, image quality, speed etc, but I find the typing experience very bad. It misses key presses all the time.

I've set the toggle for screen sensitivity to "on" but it hasn't helped. Any tips?

bought the s8+ last month. highly recommend for this price. great tablet.

    • +2

Is it really worth the $250 more compared to the S8?

      • +4

For me yes. It has a different display - LCD vs Amoled.

    • Say Whaaatt??

  • Does it handle dex properly? My s6 keeps shutting down apps in the background and is very slow..

    • +5

I have the S8+ since last year and have had no problems switching to and from Dex.

  • do these s8 replace laptop? are they like surface pro?

    • samsung used to make windows tablets a long time ago about 10 years or so, then they just stuck with android. but yes its just an android tablet. Your better off getting a surface pro at least there usable.

    • +5

In a word no, think more like a chromebook.

    • +1

No, Android tablets aren't there yet in terms of being a laptop replacement. Stick with the Surface Pro if that's what you're after.

I have the S8 and it's just for streaming, playing games and for web browsing. I will use stuff like Google Docs and Sheets if I have to.

      • Thanks. Wouldnt a7 or a8 help you with that as well?

        • Yeah I had the A7, but gave it to one of my parents because they wanted a tablet. I upgraded to the S8 because I had a voucher through work.

      • Wouldn't a Lenovo Duet be a better and much more cost-effective solution for your use case (unless you're playing really demanding games)?

        • that is garbage

          • @paloverde88: Duet 3 has an 11" LCD. Duet 5 has a 13" OLED display. I sold my S7 Tab with the keyboard cover last year, replaced it with the Duet 5 and it's getting a lot more use.

            • @elektron: I tried a Duet 5 for a bit, but the screen resolution just didn't feel good enough for me. Feature-wise it's pretty good for the price though.

            • +1

@elektron: the samsung S8+ has a more pleasant screen to look at
samsung amoled is much more vibrant

    • +2

I have an S8+ and a Surface Pro 8, and my Surface Pro have honestly been gathering dust since I got the S8+.

      • +2

Is the battery substantially better on the S8+? Battery life has kept me away from Windows tablets (last I owned was Surface Pro 3 and it was an overheating mess).

        • +1

Waayy better. This is the reason why I always reach for my S8+ too as my Surface Pro 8 only last about 4 hours of use in the office, so I basically have it plugged in when it's on my desk so I don't run out of battery in meetings.

  • How is S pen handwriting experience on S8?

    • For handwriting I think it works fine. But if you're looking to get one for drawing or anything creative I'd stick with an iPad and Apple Pencil.

      • +8

Why? I've seen artists create absolute masterpieces with Galaxy Tabs, not to mention that it comes with the pencil, unlike the iPad.

        • Probably the apps? There are more apps available, and because there are more artists who use Apple products, that in itself is a boon (better accessories, more apps etc).

That said, if there is a specific app you use, then I feel like that might not be too much of an issue? When I got S7 tablet, I think Clip Studio became available which apparently is good (not an artist myself)?

      • It's for hand notetaking. I need to get something, decent e ink tables like Kindle Scribe etc you pay around $600, so I thought for a similar price get S8.
Or S6 lite for under $400.

        • +2

One benefit to getting a Wacom-compatible tablet like the S8 is you can use nicer pens like the Lamy EMR.

  • +2

Had the S8+ myself. Absolutely loved it for what I used it for, however I stopped using it as often (and eventually sold it) as I preferred my Surface Pro 3 due to it having a keyboard. I think their S8 line up of tablets are a surprising strong point for Samsung, the display is amazing, and it is a very capable machine. My recommendation is to buy a keyboard cover if going for the plus model, but then again everyone's needs are different and you may not care.

    • +3

I agree to your recommendation. I purchased the Samsung Keyboard Cover together with my Tablet, and I now prefer this over my Surface Pro 8.

      • I have the keyboard cover too. For the cost ($250), I was disappointed as it is not illuminated and is a little weighty too. I now use a Logitech MX Keys connected via Bluetooth most of the time.

        • I don't mind it not being illuminated, and I don't mind the weight either so it really depend on how you use it. In saying that, I used to hate the spacebar as it was fidgetty at first.

  • Hate how then 256GB 5G version is not on sale.. argh..

  • +4

Browsing this on my trusty Tab S4 that was bundled with an optus plan sorta wishing it would die so i can justify an upgrade but damn thing has been flawless and does everything I need;(

    • +5

Still rocking on my 9.7 inch Tab S2, all I do is stream shows, watch youtube and read the occasional ebook, honestly have a hard time justifying upgrading until it dies as well.

      • +1

Still waiting for my Tab S 10.5 to die. It still holds nearly 3 hours of screen on time (original battery) and the screen is still beautifully AMOLED. Resolution is 2k… and stereo speakers.

THis is from what, 2012? Ahead of its time.

  • +4

Don't even bother with the a7 lite. Shouldn't even be listed as a deal. The thing is terrible

    • +1

second this - not even worth recycling

    • +1

What's so bad about it? Just after a very basic portable tablet for basic tasks, is there a better alternative?

    • +2

My parents use it. It's fine as a YouTube player and web browser (what they use it for). I've even watched movies on it - it is absolutely fine.

No it's not an iPad, but it's $150. I got mine (parents) for abouot $250 last December.

    • Fully agree, out of the box on a fresh install and you have to wait for it to load even setting menus, let alone do anything else. My S6 with running apps in the background feels like a jet in comparison - I'd suggest looking for an older, used S model before thinking of the A7 as a bargain.

    • Would it work well for YouTube, other streaming platforms and browsing ozbargain? I'm looking for a small tablet, alternative is an ipad mini but I don't want to spend that much, I want something I can take anywhere and not be overly worried about.

  • +2

The regular tab s8 should have a AMOLED screen , it creams my corn that it doesn't

    • +3

They switched back to AMOLED in the S9. That'll probably cost at least $1.1k though, which is what the S8 cost at launch.

    • Haven't even noticed. Only haveca S21 Ultra to compare though lol.

    • I agree. I got myself a slightly used as new Tab S6 LTE model instead for $325

  • prices for s8+ which is the crown jewel has gone back to normal $1118 for wifi and $1699 for 5G

    • :(

  • +1

Paid $799 last year in July, good savings i guess.

  • I love the regular s8 tab. The physical finger print sensor was the main reason - it is flawless!

  • Good price, I picked up a second hand S7 for $500 in January 2023. The S8 at the time was $889 from memory with Goodguuys commercial. 👌

  • With A7, is it possible to buy pen? How much is it? Hopefully there are after market ones that are good price

    • +1

No A series don't work with S Pen, they don't have the technology. Only the S series does.

    • +1

Don't bother getting generic capactive pens that you can find online. You can't get any precision with them (e.g. for writing) as they just look like a finger to the device. The tablet needs proper digitizer hardware to support proper pens which the A series doesn't have.

  • +1

Those of you wanting to buy s8 wifi 128gb it's $750 at TGG Taylor lake. It says warehouse clearance silver colour
