The red dot (sensor) fades and burns eventually after some months of regular cooking away. I also realised that they say in the fine print of the description to cook only with medium heat. I don’t understand it because if I want to cook a steak I will go on full power. That is the purpose of the pan isn’t it? I got this for free via a product test, but have to say it is only slightly beating the $15 Coles pan.
You can't use PTFE coated pans on high heat, the PTFE will melt.
You absolutely shouldn't use them to cook steak. Use stainless steel, the steak releases once it's ready and you are left with a nice fond to make a sauce.
Or you can go down the route of getting carbon steel pans and build up a seasoning that becomes non-stick, that way no PTFE leeches into anything once it gets damaged or burnt off.
If you want to sear steaks, you need to use cast iron skillets. You'll destroy a non-stick pan.
I wonder why Bing Lee doesn't ship to SA - anyone know?
