Copied and pasted from the previous post:

This was always going to be a problem, but the list of eligibility and the title of 'first responders' is a little misaligned:
    - Border Force and Immigration?
    - Corrective Services?
I don't have a problem with the initiative, except the card / discounts should be free (for specific volunteers in particular) and not a fee-paying program to participate in, regardless of your role within those organisations.

    Blue Light Card Membership

Is this to get into the discos for free?

    • It's actually for identifying scrubbed bodily fluids in your room

Aged care counts, interesting, I shall forward to my friend. I do not in any way shape or form consider her a first responder but, oh well.

    • Who's the first one there when your nan falls over in the nursing home?

      • +4

Depends if she's holding a knife or not

  • The merchants participating don't seem overly great :/

funny how supermarket workers were basically one of the front line workers when covid was at its peak and they are not included in stuff like this.

    Retired ES too. Noice.

High paid pen pushers qualify, but services that are volunteer and most definitely are first responders aren't listed.

    • It says "Fire Services" and also "State Emergency Services". Both of those include volunteers in the state I'm from.

VRA in NSW is the Volunteer Rescue Association, primary road crash rescue with 30 units across the state. Our unit is also primary vertical rescue. On call 365 days a year, poor funding, no pay and it's a tough gig both emotionally and the hours you put in. https://www.facebook.com/VRARescueNSW/

I joined SES in 97 as a member of both organizations, SES are well recognized but most people don't even know what VRA is unfortunately.

Sounds like a "State Emergency Service" to me. Have you asked them if you're eligible?

  • Thanks! Every bit helps Retired ES responder! :)

I just signed up, and this is on the success page:

Download the Blue Light Card app to get discounts on the go at thousands of high street shops, restaurants, and cinemas across the UK.

I had to double-check the URL to make sure it was a .au site (it still was)…
