  Transit times from melb via sydney are quite reasonable.. 2/5 hours… 2 return ticks from melb.. $1400.. carry on.. beautiful place to visit.. but hmmm jetstar not sure i trust em internationality.

Just flew J* to Fiji. Got to say was pleasantly surprised. Depart SYD within 15 mins of schedule. Departed Nadi on time for return. Got our preselected snacks. QF points and SCs credited within a few days. The crew were friendly. The A320 was clean and fine for 3.5 hrs flying. What I really like vs QF B737, when flying in economy the J* A320 has the front toilet available. What a difference it appears to make to toilet line ups. Base on that I would give them another go. What worries me is when something goes wrong if you are abandoned.

Other I can add to mix is Tahiti, Bahamas, Caribbean, Fiji to compare?

Looks like $250/night will be for a decent place to stay.

  I haven't been to Maldives but Rarotonga is very nice but a short flight to Aitutaki is the business. I chose it for my 50th and stayed at the Aitutaki Private Island Lagoon Resort. It's excellent. A women staying there who was on her second trip mentioned she thought the Pacific Resort was better but $$$$$
  Catriona Rowntree chose Aitutaki as her honeymoon destination and she's seen some places, so that was good enough for me.
