been $200 cheaper recently, I got the 65" for $1076 and loving it!

    • nice. I got my 55" for $849 as my living room is quite small.

      • ^ this!

I need this for the bedroom but they must have sold out in that size a couple of sales ago. Anyone care to suggest pick of the bunch on sale in either a 50” or 55” TV?

    • +1 same

    • same, proud owner of 65" here

    • I got the 75in about a month ago only just set it up yesterday and I’m impressed what I see so far not owned a 4K before so can’t compare.
I not done any settling tweaks or not sure if I will incase I mess it up.
But to be honest I purchased the Samsung bu8000 65 inch first for around the $900 mark and looked nice in store when I seen but not really seeing it the same at home.
Obviously the Samsung was going to be the only tv I get then I got the tcl same time.
Tcl main lounge and Samsung in bedroom but I’m curious does Samsung cover their tvs or this range bu8000 with clear film as mine never had any.
It had white strips down side stuck on actual screen and thin film along edges but not fully protected with film just the white covering you get in the box with polystyrene.
Items remote evey unopened inside box the box was strapped but not sticky sealed when I cut straps the flaps opened up.
The Samsung is first tv ever I had not fully covered screen.

To be honest I wished I had grabbed the tcl 65 in of the same model for the bedroom as was not much more back then.

  • If only there was stock of this left in Sydney 😢. Means I still can't decide between the new 845C in 65 and the Samsung QN90B in 65 at the same price. Either way wife's going to kill me 😂

Go for Samsung QN90B. TCL’s UI and OS are a bit patchy and frustrating

      • +1

Samsung is from online and they are notoriously bad for service and delivery.

I am only doing bricks and mortar for big purchases from now on.

      • +1

but TCL just using Google TV OS/UI

        is samsung still using Tizen?
isn't Tizen app store closed down.

Seems like nowadays it is mainly Google TV OS on most of the other TV brands
        or LG webOS

      • -1

90b is still brighter as it has 900nits whilst c845 has 800nits.

        • I will also go for Samsung because of the brand, in case anything wrong.

          • @superforever: There's a comment above saying the opposite about Samsung. Have you dealt with Samsung TV customer service?

            • +1

@pizzaguy: Yes I have but long time ago, they came to replace the 60" screen for free a month over warranty not sure now but did online chat with them and they did help over the chat.

Overall reliability rate I think Samsung still better but the TCL still a good TV.

        • +1

          C835?

          C845 peaks at 2000 nits .

        • its actually 2000 nits…. lol tcl use a different value for some reason. but using the same measurements as other brands its actually 2000 nits. the screen is super bright. my tcl 835 was apparently 700 nits or something like that going by tcl measurements. in reality its actually around 1500 nits. its a fair bit brighter than my hisense 75Q8 which was 1000 nits

        • +1

You got me Rayner. Stop spending money

    • I’ve been trying to find a 65” QN90B but there doesn’t appear to be stock anywhere being last years model? Appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.

If you reach out to the Samsung rewards loyalty program email address: [email protected] providing a serial number of a Samsung product you own they will call or email you with a 50% off code for their store. I pulled the trigger and got the 65" QN90B delivered for $1650. Can't complain at all!

        • Great price, thanks mate.

        • Thanks for tip. Sent an email last night with my current TV serial number and got a phone call this morning and they gave me a code to purchase the TV. Great price!

        • Can you use it on any TV on the store?

  • -7

Made in China? I guess they all are these days

    • -2

Whilst it's an excellent TV, dont go comparing it with the Koreans, it doesn't hold a candle to it. Riddled with small infuriating bugs, just like Hisense. As the saying goes, you can't polish a turd.

      • what is bugs?

        • +2

          What are bugs?

A software bug is an error, flaw or fault in the design, development, or operation of computer software that causes it to produce an incorrect or unexpected result, or to behave in unintended ways. The process of finding and correcting bugs is termed "debugging" and often uses formal techniques or tools to pinpoint bugs. Since the 1950s, some computer systems have been designed to deter, detect or auto-correct various computer bugs during operations.

          https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_bug

        • Software glitches.

          • @[Deactivated]: If just software we can just replace it with Google Chromecast TV, a bit worry about hardware components

            • @superforever: Its not that simple. An external device doesnt fix these problems.

          • -1

@[Deactivated]: meant what are the bugs you noticed.

            • @pinkybrain: Motion interpolation, local dimming, picture flickering via HDMI, DV clipping, colour banding suppression, coil whine, the list goes on.

              • @[Deactivated]: so did you return the C835 or still using it?
what size TV, how much paid and bought from which store??

any of this issues can be fixed via software update and how often TCL update their TVs?

                • @pinkybrain: I have never owned a TCL but I used to work in consumer electronics and know all their unique problem's inside out.

                  • -1

                    @[Deactivated]:

I used to work in consumer electronics

did you sell TVs or what job?

Would be good if someone who owns this TV can report any issues encountered.
Only one I read was something about the motion blur.

                    • @pinkybrain: Yep, I was an in-store rep for Hisense.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Ao so do you know if this model suffers from: "Motion interpolation, local dimming, picture flickering via HDMI, DV clipping, colour banding suppression, coil whine, the list goes on."?

You made it sound like if it was all in this very TV before…

                    • @pizzaguy: It does, same with the C835. Hisense are no different, "yeah, yeah, we fixed it this year". No you didnt. I could care less if people dont wanna read this. As I said, great TV otherwise. People like convincing themselves into thinking "Why would I purchase a more expensive TV?". That's exactly how the manufacturer wants you to think.

                      • @[Deactivated]: I'm confused. So is it a great TV OR does it have poor: local dimming, colour, interpolation and coil whine on the top?

How is it great if you're saying it's crap.

                        • +1

@pizzaguy: I'm saying its half-assed. Not sure how else I can possibly explain myself? A normal person may not notice these issues.

                          • @[Deactivated]: I'm more of a person who pays attention to such things, so it sounds like it's not a good TV for me.

                            • +1

@pizzaguy: Put it this way, the only good thing about TCL is their panels. Their software lets down their hardware. Again, I'm not here to shit on Chinese TV's, I just want people to know what they're in for. Don't be fooled by what's on paper. Hisense have been known to lie about their specs.

                      • -1

@[Deactivated]: Hisense and TCL are completely different. One stooges all customers in Australia with worse models than what gets sold overseas. TCL manufactures all high end LCD panels for Sony and Samsung now

                        • @cille745: I've never heard of such news, do you have a source for that?

                          • @[Deactivated]: Hisense use to be OK many years ago, until the last few years, even the model number the same but we are not receiving the same model as US.

  • is it worth going from 65" to 75"?

    • +4

yes i went from 65-75-77 and its a much better experience on the bigger screens, also depends how far away your sitting

    • Only if you can sit far enough away from it.

Lots of people don't understand perceived resolution depends on how far away from the screen you sit.

4K at 75 inch is worse quality than 4K at 65 inch from the same sitting distance, etc.

  • +1

What is it like dealing with TCL over warranty issues? Has anyone had any experience with their CS?

    • yeah its pretty average tbh i ended up returning mine to jbhifi as tcl took so long to reply.

      • OK. Sounds like it's better to deal with the retailer in that case

        • +4

Tcl are the absolute worst company to deal with.

They would ask for the same information across 8 emails.
And once they finally actually read my replies telling them its already been sent multiple times….they asked me the same troubleshooting steps from the first email!

Jb hifi usually will make you go through tcl for an “in home assessment” before they issue a refund.
I told jb what was going on with tcl and they were more than happy to proceed with a refund and picked up the tv from my house.

If it wasnt for jb, id be stuck with tcl for a faulty tv not even a week old…

Ill never own a tcl after this experience

          • @amityaaron: what TCL did you buy and how much paid?

What TV replacement you bought now and how much paid?

Also read of Samsung store warranty being crap as well.
The person said Samsung just transfer their warranty claim around different departments.

            • @pinkybrain: I had this exact tv, for roughly the same price (was only about a month ago).

Didnt end up buying a replacement.
              Was an impulse purchase haha.
Just put the old tv back and bought an apple tv.

Iv had relatives with good experience with samsung warranty.
I know everyone has good/bad experiences so its really hard to judge.

But after witnessing first hand how bad tcl is, ill never own one of their tvs again.

              • @amityaaron: what was the problems you got with this TCL C835 75"?
what is your old TV model and size?

                • @pinkybrain: Google tv constant crashing.
Picture was blocky would look like “slow motion” in moving scenes (scenes that werent even very fast as well).
I tried adjusting all the picture settings to ones that were recommended on youtube…no change.

Also, you cant control sonos playbar via the tv remote even though its an IR receiver and meant to be compatible…

Old tv is a 65inch curved samsung, no idea what model.

    • Yes, I had the backlight die on my 65P4US a few years ago. Was a few years ago now but from memory they had a technician out to confirm the dead backlight within the week, and then probably another week for them to send a replacement.

Can anyone share any thoughts about this TV vs Samsung 85” CU8000 Crystal UHD 4K? I can get that for about $2,000 using loyalty voucher.

  • Looks like it’s only delivering to QLD though 😞

  • Are any of the free to air channels in 4K ?

    • No. 720p I still think as high as they go.

      • 1080i

        • Arguably worse than 720p.

  • No more following page is up: Oops! We can't find the page you're looking for.

  • Looks like thats it - out of stock! They still have 20% off other models so hopefully somebody finds another bargain.

  • Got the Sony 75 X90K XR. Looked at this but the power consumption is 3 times the Sony. I know this is Mini LED and the Sony FALD. Paid $2050 after Cashrewards last week.
