Malwarebytes Pro Lifetime License $14.97 for 1, $13.47ea for 2, $11.97ea for 3 - Ends Wednesday

90

Hey,

Just saw that BitsDuJour are offering reduced ($24.95 normally) price for Malwarebytes Pro which is a terrific addition to your AV software.

The license can cover a single PC but according to the comments you can install on more than 1 OS (so VMs, dual boots etc. OK).

Not sure how of even if licenses can be transferred between machines.

I jumped the gun and ordered 3 for $35.91.
Tip: if you have 28 degrees, choose to be billed in USD which should come down to $34.6289 according to xe.com - a saving of $1.28!!! Love OZB lol

Some of the benefits of the Pro version vs. Free:
While the free version includes all of the powerful anti-malware heuristics and algorithms, a registered license unlocks several important features, specifically: real-time protection, scheduled scanning, and scheduled updating.

  • Pro version has real time shields like an AV suite. It's going to kill system resources. Free version is more than enough.

    • Free version is fine as long as you remember to run it… which I almost never do.

Do you have any (reliable) sources saying that it will kill system resources?

"We recommend Malwarebytes Pro for all users as a supplement to their regular antivirus protection."

Thanks for reminding me to run Malwarebytes! :P

    • Of course it would use more resources, but many desktops should these days should easily be able to handle it.

      • Sure, but if you also run AV, Internet security, and a bunch of other apps in the background which also consume resources, it adds up.

There's a difference between your system "handling it" and making it "unnoticeable".

You have to decide for yourself if the trade off is worth it. I would suggest downloading the trial version first and if the performance is acceptable, then you buy it.

  • And for those interested I received response from their support (in less than an hour!) in regards to switching licenses:

Hello and welcome to the Malwarebytes consumer helpdesk. Thank you for choosing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as your malware security solution. My name is Bob Guryan and I'll be assisting you today.

Please see our Knowledge Base article for instructions on how to transfer the license from one computer to another.
    http://helpdesk.malwarebytes.org/entries/21436836-how-do-i-t…

To transfer Malwarebytes consumer license from one system to another please do as follows:
Part 1: Please run this clean up tool on the old machine (if possible) and allow a reboot when prompted.
    http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam_clean

Then install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware onto the new machine via the link below, at no cost of course.

Part 2: Install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware via the link below (downloads do not differ, activation with your ID and Key enables the PRO features)
    http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam

Part 3: Once the program is installed, activate the license with the ID and Key.
There should be a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware icon on the desktop, double-click that to open program. If there is no icon, you can go to:
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware<<<<this folder… and double click the mbam icon in that folder

Once open, there will be a series of tabs, labeled in order:
    Scanner | Protection | Update | Quarantine | Logs | Ignore list | Settings | More Tools | About

Once open, click any 'Activate' button and you will get a new dialog box labeled 'Activate Product'. Insert the ID in the first section and the Key into the next section, then click the 'Activate' button.

Please make sure you are COPYING and PASTING the license key directly from the confirmation email into the proper fields. Please also make sure you are only including the letters and numbers and not the words ID or Key. Finally, make sure you are not including additional spaces before or after the ID and Key.

If done correctly you should get it registered.

Part 4: If you need your key & ID or your confirmation email, this information can only be obtained by our eCommerce partner, Cleverbridge. The contact information is available at: http://www.cleverbridge.com/342/?scope=cuseco

Please provide the following to them so they can retrieve the information, and only ask for a copy of your confirmation email, do not mention any other issues:

    Date of purchase
    Name used for purchase
    Address used(if applicable)

Do you have any (reliable) sources saying that it will kill system resources?

Does first hand experience count? After a day I immediately turned off real time protection. All real time protection software uses up resources and slows things down when you do things.

Just run it once a week.

    • Does first hand experience count?

      Yeah sure, good to know.

ive been using pro for ages with no noticable issues , didnt pay for it though :0

    • Yes i have also noticed plenty of 'free sites' that allow full trials :)

  • the full version gets in the way - i only use the full version for the auto DAT updates & turn of the Real time protection.

  • I've used Malwarebytes for years, it is great for removing Malware.

But its one of many tools I used.
