    $50 — $10 signup bonus, cheers

    • -2

      How?

      • +1

He literally mentions "$10 signup bonus"

        $60-$10 = $50! lol!

  • +5

No blades? What is this voodoo! Soon you snake oilest will be passing off pictures in a box.

    • +1

      Mechanical Blade turk

    • There's blades in the base. They could have put an air compressor in there to be truly bladeless I suppose. For all I know air compressors don't use blades.

      • Well there is the bit about forcing air molecules together to “compress it”. The fans are in the compressor. But that would be overbuilding this. The fans are just hidden.

        • Could use pistons lol.

  • It's saying No Delivery option?

    • Melbourne metro still showing available for delivery

  • It's on clearance because no blades is purely aesthetics and this thing looks like s**t.

    • +5

Explain purely aesthetics. If it does the job and worth a conversation, given its price range why not? I don't think it looks too bad.

      • +3

Fans with blades are more effective and a fraction of the price. Oh sorry forgot about the 'choppy air'.

        • At $60? Or you talking RRP

          • -3

@CptnObvious: RRP and also I'm more referring to the Dyson which is pretty, sure, but more form over function IMO.

            • @Cheaplikethebird: Getting downed for no reason, but you are 100% right, this is form over function, no dobt is alot noisier (with similar airflow) compared to a good quality Dc fan for the same price.

The only reason I could see to buy one would be is if you had kids or pets.

              • @albiilive: I think people are misinterpreting my comment as saying that my gripe as a whole is with Dyson and not the product in this post but I was just referring to my "fans with blades are more effective and a fraction of the price" comment.

      • +3

I've owned about 5 generic "bladeless fans" over the years. I've found Vornado-style "air movers" to be far more effective and good ones are also capable of being extremely quiet. We ditched our bladeless fans.

Given the choice between a "bladeless fan" and a normal fan, I'd probably still go for the bladeless (not Dyson). Though I'd much prefer whatever option had more than just 3 speeds.

        • I concur, especially when they stand behind their product with a 5 year warranty.

          • -1

@PvsNP: To be fair, I have never had a household fan stop working.

            • @rumblytangara: I have. Purchased some 30cm desk fans when Masters was going out of business, and two of them lasted less than a year. Masters had long gone by then and couldn't be arsed to chase it up anywhere else. They were really cheap anyway.

            • @rumblytangara: I had one, it was a $12 one or whatever the price was about 15 years ago or more. Whenever they still didn't need insulation on the power plugs (like on the active and neutral pins). I think it was the capacitor. Regardless all I had to do was spin it manually to get it started and it still kept working lol

      • Safer for children
      • Easier to clean
      • Better for allergies

      Purely aesthetics?

      • +4

Fair points. Safer though? Regular fans have big old cages on them and the blades are plastic, I used to put my hand in them on full speed for lolz when I was a kid. They are an absolute bastard to clean though I'll give you that.

        • +12

Agree with this, they're really not dangerous. And you can't sing into them and make robot voices or take the frame off and draw spinning pictures on the blades so that's a loss..

          • @Helenn:

And you can't sing into them and make robot voices

            "LUUUUUUUKE I AM YOUR FAAAATHERRRRRRRRRR"

      • How are they better for allergies? Is it the lack of the dust accumulation on the blades?

        • +3

Some of them (e.g. the Dyson) have HEPA filters built into the base. Which the marketing label convinces people that it works to clean the air.

Thing is though, it's a crap idea. Most the air going through the circular 'blade' doesn't pass through the filter. By Dyson's own marketing claims about how amazing their tech is, only 6% of the air moved goes through the real fan blades (and hence the HEPA filter) in the base of the unit. It's just a poorly engineered way to clean air- a hammer looking for a nail.

I had a fan with a HEPA unit. I never even bothered to install it and tossed the filter. If I want cleaned air, I turn on a proper air purifier.

          • @rumblytangara: No, they are better for allergies due to no dust accumulating on blades, and also easier to clean.

            • +8

@rekke: You do realise that Dysons have fan blades, right? They are hidden in the base of the unit. And are hard to access to clean properly. Dust still accumulates on those fan blades, and also inside the circular airflow part of the fan (where it is impossible to clean).

      • I am reminded of that meme that shows a picture of what Hollywood air conditioning vents look like with someone crawling in them, and a picture of what these vents actually look like. Ewww.
Dust plains, dust forests and dust mountains, dust stalactites and stalagmites, and little dust bunnies that are probably cockroaches or worse moving under the dust like moles.

        A whole ecosystem.

    • +3

I am sorry but you are clearly misinformed.

Pretty sure people get it for safety, noise and arguably energy efficiency. This fan is on clearance because it is weak.

      • Is this a good deal or should I wait for other brands to go on special?

        • Wait

          • @9hundred: Any examples of quiet fans I should wait for? thanks

            • +1

@xdigger: Normal ones, or you could get one of those extra fancy delongi ones.

            • +1

@xdigger: I've got some Xiaomi fans which have 6 speed settings and run pretty quietly. But pretty much most standard fans (i.e. full size blades) tend to be pretty quiet unless run at full blast.

The Dyson style fans tend to be loud because they use very small fan blades that have to run extra fast. Thin power style fans tend to be loud because they use blower/squirrel cage fans which are inherently loud. The problem with these two styles of fan is that when they are loud, the noise is high pitched due to the small fan blades, and higher frequency noise tends to be harder to ignore.

  • +7

    I have it, quite loud

    • +2

Great feature to remind you that it is still on before you leave the room.

  • +6

From the reviews I read, the main problem/complaint with this is the airflow, or the lack of it even on the max fan setting and that's the whole purpose of a fan.

    • +2

that's kind of a problem with bladeless fans. They are actually rubbish with some cheap $10 pedestal fan completely destroying some fancy dyson $1,000 rubbish for airflow.

  • -1

You can probably get a Dyson Tower Fan for around $100 off Facebook Marketplace if you want a bladeless fan tbh, got the two I use for $100 each.

  • +3

    Get the Kmart version.
Not as nice looking, but works better (stronger air flow, oscillate on carpet fine, but noisier)

This one broke (within a couple of months) cause its base design, bad for carpet rooms.
Air flow as mentioned is fairly low, its speed 3 is about the same as speed 1 on the kmart version.

    • Note to those that are thinking of getting the Kmart version, they're noisy as heck.

  • I would rather get a "normal" fan.

    • -3

The word 'normal' can sometimes be exclusionary and not aligned with the principles of tolerance. The concept of normalcy suggests that there is a standard or ideal that every fan should conform to, often disregarding the diverse designs and features of fans across the fan market.

      • Haha yeah well I guess in these times with all the self itentity bullcrap, a fan can identify as bladless even though it has blades in the bottom to move air.

      • +1

I’m sorry you’re being downvoted for a well crafted joke

  • +4

    Not a fan

    • It identifies itself as a fan though…

  • +3

I had one of these (later model, same brand and size obviously), it was kinda loud and wasn't powerful. If you don't specifically need bladeless then use the $60 and put it towards a different tower fan.

I wouldn't pay $60 for this, it's likely on clearance because it's shit.

  • Zero stock in Sydney nearest place is tuggerah

  • +4

for those who don't know, this 'bladeless' fan has just a tiny loud bladed fan on the inside, required cleaning aswell.
goodbye, im going to go drive in my 'motorless' car (motor is hidden on the inside)

    • Judging from some of the other posts here, this tongue in cheek clarification is… sadly necessary.

  • Is this just a fan or is this a heater too? Also how do owners of this fan rate this fan experience?

    • It's not a heater, just a normal fan with the blades hidden.

  • Stock available in

    Dyson knock off

  • no delivery click collect only

    • Yep. Missed out. No stock in my area too

  • For nostalgic sake I'll just get a pedestal fan to speak robotic ally into

  • I dislike pedestal fans so have 6 of these at home bought 2 years ago. Work well and look great. Will buy again.
