Flights from $0 (Plus $171 Taxes) One Way to Vietnam from Sydney and Melbourne @ Vietjet

670
SUMMER77

Use code SUMMER77 for 77% off fares with VietJet. I was surprised and dubious, but I tried SYD to SGN on March 4th, 2024 and it came up immediately as $11.75! AUD! Then I got to the taxes and yeah it jumps up, but considering it's mostly taxes that's fairly impressive for a price.

So, basically, act fast, I don't have all the details and can't check return dates as it's fairly late in the day and 77 might mean it's only valid if you book on 7/7, but I'm not sure eg on timezones.

**EDIT: Have found cheaper after someone on our facebook page commented. Eg right now on 10 Oct 2023, it's $0 plus booking. Evidence: https://imgur.com/a/4itk9Ju **

Pretty standard for vietjet. Jetstar had $169 last weekend. Still cheap though!

    • I’ll say this, I have had a quick look on their website a while ago and it was still $2 base fare + taxes. This was a few months ago.

  • So what’s the best return fare you found OP?

    • +6

can see the same price returning too. Some awesome connections from there too. Alas I have a newborn due this week, so I ain't going anywhere :P

      • Adding taxes makes it close to regular prices. All up cheapest I found was $335 return SYD - SGN

      • +4

        Congrats on the newborn beatthatflight

  • Where are we supposed to enter the code? In the payment page it asks for Password and PIN when voucher is selected

    • +2

very front page. Has From, To, Dates, Passengers and Promotion Code. Enter it in there before searching.

  • Terms:

Only for today and looks like it's been ozbargained.

    • Rubbish T&Cs, it stated “All vietnam domestic and international routes” but only some routes are applicable.

  • +2

damn, no flights from Perth :(

  • -4

Lol tax is how much the flight normally costs, where's the special.

  • -6

taxes are hundreds of dollars so its a bit of scam advertising

    • +7

Lol have you ever purchase an international flight ticket before?

      • -6

no one says $0 plus taxes lol

its just $x one way or $y rtn. geez

        • +3

For international flights taxes are collected for a range of reasons, and they are not payable to the airlines, but payable to the airports/governments of the destination etc
I guarantee you will never get a $0 international flight deal, as the airline would have to foot the bill for the taxes on top of whatever promotion they may be running

They fly the old AirAsia A320’s including the reclining business class seat. I flew them a couple of times and felt the seat was great for the price you pay. I would absolutely avoid economy if you’re taller than 5’8 or if you are overweight.

    • +5

      thats most people in Australia

    • Skyboss seats are ok but not sure if that's classified economy or not.

    • +1

      A330’s*

      • Yeah I just checked. Flew back from HCMC last week and it was an a330.

      • Yep cheers for the correction

experts - when is the best time to travel to Ho Chi Minh?

Really want to go to Hanoi because more traditional & culture but no direct flights and extra hours really adds up for a short 1 wk trip :(

    • From Sep to Jan is the perfect, if you want to be anal then Nov-Jan is good, Sep and Oct may be at tail end of the rainy season but should not matter much.

      • mid-winter Jan was 26C too hot for me in Saigon/HCMC

Ha Noi on the other hand was perfect for me in December with a light jumper - maybe 20C days, maybe 11C nights but mild

  • PS. when you get to the payment page you get hit with a +$28 "utility fee"

All up I got $388 for SYD - SGN + a meal each way
Also dont forget to upgrade your carry on with a free +2kg during checkout

    • -2

Try Visa card, it doesn't have any fee. That fee is per passenger which should be reported to ACC for being excessive.

  • +1

Just checked for Mel, first two week of Oct you can get returns for $325 without meal or baggage. Would expect $400 all up with very light baggage allowance.

  • Could someone please tell me the difference between deluxe and luxury seats

  • -5

This site is now a joke!

  • @bohn
You love a one way deal

    • Hah don't get me started

  • $300 return is still pretty good

  • Is this for Vietnam only? I tried Malaysia and Korea flights and couldn’t find any discounts

  • +2

I’ve booked flights for melb - hcmc for $287 returned - 7kg carry on, no meals

Some tips. If you click on lowest fare it gives u the mths calendar and prices

There are some flights in Oct, Nov , feb , March , April (?) can’t remember where flights are $0 , just need to pay taxes.

The prefix (Mr, ms) are like above the spots u input your name (easily missed)

    Good luck!

Nothing during xmas/ new year period?

  • +1

Beware of how bad their service is. Earlier in the year, we got onboard and stuck at tarmac for two hours in Saigon heat without aircond and no water provided (can't even buy water until they are at cruising altitude). They knew the aircraft aircond system was defective and still loaded us on. Took them 4 hours to push the carts around.

    • Tbh we don't have better alternative for budget airline in the same route. Jetstar is more of a joke even

    • +2

we were stuck on the tarmac on a jetstar return flight for 3 hours… one hour after I purchased their inflight entertainment they informed the whole flight that they would get it for free because of the delay lol

      • damn - we were stuck on the runway at Naha Okinawa after being the only plane to land there that day in a typhoon - major side-slipping on approach was something to experience !

I don't remember getting any refund offer there - just regular typhoon season - maybe October

      • What was the date and flight number, would love to forward this to a few mates I know as this is completely against SOP

  • I keep getting “Expired date is not valid” when trying to pay with my cards. I put in the format MM/YY for example 08/23. Can’t figure out what’s wrong.

    • Got the same thing. Couldnt proceed

  • +1

They try to advertise the cheap airfares but what about your holiday there in terms of being charged correctly? They know that you are a tourist esp Westerners and you will be surcharged at premium for the goods or services by and incredulously crazy amount. Beware of places like Saigon, Bien Hoa, beaches, tourist areas. It may look alright with one way ticket but when you are deciding how to get back, you're gonna be slapped hard in a non-regulated country, as they'll try to surcharge your ticket like administration cost, service fee, anything that they want to do because they can lmao no joke. So just be prepared.

  • +1

Not a bad deal, but can we stop calling these $0 flights? You don’t get to exclude taxes from the price of any other deal.

  • Cheapest I can find is $58 plus taxes, so Total $429.94 AUD return…not sure if that's still rock bottom..
