      I have a gooseneck version of this that I use for stovetop, it works well. But i am waiting for a deal for those on amazon before I buy more.

      Standard price on amazon for the gooseneck version is always around $10

      I dont know how much more effective this will be over that one. Seems a bit gimmicky

        Gooseneck is better for lighting stoves, bbqs, etc. This is ok for well exposed wicks, paper.

          Not if you steal their tasers and use them against them. Gotta say that the modern justice system has a sense of humour. Worst-case scenario is a slap on the wrist, if everything goes pear-shaped

        I agree. I've had mine for years as well.
        Leave it in the car for those birthday situations where we need to light up a candle, and no one around smokes (or admits smoking).

        It's not ideal for candles "in cups", for example, as it can't reach inside as well as the "gooseneck" version mentioned in the comments above.

      For lighting my wood heater I bought as a backup for gas lighters running out, can recharge using a solar battery bank etc. I do wish I bought the version with the plasma at the top, exposed and accessible - as to light anything you're delicately slipping in paper or paper thin material. Might be picky, but the other models could be used like a traditional lighter, just holding it and igniting on your source in one go.

    These are not good for cigs, right? Because of how the "flame" is in the narrow space between the prongs.

    Got it last time - not really useful. hard to use on anything other than piece of paper 0 - even small sticks are burnt to ash rather than set aflame

    had one of these for a couple years, only ever use as a backup if lighter fluid runs out in the bush… they work but man its a struggle

      use the long flexible tip ones they are more effective, or at least where the arc points upwards and has no housing obstruction not sideways like these with two walls on either side of the arc

        I regularly light a type of rolled cig with these but you are right there are better options for a tailored cig.

      been using arc lighters for 5+ years, no problems, lasts years.

      the lighter with arc pointing upwards not sideways are more useful

    Beware if you have a guard dog. this will set them wild. there's noises being generated that we arent able to hear that causes my dog to go mental when I light a candle.
