[NSW] 30% off Default Market Offer & No Increase in 2023 @ Globird Energy

2146

As per the title, GloBird currently seems to be the most competitive energy provider (at least in NSW) offering prices 30% lower than the reference price and guaranteeing NO Increase in 2023!

In addition to this, you can also get the following discounts:

  • Further 1% lower with 1% direct debit discount
  • Further 1% lower with 2% pay on time discount

Lastly, you could potentially also get the $50 credit upon joining, see deal here.

Note: The deal may be similar for other states as well but I can't attest so have marked it as NSW only.

Update: There have been reports from users that their rates are different when using a referral link compared to when checked on comparison website. If this applies to you, please ensure that you don't signup with higher rates and instead call up GloBird and ask them to apply the referral manually to their advertised rates. You will have to reach out to your referrer to get their account number etc so that GloBird can manually apply the referral.

PS. Please always check your welcome email as that should have the rates which applies to you. All the best :)

      • I get where you are coming from. I tried to call once but was unable to get through. I then tried their ticket/e-mail system. They were responsive to those and got back to me within the day so I am feeling okay.

Seems calling is not easy to do, but to be fair I was on hold for about 70 minutes with GloBird when I called them the same day.

        • Thanks for sharing! Their rates do look pretty good.

I spoke to Energy australia (My current provider) and they beat Globird and gave me 31 % better for 12 months no increase

    • +1

Did you speak to retention team or just normal customer service team? What is the Solar Feed In Tarrif, if you would know.

      • +2

I spoke to retention team. I haven't received the documents yet. But can let you know… I don't have solar anyway but useful for you to find out.

        • +1

Hey mate, did you end up getting those documents?

Theres a few comments further up on this post of a few of us talking to EA retention but offering us nothing haha.

          • @amityaaron: I'm also interested!

I recently talked to EA retention team and they pretty much said the pricing is increasing and they couldn't offer any better than Globird and couldn't guarantee a lock in (with a high solar FIT). Globird's 15c/kwh (for first 8kwh) FIT knocked it out of the park for me, since I export quite a bit. I also pointed out to the EA rep that their current 'new' plans are cheaper than what my price is increasing to, and they palmed it off and basically said its the responsibility of the customer to check the current offers. In essence, if customers aren't checking their bills and notices, they'll be on a higher rate for no reason - I feel for elderly customers who may not be aware of this.

@bargainhunter9: I probs got more issues haha.

I just got a smart meter installed and my avg daily usage is going to cost me $790 this quarter.

All my bills for the past 3 years never go over $290 haha.

              Goodbye EA.

@amityaaron: Sorry buddy I got it yesterday. But no feed in tariff on policy. In saying that I am on the Flexi plan with a fixed 31% discount
            https://www.energyaustralia.com.au/home/solar/feed-in-tariff…
According to this it says 7.6c/kw
For reference my daily charge will be 64c /day and 26 C/kw fixed

            • +1

@maverickjohn: That's a crazy good deal! Wish they would have offered me that… :(
Especially if those rates are locked in for 12 months!

              • @bargainhunter9: I just told them the globird price and said I'll keeps hopping around as I wasn't happy with their pricing. The retention team took over asked for globird screenshot and fixed that deal

                • @maverickjohn: Thanks for the tip - I'll try that out tomorrow.

                  • @bargainhunter9: "you are 103 in the queue. Estimated wait time is 22 mins".

                    Been 40 mins so far..

Hahha im prob going to be here most of the day, for them to close the chat because I didnt reply in 3 minutes..

                  • +1

@bargainhunter9: Finally got a hold of someone, theyre not going to beat globird, but i think overall it works out cheaper.

They offered me one set of rates, i asked if they could do better, so they sent me another quote.

                    Daily charge: 0.821238
                    Usage: 25.30506

                    Gas - 25% discount
2x $50 credits for electric and gas accounts.

                    Locked for 12 months.

                    Happy with the outcome haha

                    • @amityaaron: Its same rate I got on the quote for new customers, but without the credits.

                    • @amityaaron: Much much lower than the rates on their website

                      • +1

@wetwork: i know right…its crazy that theyre going to charge me 40c usage but a little chatting got them down to 25c…

                        • @amityaaron: Good work. Alinta were just like "bye bye" to me. Maybe because I'm in NSW.

                    • @amityaaron: I tried hard! But the best they could offer was 31% discount on the current Flexi plan:
                      Supply: $0.9625/day ($0.664125 after 31% discount)
                      Usage: $0.381788/kwh ($0.26343372 after 31% discount)

They were not able to offer any lock-in for 12 months

                      • +1

@bargainhunter9: Those are pretty much the rates i got.

Shame they didnt lock for 12 months.

I had a friend get them to do 25% discount and they locked for 12 months without him asking

                      • @bargainhunter9: They lock the discount for 12 months though don't they?

                        • @maverickjohn: Oh, I thought you guys meant locked the rate for 12 months! Oops! Thanks
Also, it looks like Globird will put me ahead if EA decides to up their rate by another 10c again. (A rate and supply increase of 10c would make EA approximately $120 higher per quarter, even with the 31% discounts).

Are electricity price increases on a schedule, or is it just random?

                          • @bargainhunter9: From what I have read fossil fuel prices should be dropping not increasing. Although we know no one is that generous

                      • @bargainhunter9: I did this too thanks! With the 31% discount locked for a year. They also gave me $50 credit! i'd only just gotten $75 credit from them 3 weeks ago from joining lol
                        Daily Supply $0.683100
                        Peak $0.260526
                        Control Load $0.131595

    • That's an amazing deal, esp. for Energy Australia.

  • Sent us a 30% increase 1 August. Churned to TangoEnergy next day like many others bringing the increase down to 10%. They must of lost a ton of customers, 3 weeks later they reduce their rates. Ausnet VIC.

  • Last week I noticed the rates were slightly lower for electricity, and now they saying 25% discount, instead of 30% discount.

  • Looks like the plans have gone up by 5%-10% - at least in metro Sydney.

Wish I'd noticed before signing up a another house under referral. Could be a brief stay…

    • Nope, still seeing the prices 30% lower than the reference price plus the additional 2% as mentioned in the OP. How much do you see for their GloSave plans?

      • Must be unique to certain areas.

GloSave is showing as 23% off reference. 28.38 & 30.80 p/kWh. Not sure how that compares with what I was quoted originally as Boost worked out better for me so I never recorded GloSave numbers

Boost is now showing $1.023 per day + 27.06c and 29.15c compared to the rates I signed up for on 10th July at 91.3c per day + 24.86c and 28.05c p/kWh. That said, the FIT has also increased from .05c to .06c.

Would have done both houses at the same time, but was waiting for account to be confirmed so I could sign up for the referral bonus. The genius of retrospect…

        • +1

I noticed same, ever since this deal was posted they have hiked prices a Little and now even more if you check it's jumped up big time. It good that they will honour locked in prices for some time but
means if wanting to change plans within Globird it will all be expensive now. E.g if you are on saver and are using higher energy then Boost would be better in theory but not any more.

  • if I join now, they will lock in price till end 2023 for sure?

    • i think so but better call them to ask.
and when joining dont forget the referral system

      • On their website, it says online chat available during business hours. But status is always offline. I am contemplating between this or OVO energy. I am not sure if OVO locks the price in.

    • It says "Join today - no price change in 2023" on the Globird homepage so I thought it would apply to all of their plans when signing up online? Can anyone confirm this?

  • +3

As someone who has referred quite a few Ozbargainers to Globird, I have been asked by quite a few people whether "Join today – no price change in 2023" really is dependable.

My answer is that I have no inside knowledge, but my experience with Globird is - yes they keep their promises.

They do frequently change the prices they offer to new customers, but that doesn't change what existing customers pay.

My thought is that they likely lock in a certain volume with upstream producers / sellers for a given period of time and then go out and market that volume. Once that allocation is used up, they then have to negotiate a new allocation and then market that.

So prices offered tomorrow to new customers might not be the same as the prices offered today to new customers, but once you have locked in a rate with Globird that should be honoured for the guaranteed period.

    I hope this helps.

    • same here.
i remember when i joined long time ago, they told me 6 months guarantee without increase (on the phone but i want it recorded), and yes exactly 7 months later thats the first increase i got

    • Most elec provider increased rates every year anyway most from july-1

  • It's been over two weeks and Globird is still trying to transfer from last provider. Does it really take this long to transfer from provider to provider? I thought the process would take only a couple of days.

    What is the norm?

    • pretty normal I would say, took me about 3 weeks too

    • Yeah about 3 weeks for me, I don't think my previous transfers took that long.

    • Took about 12 business days for me switching from Powershop - I've found quite often providers wait until the 10 days cancellation period is over, they'll commence the transfer the day before. I'm under Endeavour Energy distributor in NSW with a smart meter

  • A side question, is it cheaper to heat up a house using gas or electricity? Thanks

    • +1

I have heard gas heaters are the best but they are very pricey to begin with. Expensive to buy but cheaper to run. They also don’t cause dryness which many people suffer with due to non gas heater.

      • I am using central ducted heating, basically running at every night at 20 degree for whole house, include hot water and stove.

$188 28 days June to July
$354 69 days April to June

I wonder if i switch to full electricity would the bills be cheaper excluding the costs to convert.

        • Do you mean you run the heating during the night?

          • @Yola: Yeah

            • @spedohero: Of course, we are all different but I do not just go to bed with the electric blanket on. It would save a lot.

              • @Yola: Yeah. Of course. The lesser usage the cheaper the bill. So i reckon my gas usage is high then. Lol. Its only heats up when temp dropped below 20 and push it back up.

                • @spedohero: Does it make a noise when it goes on and off during the night?

                  • @Yola: A little but its not annoying to disturb the sleep. I just don't know if my usage is high compare to other households though.

                    • +1

                      @spedohero: $188 28 days June to July
$354 69 days April to June

There are many variables. How large is your house - how many heating vents? The $ amounts are not useful, need to compare usage as others rates are different. IMO you should not worry what others use is but concentrate on what you can save.

    Did this deal expire?

I joined earlier in the week but just got my rates and they are not what I was expecting. If I request a quote now I only see 10% off.

    Thanks.

    • +1

As I think I commented elsewhere, in my experience Globird frequently changes what it offers new customers, but once you are locked into a rate they will honour that rate for the agreed time period.

If what they are telling you that you are on now is not what you believe you signed up to, that is an issue, and you should contact their customer services. But if you joined earlier in the week then what they offer new customers today is not relevant to you.

      I hope this helps.

      • It took a few days to get in touch with them, but they ended up honouring the rates.

I had a screenshot from my sign up process showing the lower rates. I discussed it with a friend and came back to the same window about 90 minutes later to complete the process.

When I got my confirmation email it has the worse rates.

It seems the price changed midway through my slow process of joining and I somehow wasn’t informed or didn’t notice.

        Anyway, it’s all sorted now.

They confirmed they got smashed by this offer and were varying their rates to less competitive rates in order to throttle sign ups.

    • Yes it went from 30% off to 25% then to 10%.

  • +1

Finally my electricity is transferred to Globird from AGL which mean i will get this cheap pricing for 5 months at least.

    • +1

They probably put an automatic increase come new year.

      • +1

i am 100% sure that they will

    • +1

I have seen an estimated cost of $750 (insanely high) for just 2 months from AGL. I have never paid more than $600 for 3 months. Requested transfer to Globird, hopefully, it will be processed in 1-2 weeks.

  • +1

Signed up with a referral link. Bye bye Sumo energy

    • For 30% off reference rate? Seems it’s gone

  • 30% off the reference price plan is no longer offered.

  • I switched over combo but only electricity has come through so far, no correspondence of gas apart from initial email. Update : I see an email about the gas metre number being correct or not I'll check it to make sure.

  • I signed up but unfortunately with current rates not this deal, but does anyone know if I can direct debit via bsb/acc? Online sign up only has card direct debit. But I did the $50 referral option, better than nothing
