[VIC, NSW, QLD, SA] $50 Credit for Gas or Electricity for Both Referee & Referrer When Switching @ Globird Energy

430

A $50 incentive to switch to Globird via referral.
Both parties get $50 as an account credit: - the referrer gets $50 when the new account is transferred to GloBird.
The new customer’s (referee) gets $50 referral bonus on their second invoice.
I noticed a 'clawback' clause whereby:
'If the referred account is closed within the first 3 months, any already paid referral credit of will be reversed'

Might suit some people if the rates work out in your area - I would always carefully compare
To get a referral, use the PM referral randomizer below

3 July update: Referral program extended to 31/12/2023.
Extended again to 30/6/24

  • If you want a referral, use the referral system under the deal description. If you are in a rush, send a few messages via the system and then use whoever replies first. Also note that our referral system won't include users who haven't logged into OzBargain for some time.

    • Does sending out a few messages for a referral link affect the chance of the others being selected again for another referral since only one of them will actually be used?

      • No it does not matter, every click is random and won't look at who was selected previously or do it in some type of order.

Always get denied globird due to my credit which has no late payments and is over 800.

Try nectr if you are just after electricity.
I have electricity with nectr and gas with globird.
Nectr have a $50 referral as well.

    • Nectr want a mobile phone and an email address.

Sadly for my parents, they have a landline and a physical address. (Im already sorted)

      Otherwise they looked quite OK.

    • I found Nectr to be cheaper for my and my parents' circumstances too.

My parents' account are going onto a "loyalty" plan (Nectr Hive Saver) from 1 July which is about 13% (usage) and 6.5% (supply) less than the current plan. Haven't gotten an email about my own account yet, but hoping.

    • Nectr feed in tariffs are good?

      • 5.2 c (same as many ripping off billing agents)- Nectr is not cheap in my area. Tango or simply energy better feedin tariff > 10c but the supply charge is around 12x c

With globird it pays off to check their rates a month after they increase prices. They doubled up my gas in July 2022. Checked in August and their rates went down again so called them and moved to cheaper rates.

I think the trick with all of these companies is to stay nimble - take whatever incentives you can find and keep moving.

    • +1

They did this to me in Dec 22 as well. I was not impressed. Got another price rise for 1st July too, which is another 50% too. I just signed up for the Origin offer on this site.

  • +2

Oh nice was just looking to sign up with them

  • Im with them almost a year, gas and elec
fyi they bill per month not quarterly.

The feed tariff is good but you better check their usage rates.
So if you are small family with solar panel and use mostly on the day time, this provider is good.
And yeah i got few $50 already, my account is on credit since months ago

    • Yeah the bill per month thing was the killer for me.

Not really interested in dealing with a dozen miniscule bills than a quarterly couple of hundred.

      • Hmm its all setup direct debit so all automated but yeah i like my bank statement clean and short too.

  • They had a “our rates are so cheap that we’ll beat your bill or give you $50” promotion, but then claimed that because my bill was on a different billing structure (fixed) from the time-of-use meters that qlders got compulsorily moved to, they couldn’t compare rates even though my rates were cheaper. They then offered a $50 bill credit instead.

I wouldn’t trust a company that claims one thing then turns around and finds a way to wiggle out of their dues.

Yep, same here, also they stop people from using multiple amex offers previously

I've been with Globird on and off over the last five years or so. They have been mostly the cheapest in my area for both fuel types among the retailers who didn't require a pile of looping-through-hoops (prepayment, odd conditions, pretend lock-ins, etc, etc). I've moved away from Globird on a few occasions but in most cases they have still been competitive. Customer service has been ok, the newish website is easy to interact with. But whatever you choose, yes you still need to keep an eye on the market.

  • +1

Globird has their own coupon page which sometimes has better deals.

  • +1

They are useless and don't honour the beating competition claim. Called them and they said they don't know why their site says to compare and they'll beat as they can't offer that.

  • How do i become one of the random referrers?

    • Go to My Account > edit tab > referrals tab > scroll down to GloBird, tick the box and click Save. Then keep an eye out for private messages asking for a referral. Follow the link to get your referral link.

      • That's correct - be aware that there is also a 'use by' date with the referrals links - it will be shown to you when you get your referral. I think they refresh them with new promos.

  • The referral system seems to work very well. I have referred quite a few ozbargainers.

Their rates are often the lowest available (or close to the lowest) - also in Vic. In Vic they only change prices annually for existing customers - so whatever rates you sign onto are only changed each 1 August.

  • Also from time to time I have seen AmEx offers - pay Globird Energy $x and get a statement credit of $y. I think that last one was 'spend $200 get back $50' - so that is a good saving, and they don't charge extra for credit card payments (Visa, MC or AmEx)

  • i get this error "Unable to send private message: Overseas user" is there an setting I need to change somewhere? I am definitely not overseas lol

  • Think i registered as one of the random referrers. Do I generate the referral link if/after someone contacts me?

  • Where do we enter the referral email to get the bonus? I am in step 3 it didnt ask for a referral email. Please help!

    • Need to apply using a referral link - click on the referral link then follow the steps and fill in your details as usual

  • I am with energy Australia. And told them about globird pricing. Their retention team have me 31% below reference for 12 months. Consider speaking to your providers.

  • Hello Everyone..am a noob so bare with me…I am signing up with them now ..both for gas and electricity..so can i sign up separately for both using 2 different referrals codes..making it $50 for gas & $50 for electricity..or it has to be done in 1 signup..using only 1 referral code..getting only 1 $50 credit for both..? Thanks in advance

Never tried it before but based on the T&C "The referee must be a NEW customer of GloBird Energy who has never had an account (either gas or electricity) with us now or in the past for the previous 24 months. The referral bonus is not available to a person who we deem not to be a new customer." I'd say only one $50 since once you sign up for one, you'd no longer be considered a new customer. Probably doesnt hurt trying anyway if there is no gas & electricity sign up bonus

  • (profanity), the referrer sent me the wrong link, although it still directed me to the quoting page and I have finished the transfer, do I still get the bonus?

    • +1

How can they send you a wrong link? In any case, you probably need to go back to your referrer and get their account number and then call GloBird to explain the issue and have them manually applied the referral. All the best and let us know how you go :)

    • You can even email GloBird support and I`m sure they will sort it out for you :)

  • If I sign up for a gas and a power plan (not a bundle)for the same property, can I use two referrals and get 2x$50 credit?

  • -1

Promo code SELFSERVE202304 - not sure what it gets though

  • globird have lots of hidden fees, you can't change plans once your with them otherwise they charge you $50 also if you have solar they charge extra for any configuration all the other don't…lot more charges i have not listed here also

    • +1

Lucky that we havnt been charged any fees during the one year we've been with them. Our solar panels are old tho

  • Not sure why, but they denied me for gas connection???

  • +1

Below are your new energy rates which will take effect from 01 Jan 2024.
Auto increase of 25% on elec and gas.

    • this was inevitable, they were the cheapest (at least for me) and promised to not increase rates in 2023.

    • +1

Increase is near 50% for me in QLD…..where to next?

      • +1

same here in NSW, just did a quick comparison and found Dodo to be cheaper in my area. Will check back around the end of December as other retailers may increase their rates in January too

      • Wow. Increase from $0.23261 to $0.33717 (45% !!!! ) and 20% decrease on FIT. Ouch. Time to look elsewhere.

  • +1

For anyone returning to scene of the crime of this referral or the other posted glowbirds deal, I just received an email advising of tariff increases and FIT reduction from one minute past midnight on Jan 1.

Tariff increases of 30+% will have me churning within six months of joining.

This has been a GloBird public service announcement…

  • +1

Received an official email notice yesterday of 50% increase. Time to churn.

    • Wow. I just checked an email I received for our other place which we also signed up in July, and found the same thing. 49% increases to both tariffs.

      What a shameful business model…

      • to be honest we did get really good deal back in July when they locked in their rates for rest of 2023 so I think most of us have benefited from it. But agree, time to move on.

      • Everytime the energy prices go up I just check who is cheaper/cheapest on Energy Made Easy. GloBird probably saved me $200 over the last 5-6 months so no hard feelings moving on. It's ironic that I churned from AGL to GloBird after AGL put up their rates 25% and now AGL is the cheapest.
