Watch All Games at Wimbledon 2023 for Free via BBC iPlayer (VPN Required)

780

If you're looking to watch Wimbledon 2023 but can't rely on Channel 9 to deliver quality stream/number of matches then I've got you. After struggling to find a stream to watch some of these exciting matches, finally stumbled upon this and managed to get it work. Channel 9 has got limited coverage of the games, only showing few games per day, some streams finishing at 10pm.

Thought I'd share with my ozb family given its free and don't have to sign up to another subscription (Stan).

Follow the following steps:

Step 1: Use VPN and go to United Kingdom

Step 2: Sign Up to BBC iPlayer (link in thumbnail)

Step 3: Follow the prompts and sign up successfully.

Step 4: When you try to press Play, It'll ask you have to say you have a TV license, You can say Yes.

Step 5: Your video should start 😊

You should be able to watch all games without having to subscribe to Stan or wait for Channel 9 to show your game.

Hope this helps!

    for Free via BBC iPlayer

How much is the BBC iPlayer normally ?

    • +2

Not sure to be honest, just looked at the cost of Stan and decided not to go ahead with it just for Wimbledon.

    • +1

It's only available in the UK and is covered by their TV licence.

The fact that a Western country still has a TV tax in the digital and streaming 21st century is utterly bizarre.

      • -1

The fact that a Western country still has a TV tax

How does the ABC get funded?

        • “The digital and streaming 21st century” takes care of that, silly.

        • -1

Do we have a TV licence in Australia?

          No.

They know their system in the UK is not fit for purpose but won't do anything about it.

          • -1

            @R4:

Do we have a TV licence in Australia?

Still pay the government for it.

            • @jv: Grownups have a thing called money.

      • High quality productions with no advertisement and free streaming. Think the license fee is a bargain!

        • Yet here we are in Australia accessing it for free. Not very smart on their part.

There's plenty of debate over there on the ineffectiveness of their TV licence system but no action to change it.

  • +5

Is pirating really a bargain? If so, I'll post a few bargains myself. Arrrgghh!

    • +5

Haha I Know what you mean but its still better than paying for Stan, legit can't stand paying for Stan just to watch Wimbledon

    • +13

I mean, some of OzBargain's most popular bargains are actually VPN-based deals - e.g. Turkish Netflix. A bit different to just plain old pirating.

    • +5

      Please why not, share away!?

It's not pirating because you're not reproducing or copying anyone's content. VPNs are legal to use also. If anything, it's probably considered unethical but then again, who hasn't ever used a VPN to spoof their location for whatever reason at least once in their life!

      • But if you should be legally paying for the BBC via the TV licence surely it’s more than unethical? You’re saying you have an TV licence when you don’t. Other UK channels don’t require a TV licence to watch catch up TV, but BBC does, it’s the only one.

        • +6

@Twinkle27 - its not required by BBC. Its a requirement of the law of that country that you must hold a TV license in order to watch TV in UK. Since I'm not a UK resident, I'm actually not violating that law. Why other UK streaming sites don't ask you that question is up to them, they all should be asking since it's a requirement of them.

          • @nsingh21: Watch tv yes, not stream. In the UK, you don’t need a tv licence to watch catch up streaming on ITV or channel 4 say, which is why they don’t ask. It’s only a requirement of BBC. That’s what I had meant, I just didn’t explain it well.

    • +1

It's not pirating. Unethical maybe but that's subjective.

    • it's not technically pirating though

  • +1

working well on my MacBook without buffer, using surfshark vpn. Thanks OP
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer

    • glad it helped 😊

  • +1

Dont need to necessarily use a VPN. Should work via one of the streaming Smart DNS services

    • Haven't tried using that, lmk how it goes

    • This is the way to do it.

Been doing this for years now and it's much better than VPN.

      • Any service you recommend?

        • +1

          Smart DNS Proxy

          • @R4: Thank you I'll check it out

    • What does this mean?

  • Doesn’t BBC iPlayer block VPNs?

    • my steam is still going since morning no issues.

      • Which VPN service are you using?

        • +2

Used ExpressVPN and NordVPN. Both worked with no issues.

When I tried logging in without VPN it gave me an error "You need to be in UK to use BBC iPlayer"

    • +1

They block some VPNs but others are getting around it.

  • +2

A whole lot of steps just to see Djoker win….again.

    • haha, some decent R4 matchups coming up
      Alcaraz v Berrettini
      Dimitrov v Rune

    • +5

      Only governments can stop him!

  • +1

I'm having trouble finding a valid postcode it will accept on registration

    • +1

Just google some generic postcodes in suburbs and you'll be good1

    • +3

      CR3 7EH

That was my postcode when I lived in the UK.

      • That worked. Thank you. It wouldn't accept anything I googled.

        • Excellent!

      • No wonder POMs move to OZ

        • Eh?

Who said I was a pom? I just said I lived in the UK. It wasn't home.

          • @R4: Sorry for the misunderstanding, I didn’t say you are a POM. I’m just saying their postcodes are ridiculous!

            • @CandyMan: Cool.

I've never really thought about postcodes like that - they're one of those things that just is.

              I'm sure there's a method to them.

    • +1

You can try searching on google with "uk postcode generator". It worked on mine.

  • Just signed up for my 5th Stan trial to get me through this years Wimbledon …. might need to use this method next time lol.

    • I was getting tired of doing that haha - Legit can't stand Stan for some reason. Hope this method works for you next time

  • Just be aware that not all VPNs will enable BBC iplayer access.

A better solution is using a DNS redirect service. I've been using Smart DNS Proxy for years and it works well. It costs me roughly $35 every two years.

    • can you share how does one sign up/use one going forward?

      • +1

        Sign up here:
        https://www.smartdnsproxy.com/

Plenty of info on their site about how to set it up.

Another good option, although more pricey is Streamlocator hub:

        https://www.streamlocator.com/hub-global

This is a fantastic piece of tech and works very well.

        • This is great thank you! Obviously you need accounts/subscriptions for most of those things correct?

          • +1

@waltjizzney: Yes, you need a subscription. Smart DNS is more expensive than Streamlocator but not as flexible.

I think there are some free DNS services out there but not sure of their effectiveness.

    • Also how many people can use DNS Proxy at the same time? Sussing if this can be shared

      • I'm not sure. I think it's tied to your IP address.

  • +1

BBC iPlayer is also louder than the others - volume goes to 11

  • Legend OP! Thx

  • Would love to use this freebie instead of stan despite my hate for the BBC. But I can cast stan on my smart tv to watch on big screen. I think this one won't allow me to do so

  • Good to know and noted.

I came across Cloudfare TVs which look like also free. Wonder if anything good from them

  • Is this working with Windscribe?

    Awesome it worked. Thanks OP

Don't need to sign up, https://gist.github.com/random-robbie/e56919b5603ecc87af8853…. Use https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/reproductor-m3u8-h… with VPN/Smartdns. I find the direct links better then using iPlayer.
