Great deal for the Taiwan made Iwatani bbq grill plate which normally close to $70 elsewhere. Eating out is getting so expensive these days, especially if you're craving for some Korean wagyu bbq. I've just went to one last weekend and the amount of meat for $200 isn't much. Better off getting a kilo of good quality wagyu, some kimchi from Costco and you're sorted.

  • The small was below 20, and large was below 25… Hoping prime day drops it down to there again. Still a great price tho

    • I never seen them that low before. When was it?

      • Like a few weeks ago from memory, but might have been a permanent increase. Put off buying it and missed out :(

    Pass.

Go to a korean grocery and buy their plates instead. They cost about $35-$40 but much more worth it.

These things dont do much better than the $20 kmart ones you can find, and are a pain in the ass to clean.

Source: I used to do at least 2-3 korean bbqs at home every summer. Over the years my plate has seen probably about 50+ uses now.

Any chance you still have remember the brand or link to a similar product? Interested in grabbing one

    • I have had one from iwatani and it is indeed doing great.
Cleaning it with sponge and the grease just came off by itself without a hassle.
has been using it for 20+ times and the coating is still doing great! but yeah ymmv

I use disposable grill mesh from daisoo on disposable aluminium tray filled with charcoal. No cleaning necessary!

  • Love me some TBBQ.

  • Been using this for years and it’s fantastic.

  • Will this work with the iwatani 35fw?

  • Can anyone recommend a grill for the larger plate?

  • Does it has smoke coming from the grill?

    • This doesn’t claim smokeless so I would say it has

    thanks for posting! ^^)

for a first time user of this.. should i buy the small or large? or both?

    • +3

I bought the small because I use it on the butani gas stove. A large plate might dispense the heat too much out. For 2-3 ppl I think the small would do

      • thanks itstuan, i got the small one… hmm now to find a good butane gas stove haha.. can i use this on a normal gas cooktop? is there anypoint to that? i only had korean bbq once. or should i get a portable butane gas stove?

        • I can’t think why not, but it defeats the purpose. I’m sure you can find a cheap butane gas stove on prime day or bunnings? I think Aldi also has it on sale now & then

I love kbqq or jbbq especially if it has wagyus. How many people did you spend $200 for?

I paid $60 per person and I got unlimited wagyu

    • yeah if its not unlimited, its not worth it

    • It was 4 adults & a kid. Yeah I know couple places with wagyu buffet for +$60 but the quality of per serving has gone down with everything increases. To a point they bring out frozen & thin cut wagyu. Not that great.

      • $200 all up for 4 adults & a kid is pretty good, was the wagyu any good?

Yes, all kbbq and jbbq jacked up their prices after covid. Now you're paying 20% - 30% more with smaller quality and less options. Sucks big time

However I think doing kbbq at home is much harder to organise compared to say hotpot. You have to buy and prepare all sorts of variety of meats before hand cleaning the grill will be a pain in the ass afterwards!

        • if just AU wagyu beef, you can purchase pre-mayo or ready pack from Korea butcher shop. little pricy but tasted good. even normal beef in the ready pack is very good.

However, if you are purchasing at least $150/kg JP Wagyu. it is whole lot worth to do it yourself. you will experience the difference of JP Wagyu.

        • We weren’t full or anything. But didn’t want to order more as the beef was average. Low grade wagyu. You get much better value doing at home. Just get some good wagyu from the Grocer or specialty shop. Some pork belly, kimchi, mushroom & corn cheese. It’s pretty much what we ordered from the restaurant anyway. Yes there’s some cleaning afterward but you would save 100-200 bucks. Worth doing :)

          • @itstuan: I went here on the weekend, $59.90 per person. They just recently opened and it's very good value. I'm predicting that they will be putting up the price once they get established customers

We were very satisfied with the offers and will be going back again. The Wagyu Chuck eye and Rib eye fillet were great quality.

I don't think I can do that at home for $120 then factoring in the prep before and the cleaning afterwards

            • @Homr: haha the plane ticket will make it more expensive than it worths. But I know some $60 wagyu places in Melbourne also if you ever come down. Yes, for 2 people, better just eat out and enjoy the night.

  • Increased cashback!

  • Does anyone know if the difference between the small and large is just the top part? So the bottom that sits on the stove is the same size?

    • +1

Since they are made to be used with Butane gas stove. I think the bottom part should be just same size.

  • +1

Can this be used on an induction cooktop or does it need to be gas burner?

    • +1

      Also wondering this

    • +1

you will need gas burner. induction cooktop doesn't work on mine.
it has round base with empty at the middle. fill water on the base for oil dripping down.

      • +1

Thank you.. I was pretty certain looking at the pictures, but just wanted to try my luck :). Now looking for a good gas burner prime deal. Funny, until yesterday, I didn't even know I needed a Korean BBQ grill plate. Today, I desperately need a gas burner :D

        • That’s how OB works my friend. They tell you what you need.

  • Any particular online store where you guys order your wagyu you can recommend?

  • I went for large, hoping it fits in the portable butane stove I have.

    • Before buying, measured my portable butane stove. Was from Supercheap sale. Most cheaper ones seem same size.

Large would place hotplate over gas cylinder! But there is some thickness in this design, raising hot plate higher. Bought Small just in case.
