While the spamming of OzBargain begins where everyone forgets how to vote, why not add this ultra-low priced 2TB SSD to the mix? It's an M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen3 SSD with a sequential read up to 2,200 MB/s and sequential write up to 1,600MB/s.

It uses TLC flash (Micron or YMTC usually) with pSLC cache and HMB instead of DRAM cache, so it'll still offer good performance in bursts. Plus it has 1200TBW with a 5 year warranty. A good option for game storage, in a portable enclosure or where fast reads are needed.

Not compatible with the PS5.

Buckle up, it’s going to be a crazy hour.

  • This is a 2280, not 2230 size

    • Lol yeah had my previous WD deal in my mind!

    • Although pricey, this is a nice case design,
for housing 2 NVMe SSDs ,
      ie. sizes 2230 / 2242 /2260 / 2280

ORICO Dual M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure

      • If I get it correctly, you need to put on a thick thermal pad, then a tiny piece of aluminum having the same size of the thermal pad, which have about the same amount of heat exchange surface as the bare SSD, then covered by another aluminum case on top with perfect air heat barrier in middle?

        • Something like that…

The Orico design has the ribbed/fins on the body,
          which dissipate the heat better.

As for the internal heat transfer mechanisms,
I didn't look too closely at that yet.

          • +1

@whyisave: fins only going to work when the other side contacts the heat source

    not that cheap

The closest anything has got to this price recently is the Kingston NV2 for $117.95 and that's coming from Germany! Unless there's something else sub-$100 I'm missing?

      • -3

yeah there is but all these neggers not getting the link to it

        it's not that far off

  • Does this have good endurance and is the brand reputably reliable?

    • +1

OP wrote 1200tbw endurance, that's very good.

    • +2

1200TBW endurance is good for any large drive. The Kingston NV2 2TB linked above is only 640TBW.

Silicon Power will component swap with batches, so you could end up with YMTC or Micron flash and a Silicon Motion or Maxio controller. Fortunately there's been no evidence of swapping the flash to QLC so that's certainly a plus.

I wouldn't buy this at any price. Its basically a waste of money.

These things quite literally bend just by touching them - ive never seen such a flimsy ssd before.
I got two and they started failing after about 3 years.

  • I have an old Asus Strix gaming laptop with 128gb nvme. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/286367

Any idea if this would fit?

    • According to this review it's using an M.2 SATA SSD but will work with an M.2 NVMe Gen3 SSD, so this would work.

  • Got a Dell XPS 15 9520. Would this fit?

    • +1

Yes. According to the specs it'll support an M.2 2280 Gen3 or Gen4 SSD.

  • +1

    OOS. That went fast!
