  • Any comments on Qingdao tourism-wise? I noticed it made it into the top 10 China destinations on tripadvisor.

    • was German colonial, now still keep some German building.

    • it is a beautiful city. clean and nice people. best to go in summer as it is a coastal city. there is a international beer festival in July (just finished). the seafood is nice too.

dont go there in winter… went there in winter to visit a friend ..

I remember qingdao beer was cheaper than bottled water :)

dead zone and cold (like almost 0) in winter but yeah seafood is nice though

they called it the 'gold coast' of china but i can already image anywhere in china… it will be "PACKED" in peak season

the colonial houses are nice… but the nicer ones are out of bounds cause they have been turned into government buildings

theres an aquarium and a theme park i think… spent 10 days there and couldn't remember much about the place

Beer and it's cold as there I heard

    • The summer is nice - relative cool summer and warm winter in China
The promo picture on the website is funny though - love the drink from a bag part - beer there is less than $1 a litre in my memory

      • yep… about three chinese bucks per 500ml, which is about 50 aussie cents. they pour the beer in plastic bags and weight it up and charge you by weight.

  • I can't do one way fares from China to Aus even through I can do a return. Anyone figured out a way around this?

  • Of course, Scoot are flying to two cities in China I have never heard of, while yet to service the most livable city in the world (2 years in a row) sigh

    • what do you mean? scoots flies sydney.

Cause Melbourne is $$$, but the main reasons were the time planes just sat on the tarmac in Singapore, they could easily service short-medium haul destinations, so instead of paying for the aircraft to sit in the airport for 8+ hours, they created 2 more routes that run twice every week, each destination is around 6.5 hours and can split the cost of servicing Melbourne into 2 new cities in China.

      That's what I gathered from Campbell Wilson's recent interview…
