  • Is it stack with other offers like Cashrewards shopback or shopback+Westpac?

  • +58

So far, I resisted joining any buy now pay later scheme.

    Will not budge.

    I remain undefeated.

    • +14

      I'll stand with you brother.

      • +8

        And me!

        • +13

          And my axe!

          And me three!

          • +3

@Thrifty Dan: Stay strong brothers! I shall join you on this BNPL avoidance.
They can take out emails for spam but they will never take out financial FREEEEEEDOOOM!!!!

    • +1

      And my sword

      • +3

        And my credit card

er. okay imma sit this one out.

    • +2

Why though? It's just like another credit card. Budget well and purchase within your means, so you can take advantage of the good offers.

Unless you can't do that and/or don't own a credit card for a similar reason, then fair enough.

      • +2

It's as bad as personal loan from a credit perspective.

It may leave a dent in your credit history that takes years to recover, affecting other credit application

All depends on your individual circumstances. YMMV.

For small amounts of savings that may affect my credit card churning, I would avoid…

    • Good on ya.
I don’t like Brussel sprouts. Never have never will.

    • I'm with you brothers and sisters!

  • +1

Does spot apply a hard credit inquiry on your credit report when joining up?

    • +5

According to the post simplerick linked to below, it looks like it does.

    • +5

Most likely and decrease Ur mortgage borrowing power if not mistaken.

      • +1

Seems like it decreases your score by 50pts

        • +3

Didn't know I could sell my credit score for $1/pt

    • I learned the hard way, TGG's paypal promo last month.

  • +2

    Didn't get approved😑😔

    • lol. same. didn't even specify reason, is it the identity verification or credit score? haha. anyway, saved me some time to worry about maintaining

  • +2

Nothing excludes buying a gift card?

    • Can you try and let us know?

      • If I get approved…

        • Nope, failed approval

  • +1

    Didn't get approved either :-(

  • +7

$50 is not worth dropping your credit score :) especially if you end up getting rejected

    • -2

They didnt do a credit check for me

      • Part of the first step they will.

      • They will do credit enquiry. I have Spot account and they checked hard enquiry.

        • Signed up for an account last week and nothing on my credit file

          • @easternculture: wait for more. Your report will have it soon. I had same.

          • @easternculture: How do you check your credit file.
I've been signing up to a bunch of stuff and unsure how to keep track of ky credit score

            • @michael9865: Credit savvy .

              Belongs to commbank

              • +1

@easternculture: I also got email from Credit Savvy / Finder/ GetCreditScore. Credit Savvy and Finder credit score is from Experian and GetCreditScroe is from Equipfax. Equifax credit score is more detailed.
Equifax report has credit qneuiry for SPOT. Finder/Credit savvy doesn't have credit enquiry for SPOT. But, both reports have SPOT account information (credit limit etc).

  • I was wondering if all these BNPL offerings are bad for credit score, similar to credit card applications, mortgage pre-approvals, etc.

    • Yes, it appears in your credit history as a credit check, which can have a negative impact on your score.

  • Credit check for $50 versus credit check for several thousand in reward points (credit card offers) which effectively become at least a few hundred dollar, the choice should be simple.

    • +1

      You can do both….

  • +4

    Not approved lol.

  • +2

I'm still waiting for BNPN, Buy Now Pay Never

    • -1

That is called stealing. Although I don't know how you would do it buying online

  • +5

didn't get approved despite having credit score in the high 1100 with no debts and always paid on time credit card.

    • You are not their preferred clientele

    • how can you check credit score without affecting it?

      • +2

You can ask for a credit report free once a year with any of the reporting agencies.

There are also two free services that will show your credit score and history - CreditSavvy and GetCreditScore. They get their data from different reporting agencies so will have different data.

Please keep in mind that both these services collect your data for marketing purposes, you can see clearly when you log in that there's a bunch of ads for loans etc, so keep that in mind if you don't want that to happen.

        • or you can get them for free every 3 months directly from the agencies.

Experian – go to site, fill in details, Report will be sent to email in 10 days

Equifax – Register & login to site with user/pwd and download report

Illion - Register & login to site with user/pwd and download report

      • +1

Another option is ClearScore - https://app.clearscore.com that pulls scores from both Illion and Experian.

      • I have equifax 1 year free from Optus….. Unfortunately

    • +4

Yeah, I have a score in the 1000 range, no missed repayments on anything and I got rejected. Wonder how that works. Oh well, guess they don't want me as a customer.

      • They don't want you to repay duh

  • Tell me to go to the app (as im a Citibank customer) for a quicker process but then I have no idea where to go?

    Anyone else?

    • +1

Theres a tab on your home screen in the App to apply for it…basically re-do the application from the App. Just went through and it got approved instantly

      • Thank you! Approved

  • Didn't get approved. Chatted online. I previously applied for a CitiBank account when briefly living overseas. They mucked up the address for the card to be sent to, so ended up closing the account. Suggestion was this was why I didn't get approved.

    • Does this mean there are negative events that get flagged in your credit report that isn't visible to us? That's a bit odd, I thought the whole point of the credit report was so you could see everything that affected it and ask for corrections if there's any incorrect data.

  • +1

Looks like a credit product that will impact your rating. $50 isn't enough compensation for this.

  • +1

    I wasnt approved too

  • +3

not approved lol. Do they grab their 1c back?

  • How can we do the payment? I can not see any option on the checkout for a spot buy now, pay later option. I received MasterCard from the spot so can we add it as credit card payment?

  • Didnt accept my heritage bank acount for deductions. Ahh well.

  • Not approved. The quiz questions were random and unrelated at all. the heck

  • +1

The irony of worrying about your credit score is that you intend on having a positive score so you can maximise your mortgage and borrow more.

The contradiction with that thinking is you're probably conservative enough to have a large deposit for a home or utilise the Gov guarrantee. So then lenders don't really care about your score in the end.

But because you spend cash now instead of leveraging off smart credit you end up costing yourself more.

Borrow less now borrow more later…..

  • +4

Unfortunately, we are unable to approve your application. For more information please refer to our FAQs.

    • +2

      Same.

  • For the purpose of these terms and conditions “Eligible Items” refers to any item purchased on Amazon.com.au (via desktop, mobile browser or the Amazon Shopping App) but excludes digital purchases such as e-books, subscriptions such as Prime video and Audible, gift wrapping and postage or delivery rates, and payments for Prime Subscriptions.

So physical gift card is ok

    • +1

Same question. How does spot buy now pay later work as a payment option at checkout? I got a digital card from Spot.

      • I've got the same question about how to pay at checkout. I've added the card to my Amazon wallet but it won't let me pay with it (and I know that it works elsewhere) 🤷‍♀️

    • +1

I'm on the fence about using it…because there's no way of verifying you will get the $50 gift card on the other end if you do buy something eligible :/ Eye-ing a pair of Airpods 2 for the parents so will hit the spend amount

      • +2

Bought $100 physical GC, screenshot the t&c

        • There's no way for the buyer to prove they're re the first 3000 that are eligible - and Amazon can deny based on that

  • It's rejecting everyone? Even if you manage to get in, it seems Amazon still hasn't added it as a payment option, and you will have to wait until after the promotion ends for them to check that you haven't returned anything to receive the gift card.

  • +2

Got approved instantly. I have a Citi credit card and applied via app not sure if that makes any different.

    • nope, it doesn't. Have a citi credit card with a 10k and still got rejected

  • +1

Also not approved, like a lot of people here. I have an excellent credit score as well.

  • How to use this to pay though? No option for Spot.

    • You need to go through Citi apps and get your card details and add manually…

      • I See. I was thinking it works like ZIP that you need to sign in. How can Amazon tells it's Spot not just another Master card?

        • +1

They will know, if you add to debit/ credit, it will obtain logo of your bank issuer, in this case, spot card… so they should know?

  • Ordered Fire TV Cube will cost around $38 (paid $109)- using the spot buy now pay later ($50)- Cashback rewards $5 & 15% cashback on Amazon product (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/786959)

    • Didnt think of that. However i dont like the amazon tv stick 4k.

Does the TV cube allow download of games

  • Let us know if you can buy $100 gift card (eg Amazon GC or Ultimate Eats) and get the bonus $50

    • Ive just done it. Won't know till 60 days

    • +1

Digital , no as per terms and conditions
      Physical, should qualify

      • Damn, guess I'll buy another just incase…

        • For the purpose of these terms and conditions “Eligible Items” refers to any item purchased on Amazon.com.au (via desktop, mobile browser or the Amazon Shopping App) but excludes digital purchases such as e-books, subscriptions such as Prime video and Audible, gift wrapping and postage or delivery rates, and payments for Prime Subscriptions.

          • @easternculture: great idea, gonna do this, i loaded up a tonne on amazon credit but nothing to buy unfortunately.

Update: spoke to support, they said once the card is delivered successfully I will be eligible. Physical gift card is the way lol

            • @ULT: Yep. There are always loopholes if you fully read T&C.

            • @ULT: Physical GC dispatched.
Lets see if i get the $50.

              • @easternculture: nice, i get mine tomorrow, they said theyd send the code within 60 days of promo ending so waiting game for us now

  • I was approved. Amazon chat said I'm eligible so we'll see where it goes from there.
