  • How does this work exactly? You put your phone details and they decide what the trade in value will be and provide you the discount? Or is it a fixed discount for any working phone (which seems unlikely)?

Guessing they don't have an option to trade in broken screen ones like some other brands?

Its a fixed discount just like the previous x5 and x5 pro deal

      • I don't think it's a discount… I mean it's what it says, a trade-in. You are only discounted based on the trade-in value of your phone. (https://trade-in.oppoaustralia.com.au/)

A lot of people see what they want to see, but it's not necessarily the case.

Even if it says it's discounted for the $x amount, I'm pretty sure Oppo can send you a separate invoice on your debts.

        • It doesn't matter what the value of the trade in phone is. This is separate from their regular trade in system just like this deal. See the comments for all the those who bought it and received what they wanted to see. Believe what you want to.

I started reading through the T+Cs wondering if my old tablet would be a valid trade in, and it doesn't seem to specify exactly what constitutes a "device". I just submitted a trade-in request with the old device described as "Sharp EL-531TH" which as far as I can see meets all of their requirements.

It's owned by me, I have a receipt for it, it's not lost or stolen, it doesn't have a blocked IMEI number (or any IMEI number for that matter), it is working and all original, it isn't locked, doesn't contain any personal information and isn't signed into any accounts.

The form happily accepted it and gave me the $499 pricing. It does ask you to confirm that the device powers on, so I doubt that you would get away with substituting a brick or a ham sandwich, but by the letter of the terms, it seems like almost anything electronic is fair game.

I'm personally not going to try it, but if anyone else wants to bet $600 on their ability to argue technicalities with a CS rep, please let us know how it goes.

    • (ii) we receive your Eligible Device and it does not meet the criteria for an Eligible Device or is not as described by you (as determined by us in our reasonable opinion), then, OPPO may charge you for the full amount of value of the Trade-in Code that was applied to the purchase of your New Device. We will use reasonable efforts to notify you prior to applying such charges of the amount to be charged and the reason(s) why the amount is being charged.

      Not a good idea.

I agree it's probably not a good idea unless you want to gamble $600 as I said, but based on everything i could find it does meet all the criteria and would be as described.

I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time an ozbargainer tried to take advantage of a vendor poorly defining their terms.

  • Any device is fine as long as it's as described / ticked off by yourself. I put in my iPhone 4S for the X5 Pro & got approved like many others on the previous deal, from what I read on that deal everyone has been happy thus far. Don't forget Oppo aren't losing as much as you may think, they're just not making as much as they intended, plus these devices are a yr plus old now.

  • got the x5 pro, have to say it surprised me on how good the phone is. Charging is phenomenal (is this actually safe?)

    • Yupe should be very safe but after a year or so, battery wont hold charge as much.

      • ah that makes sense, probably 'downgrade' it a little using my 30w charger instead haha

  • How quickly you are getting the code, its been 20 mins havent recieved any code

    • +2

it gets applied when you submit trade in and add the device to the cart. during checkout you will see the code

      • Can't see any codes nor any messages full price in the checkout

        • hmm not sure, that's how it was before, might have changed or something went wrong when you are checking out (incognito?)

      • +1

Thanks i can see the code while checking out.

  • Is this a 5g phone?

  • could you use a pre paid visa or wise card with only the amount of the phone in case they wanted to charge you extra it would be declined?

  • @alvian what does this mean? The link says access denied
