Bruh just buy a $10 heatsink lol

        • For PS5 I think it will be a bit more expensive than $10 as the usual ones are too big to fit into PS5.

  • +1

I need to install in a Thinkpad T490s. Online posts explain that heatsink removal is possible, but Samsung Chat support just confirmed removing from this model voids their warranty.

I hesitated too long on non-heatsink model and missed my window.

I assume anyone who bought from last deal is returning and swapping with Prime. If, instead, anyone in Brisbane area wants to swap, I can buy a heatsink version (will use a cashback prime day promo) and happy to exchange as I don't need a heatsink. PM if interested

  • Samsung 980 PRO M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD with Heatsink will fit into Acasis enclosure ? has anyone done or know about it.

    Thaanks

    • It wont fit. Most, if not all NVME enclosures are made to fit SSDs with tight tolerance as they come included with thermal pad.

Advisable to check the compatibility table from their official website as certain models such as Samsung 970 Evo Plus has compatibility risk when use with Mac systems for one of their thunderbolt enclosure products. USB-C 10Gbps model wise also have to check the compatibility table (if any) for the enclosure model you are interested in to confirm that issue mentioned above does not apply to 980 pro and/or if operating system compatibility issue.

I have this one with a heatsink in an Acasis enclosure and it doesn’t fit. But since I just use the enclosure on my desk I use it without the cover on. The SSD might also run cooler like that I’m guessing

Bugger I got the non heatsink deal and one of these https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005439551523.html

Bought one because of the up votes.

      Take my upvote.

  • This or 990 Pro 2Tb @ $217? Is that worth $50 xtra bux?

    • -2

100% NO .. also the 980 Pro uses MLC nand.. vs TLC nand on the 990 Pro..

So the 980 Pro should last longer due to more durable technology even though both have the same lifetime rating

      • +3

        Isn’t 980 Pro also TLC?

        • +1

Technically speaking, 980 pro’s is ‘3 bit MLC, which tell you it is TLC, TBH…

2 bit is multi level cell
3 bit is tlc, but Samsung call it another way for 980 pro. In comparison, 970 pros use MLC (2 bit), which is what MLC originally means (before TLC and QLC were invented?)

2 storeys or 3 storeys car park, they are all ‘multi-level’ parking’.

You can even call QLC as ‘4-bit MLC, if you wish…My 2 cents.

  • Is this heatsink version better for using in an enclosure? Or is the non heatsink version better for that?

    • Heatsink version may not fit in an enclosure

      • Thanks. Does this mean heatsink version may also be unsuitable for laptops?

        • Yes, depending on the clearance inside the laptop - if it's a superthin ultraportable, unlikely the heatsink version will fit due to the added height of the heatsink

    • I have the heatsink version in an Acasis enclosure and I just don’t put on the enclosure cover. It works for me since I just work on a desk

  • thinking of buying a PS5, already contemplating buying this SSD. thought the 1TB deal was good but this is just incredible.

    • i bought this without having a ps5, will get a ps5 when it drops more

        • +1

Good enough price for me I think, dont want the hassle for looking for a drive when i get a ps5.

  • WHAT. A 1 TB one cost me $180 last year.

  • Yeah dunno what to do with my 1TB ssd 😢

    • +1

Get a case for it and then you'll have a 1TB external.

      • That's a good idea, I could always keep the ps5 videos on there.

Though the ssd has a heatsink on it, I'll have to look for one that suits

  • PlayStation 5 upgrade time!

  • I've got the ASUS ROG Strix G513. is this compatible with my laptop??

  • Bloody hell I bought a 1TB last year for $200. This is a great deal.

    • As apposed to the people who purchased a RTX3060Ti or RX6700XT $1000 In another year the normal price for a 2Tb 980 Pro will be $140 if they are still even being produced.

  • 4b would be ideal but I just bought anyway. Too cheap to pass up

  • Do we still need the latest firmware on those drives or does it only affect those 980pros made from 2021?

    • Affected batch has firmware numbers start with 3, 4 and 5 are good.

  • Thanks OP. Starting my new mid-range new build with this SSD.

    • and welcome to the queue for a Graphic card…

      • I put on my blinkers and managed to ignore all the bells and whistles for all the other components. Ended up getting the rest of the whole system in 2 hours.

  • Anyone getting "Failed to claim the deal" when adding to cart?

    • Like OOS/OOSS (sale/promotion stock)

  • Missed it by 1 minute bugger

    • Which is ironic as I was waiting Amazon to cancel my order as I wanted the SK Hynix Platinum P41 instead and in the end, Amazon declined my order cancellation request.

  • Same. Waited too long to pull the trigger

    • Yup here too

    • i only just saw it and added straight away, there is a non heatsink for $179

      • This one is back up at $167.07

  • I bought 1 TB one for $320 in march 2021. Will wait for 4TB prices to come down a bit more.

    • This is the cheapest this will likely ever be, the new pcie 5 ones are coming out later this year.

  • +2

It's back to $167. Managed to get one.

    • +1

Cheers! Saw this and managed to get an order in myself just now

  • +1

Bought one just in time. With this many + votes it couldn't possibly be a poor choice, right? right.

    • Well.. You put your files on it and it should last at least 10 years… by that time its size and use would be over and would be easy to replace with something cheaper and way faster

  • I was about to pay and phone rang, missed out 🤬🤬🤬

  • got one.. hopefully it gets fulfilled

  • $455.29 now?! Who would pay that price for it?

    • Absolute bargain haha

    • If you think about it… I know some people who are rich and when they want something they just buy it…
They dont even look at the price…

I had a friend walk into a car dealership and buy a new $45k car…. I asked him how much discount did he haggle.. he didnt even know he could haggle the price down or get extras… :)

I told him when i went in to buy my new car.. I asked them how much they said $28000 drive away.. I ended up paying $21000 with tinting, mats, premium white plates and window shields included HAHA on 45k care he could of saved even more then me

Price is $250 at this link

      https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09JHKSNNG/ref=ppx_yo_d…

      • I sometimes buy stuff at RRP too but I mean at $455.29, one could go straight to a retail shop and buy Aus stock and leave with $100 change. No need to buy US stock or wait for delivery.

  • 3 left at $167 now.

  • Price is back to $167 but not going through?

    • Showing back to ‘normal’ price of $455.29 for me.

      • someone is definitely updating the page $421 regular price but failing to claim the deal
Update: got a confirmation email but I never shaw the checkout page 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

        • Is the order now showing under ‘Your Orders’ page? If so, then you’re good.
It’s now showing $167.07 again and have 5 left in stock.

Mine arrived today, just checking firmware is up to date (it was out of the box) before I put it in my Ps5 😁

    • Got mine too! How did the firmware look? Mine has a production date of 11/05/2023 so hoping its okay since checking will be a pain

  • Got it yesterday, Installed in PS5. Works amazing.

  • Took me awhile to pull the sides off the PS5 without thinking I would break it, God damn, but the SSD is stupidly fast. AWESOME!

    • Did you check the firmware of your ssd before installing it?

      • +1

No, I didn't, just installed it. After it formatted, it said something about the speed like 6512 mb/s.

  • All, A question on this as a first time user. Received mine a couple days ago and went ahead to use it with a ugreen enclosure, which is simultaneously ordered, for usage with my laptop. But this does not fit into it the enclosure due to the heat sick. I have read comments above saying, heat sink can be removed, but there is a sticker on the heat sink which says "warranty void if removed". Any tips here folks?
