  • What lead recommended for refills?

I remember my teacher had this and I was fascinated by the ability to sharpened the lead of a mechanical pencil

Wow, a blast from the past, I haven't seen these in a long time!

I suggest you don't get this and buy it from Officeworks. It's only $42 there, for one pencil.

I'm going to buy this even though I don't need it.

    This is the way.

    • I have ice in my freezer , it's made from water ! Would like to buy some ?

  • Would these be good for primary school kids? Or too heavy and burdensome?

    • If they look like a bit of a artist or are a bit heavy handed when writing, it could be ideal, otherwise I'd go with a more common 0.5mm mechanical pencil (no need to sharpen, cheaper at normal prices). Regardless, I'm sure a school kid would enjoy using it.

    • Clutch pencil ~15g
Basic plastic Uni kuru-toga 0.5 ~10g < best for school kids, imo
Wooden pencil with eraser top ~7.5g

There are exceptions of course. rOtring 600 mech weighs a ton, but a Caran d'Ache Fixpencil clutch is all metal but weighs only 8g. However I agree with the OP, avoid expensive heavy drafting pencils for school kids.

But at $6.30 ea. this is a great bargain…
