The game score composer slipped and mentioned a new version coming out, might want to wait if you still somehow have not gotten to play the game yet. I don't see how much improvement they can make for "remaster" tho. The game is already 60fps 1440p on PS5 via backward compatibility.

PS might be interesting if they do some sort of director's cut or different cut of the game's pacing, because the game's pacing and chapter orders are piss poor and really hinders the impact of the story in the original imo.

    • -1

No doubt Naughty Dog will sell the remaster for $80-$100 at launch just like Part 1.

It's funny to think that the last original release from Naughty Dog was Part 2 in 2020. Since then, they've done the Legacy of Thieves Remaster, Part 1 Remaster and now the Part 2 Remaster.

      • I don't remember how to post spoilers so I could say why, but I wish they would change the ending.

        • -4

Or: I wish they would remove the Remastered Abby.

      • +1

Part 1 is a remake, not a remaster

    • +2

I'm guessing the "new version" will just be the PC release

    • Crazy that a remaster is coming out only 3 years after release. Maybe its a director's cut similar to GoT with improved visuals.

      • Yeah, made more sense for Part 1 going between the PS3 and PS4 gens with no backwards compatibility, but playing this version on a PS5 is already fantastic.

        • +4

But it doesn't make use of any of the PS5 features. So while it's inevitably being updated for PC release, makes sense to make a PS5 version too with haptics, adaptive triggers, 3D audio, SSD faster loading, trophy cards etc…

It's also a good opportunity for B and C teams to learn the new features while the primary team is already cooking away on something new elsewhere.

  • Does this game still make sense if you havent played part 1?

    • +10

You can get by if you've watched the series, but part 1 is amazing and you definitely should play it.

    • +14

      Play part 1

      • +1

Just finished it and loved it. Now I am contemplating playing part 2 or waiting for the re-remake

        • Wait, if for nothing else but to take a spacer for greater enjoyment

    • +4

I think it would, but part 1 is the stronger title so I’d play that first anyway. Playing 2 first will spoil the first title in some respects I feel if you decide to go back to it later.

FWIW I played the PS4 remaster last year and then months later the PS5 release. The PS4 one holds up well visually and is perfectly playable so it’s pretty viable to just play that release if you find it much cheaper and don’t want to pay for the PS5 re-release.

    • +4

No. Absolutely play part 1 first.

    • +3

You could just watch season 1 with a Binge trial, it covers the first game.

    • +1

I played 2 without even playing part 1. I got the game for promotional price and i wanted to sell it on ebay but then I decided to watch recap of the first part on youtube. Started playing part 2 and it was a great experiance. Best game I have played. Close to a perfect game for me.

      • +1

agreed, one of the best I've played.

        • -5

Then you clearly haven't played any other games

      • +1

The more I like 1 the more I hate the 2.
Many 1 lovers feel the exact same way.

        • The more I like 2 the more I love 1.

    • Play Part 1 first. Rage later after Part 2.

    • +2

Part 1 was better in every way, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by skipping the first.

    • It's just a game, it's fine to play part 2 if you haven't played part 1.

There is no need to watch the entire TV series, the plot is available on wikipedia:

Was $12 on Amazon 8 months ago

      np :)

  • Thanks, just purchased!

I've always been a PC gamer but after trying The Last of Us and Uncharted on PC, I just had to get a PS5 for these awesome storyline based single player games.Playing through FF16 at the moment, but a bit dissapointed with the performance (only 30fps on 4K and quite jittery at times). God of War though is absolutely brilliant.

    • I tried to play FF16 on the visual mode, but stuck with performance, which still has stutters mainly in town but combat has been smooth.

      • Yeah same here - had to change it to performance mode to get higher FPS to make the game more playable. I hope they patch it for 4K 60FPS soon.

    • i can only play house and keyboard - playing this game or any other shooter like RE4 with a controller is a real pain, its so easy with a mouse
I def want to play pt2 but will wait for PC

After playing this game recently I sold Tears of the Kingdom and my switch - this game, especially its story of hope and forgiveness, runs rings around Tears of the Kingdom.

    • +2

Amazing. Everything you just said is wrong.

    • +1

      Ermm, okay? Cool story.

    • +5

      It’s OK to like both…

  • -3

A fantastic game with an even better story. I recommend diving straight into the sequel.

    • -1

A terrible game with an objectively worse story. I recommend avoiding the sequel at all cost.

  • Is this worth getting with the ps5 version coming soon?

I've only played the start of the first 1 first remaster

  • I have the PS3 version but haven't played it yet. I don't have a PS4, but this constant remaster business is making me wonder if I should be drinking the cool aid and spending wads of cash on upgrading. On one hand I could get a s/h PS4 for probably a hundred something, and the game for this price, or I could go whole hog to PS5. Having said that I am playing Uncharted 1 for the first time on PS4 and it's fine.

Reason for all the above is I'm on xbox mainly so missed much of the exclusive on PS, my PS purchases have all be dirt cheap so cost me next to nothing

    • I have the PS3 version but haven't played it yet.

Problem is The Last of Us Part 2 is only available on PS4 (playable on PS5 through backward compatibility).

      • Sorry should have been more specific, last of us 1 is what I was talking about, the series in general really

  • Nope…. Just waiting for the PSVR2 part 1 & 2 port.

  • +1

feel like this thing has been $19 for 5 years

  • very good game

    • very bad game*

  • any deal for The last of us Part 1 ps5?

  • -1

    Trash game

Bought 5 copies for family and friends. Also bought an extra 2 copies that I will keep sealed. This game will be worth a lot in years to come.

    • PS5 version (or the so called remastered version) is coming. Not exactly sure why it is taking years for Naughty Dog to do Factions. There will also be PC version later on. $9 was the all time low for this game. This game does not retain value because too many people have or had it or played it.

When I traded in my copy last year, EB only offered me $6, and I was on Level 5.
