Can't agree with how much the RRP has gone up lately, but looking at what is entirely cosmetic damage on a non-visible area, this absolutely looks like a great deal.

    • -5

Surely it can' the hard for China to cone this chair by now?

      • +3

"As President and CEO at MILLERKNOLL INC, Andi R. Owen made $4,984,838 in total compensation." (2022)
"$1,292,452 was received as a bonus"

Ouch… Very "(profanity) you, got mine" vibes..

        • +7

You have to leave pity city, honey. Now go find me another $26mil so I can get bigger bonus.

          • +3

            @kaitoivan: Hahaha, literally.

'Stop worrying about your own bonuses and focus on making sure I get mine!'

      • +4

Wow, that is one disgusting person. It's strange because, with their aggressive pricing ever since covid, the profit margin for these chairs should have already been off the scale, can't imagine that's how they choose to treat their own staff when they are making loads.

    • -3

Yeh the RRP is one of those "never buy at RRP" prices. I bought my Aeron years ago for around $1300 new.

Not hard to find at around the $1300+ price, for example a quick google returns this result: https://www.maccityaustralia.com.au/products/herman-miller-a…

      • +6

I paid $1,790 + Postage for mine in July, 2021, RRP at the time, and while it was a lot, given it was completely brand new with full warranty, I still found it to be completely worthwhile.
Exact same chair, 2 years later, $2,655 RRP, insanity..

        • I corrected in another reply, but my chair is actually a Mirra 2, not Aeron, but the point remains.

I bought my Mirra 2 from Living Edge in Sydney for $1150 in 2015. Exact same chair is now $2180.

        • +1

I paid $1690 in Jan 2021, but was able to price match it using 28deg to $1590 in June 2021.
They're great - also bought a size A Aeron for the wife too. She loves hers as well.

      • +4

        That's for a refurbished chair

      • +6

That is a refurbished chair and it's not the remastered so that RRP is wrong.

        • +1

          You're right, it's refurbished.

And I double-checked my own chair… another correction in order:

My chair is not an Aeron, but a "Mirra 2". I paid $1150 new, from Living Edge back in 2015 when Living Edge were in Surry Hills Sydney. The same chair is currently listed on their site for $2180 (link), more than $1000 more than what I paid, identical configuration (arms, butterfly suspension, graphite base).

So the point remains. RRP has been jacked up beyond belief.

          • @cerealJay: I think it's a mix of that + Inflation. I mean how much was fuel back in 2015?

            • @MrMoo: Inflation accounts for less than $150 of that price difference on the chair between 2015 and now.

Petrol's increase since 2015 is because of other factors. If you look at historical petrol prices, it was around $1.40 - $1.50 in 2008, 2012, and 2014. I paid $1.65 the other day, but it's gone up again now.

      • +1

Refurbished, not the Remastered version, and no Herman Miller warranty..

  • when was the manufacturing date? warranty usually starts from the purchase date?

  • +34

Off topic but, damn I hate sites that hijack the back button.

    • My my ad blocker is blocking it, but I can't see the redirect.

  • +7

Oooft, very, very tempting. That said, I'm sitting on a 10+ year old Steelcase Leap V2 that I bought second hand for $175 that still works great - so don't really know if it's worth the upgrade.

    • +4

I don't think it's worth the upgrade from a Steelcase Leap V2. Some people even prefer that chair over the Aeron, depends on your body type.

      • Yeah, i have an Aeron at home (for 20 years now!) and a Leap V2 at work.. I prefer the Aeron, but the Leap is very good.. not sure i'd be justifying it as a $1250 upgrade.

    • +3

Yup, and you've got Haworth chairs like the Zody and the Fern going for cheaper than this B-stock price as well, and their own used markets.

You just don't see them pop up as readily when you do incredible product research like 'best chair 2023'.

      • +1

        Fern is a brilliant chair

    • +2

I've also been super happy sitting on a used Steelcase Leap V2 I purchased for <$150 at a dodgy looking warehouse (which I found off Gumtree) 5 years ago… It has been the best chair I've used hands down. Hard to justify paying anything more honestly. :P

    • a Leap Retail is $1,503 AUD https://au.steelcase.com/products/steelcase-leap?variant=356…
where are people finding used for under $200?

      • Probably a copy of the Leap chair.

    • I swap between my steelcase leap v2 and aeron from time to time, they feel very different but i enjoy sitting on them equally

      • +3

        nice flex

        • ty sir, they call me daddy lumba

  • Wouldn't be surprised if it sold out by the end of today.

    • Wouldn't be surprised if it sold out within 30 mins of being posted, yet still says 88 in stock.

      • +4

I'd assume that the website quantity is only updated after the order is processed on their end. Going by how sophisticated Australian retailer CRM's are, I'd say that it has to be done manually.

Once someone gets around to it, there'll likely be more than 88 sold in that timeframe, and there will be people notified of a cancellation of their order.

        • +1

Just got off the phone with a support agent to confirm my order … she said about "half had sold"

          • +1

@rekke: Looks like I was wrong, the quantity only updates once you add it to your cart. Strange system.

Seems like there's less than 20 left now. Gotta be quick if you're on the fence now.

  • +2

Thanks OP! I was almost about to pull the trigger for a new one at $2000 a couple of months ago but I didn't.

At this price I'll gladly take it with the damage on the underside.

  • +1

Thanks purchased one, even though my 2 years old secretLab still in great condition.

  • Bought this new for that price maybe 2 years ago!

    • +1

Yeah, they doubled the price through covid. Will be interesting to see if it falls with the work from home furniture buying spree winding down.

    • +2

Not that recently, unless you got a crazy deal. They were $1600-1700 RRP pre-covid then went up like a rocket during WFH.

    • Doubt it, two years ago was right in the middle of COVID. Sale pricing would have been ~$1600 at best

      • I can show you the receipt. Got a Mirra 2 for a bit less. Just need to negotiate!

        • +1

Thanks for sharing it with the community 2 years ago

  • People buying yet it still says 88 in stock…

  • +1

$1250 was the RRP when I bought it about 10 years ago. I paid $900 during a EOFY sale.

  • A scratch reduces the prices by 1k

  • +1

How will they be shipped? Reboxed or wrapped? The latter can mean they get bumped around.

  • +1

They had to write down 88 chairs by $1400 due to shipping damage? Some guy in warehouse is probably brushing up his CV.

    • I don’t think it was shipping damaged exactly.

Maybe they were mounted in a display for an event then sent back “unused” so technically new. The chair were definitely mounted, possibly on a non standard mount.

      • +1

They wouldn't have 88 'new' units unboxed. The chairs are also pre-assmbled.

  • Thank you OP. I have one that I purchased second hand - going to buy this and resell my old one as HM warranty only applies to the original purchaser. Will be nice to have it in all black, ahem, Onyx, too!

  • Good find, ordered!

  • whopping deal….

  • +13

F*** it, bought 1. One of those open OzBargain and accidentally spend over 1k days I guess…

    • Enjoy.

    • +2

In ten years time you're going to look back at this with zero regrets.

  • Quantity Available is still 88 after 25 mins.

If the number is real - did they 'damage' the chairs on propose so they have a good excuse to drop the price? Like the 'demo' cars of BMW or Mercedes nowadays.

    • They probably just have some ghetto backend system that requires manual input.

    • There’s 49 left now. It only updates when press the plus button to add 1 to the cart.

      • Oh I see the updated number - 14 left now

  • Anyone know if these are the remastered or classic version?

    • +2

      Remastered.

    • Haven't been able to get the classic for years. The remastered are cheaper in look and feel. Honestly the ergohuman V2 are better than the remaster in quality. I've got access to all 3 at work and grabbed a ergohuman for home.

      • +1

I tried HM in store and was surprised that the build quality did not reflect the high price tag. If you prefer style over function then I guess this hits the mark but the mesh design was too firm for my liking.

  • +4

Anyone willing to split? 6month timeshare.

    • -1

WHY STOP AT 6, LETS GO 4MTHS EA.

      I DIBS JUNE—SEPTEMBER

  • Thanks. ordered!

  • +1

Thank you for the post OP! Nearly bought one at EOFY, lucky I didn't.

  • Perfect timing, I need a new office chair.

  • 30% cash back brings it under 1k enjoy

    • +2

      Where's the cashback from?

    • what do you mean?

    • How?

    • what cashback?

    • +1

      Tax concession?

    • That would be 32.5c on the dollar rather than 30c. You also need to depreciate it over several financial years, so it's going to take time to claw back your "cashback".

      • +1

Starting July 2024 it will be 30c which perhaps is what he is referring to

        • I forgot about those - I suspect they will be pulled considering the latest Parliamentary Budget Office costings anyway. Too much of a structural deficit with no willingness to change rorts like the aged pension.

      • several financial years

        isn't furniture like 20 years ?

    • USERNAME & PFP CHECKSOUT …

  • +2

Insane deal. Was just about to pick one up from Marketplace this arvo for $1,350. Cheers OP!

  • +4

I hope everyone buying has actually tried sitting on one first, rather than simply relying on hype.

Everyone has different body shapes, so it's best to try sitting on different chairs to find your ideal chair.

    • +1

At this price …. they could probably sell it for more than they bought it tbh…. the damage is basically unnoticeable after assembly (photos seen in the listing). I've sat in it myself and it is really an incredible chair.

But the warranty from buying it through Living Edge is what makes this an insane deal, people are selling the Aeron around this price second hand with no warranty, and that are 10+ years old for the same price as this deal.

    • Screw that, just buy it and sell it for more if you don't like it.

This chair is absolutely amazing imo.

  • +3

I bought a Steelcase Leap, but the sentiment remains the same - if you can afford a good chair like this one (and it suits you), just buy it - Had mine for coming up on 9 years now and there's not a thing wrong with it.

Getting off that treadmill of having to go back to Officeworks or whatever every couple of years after your current chair has finally broken to the point that it's unusable is such a relief.

Less waste, worry and money in the long run.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Bought one - these things are going to cost $5000 by 2030.

  • damn all gone

  • Damn, that went fast
