Non-Members can Shop & Pay In-Store with a Costco Gift Card (Membership Required to Buy Gift Card) @ Costco

2620

Good morning everyone! I didn't know this [hack] existed. I am not a Costco Member, so I have found this information useful.

So a Member can "gift" you a Gift Card and apparently Non Members can visit Costco without Membership and use the Gift Card.

I haven't seen this posted anywhere. I thought it's useful information for people like me that don't have a Membership.

Shop Cards can only be purchased in a warehouse by current members.
At this point, Australian cards can only be used in Australian warehouses, excluding all fuel stations, food court self-serve kiosks and any eCommerce transactions.

  • It's about time to get Gift card as my membership will expired end of this month. Save me $65

    • Can you still apply for full refund on 12th month?

      • Good idea. Is there any downfall if I cancel and get refund?

        • You won't be able to sign up again for X amount of time, which X is an unknown for me.

        • Only drawback would be if you bought something that would come under warranty or need to return i.e. device, PC, Clothing, anything within a year.. if you were no longer a member, this would be void.

          • @Gavman: Not exactly, only change of mind returns and 100% satisfaction guarantee returns require you to be a current paid up member. If it is an ACL return or a warranty claim, your membership status is irrelevant.

Also Costco allows you to renew your lapsed membership on the spot and they can then do a change of mind/100% satisfaction return for you.

  • Not sure if the case here, but overseas when I used this method, at checkout they had to get a manager to process the sale of my purchase. was a pain, and took a few extra minutes every time, causing me to hold up the line as well.

    • How do they count your balance value? Or did you get the gift card purchased from that country?

      • that was a giftcard purchased in that same country. not sure how the heck you'd use an international one, that'd be interesting.

Not really a hack… a better hack is go in and BUY a membership. use it for 9-10 months as much as you want.. then when you sick of Costco for a while, go back to memberships and get a full refund of the membership. Costco have a 100% satisfaction guaranteed. If you say you not that satisfied, no questions asked.

    • that's actually quite interesting. you mean Costco allow to refund the membership in full $65 even after 9-10 months as a member? no question asked?

        yes

If you say you not that satisfied, no questions asked.

I cancelled by emailing them this link

    • I cancelled mine 11th month in, all refunded but they did ask me a few questions like why I want a refund.

  • This thread got me to sign up to Costco and drive the 20 min each way to go check it out.
Interesting place. The pizza was nice.

  • I assume this only works within the country the gift card was issued?

  • nice find!!

It's really this point in the T's & C's - Members and non-members may use the Costco Shop Cards for the purchase of merchandise, services and Costco memberships at any Costco location in Australia, excluding purchases of petrol and excluding all online purchases.

note it isn't possible for petrol or online purchases FYI

  • Can you park in their members parking lot using the gift card? Lots of them have got parking only exclusively for members.

  • Can a non-member with a gift card bring a few more people into the store with them to shop? Or only a gift cardholder can enter?

  • However, how to bypass the staffs at the entrance who asking us to show the membership?
