It'll be a bit more beneficial if you were asian.

Haha yeah.. I clicked the link and it may as well be written in Chinese for all the sense I could make of it. ;)

    Oh wait…

    • +25

of course…. all asians can understand "chinese"

      • +1

Well, The TVB mainly speaking cantonese which basically means other language for most of chinese who like me speaking mandarin.

        • Actually there are a lot of mandarin channels and even on the main cantonese channel the default language is mandarin - it looks like a lot of TVB shows have been dubbed into mandarin. I don't understand mandarin and I have to keep on changing the language…To tell the truth, despite TVB being from HK, the service has more benefit for Mandarin speakers than Cantonese speakers.

      • +8

        all asians can understand "chinese"

do all chinese understand "asian" though ?

    • +5

I dunno about you but it's all greek to me.

      • Keep your back tight up against the wall then, Disco. ;P

      • +1
        • You know, Anthony Quinn, the actor here, was not actually Greek :p but I did enjoy your sentiment!

      • What? They speak Greek there?

    • That would be like complaining that the shows are all in Chinese

  • +1

I just saw the $0 and assumed it was cheap cheap…:o)

  • +2

    $60 per month??

  • +2

    60 is still a lot. :/

  • +1

yeah…You'll still have to pay that $60 subscription even with the $399 installation

  • +14

Y U no offer adult channel?

    • +1

Cos you got the wong idea?

    • +15

No money .. no honey …

      • love u long time

        • you no VC… what do we get for ten dollars ?

    • Because it's very clean, very cheap.

  • +7

Cheap to look for a 2nd hand 2.3M C-Band Sat Dish, get receiver and setup yourself :) Got one dish myself for $25 that was lucky score though.
Theres plenty of mainland chinese free to air (40+ channels) with some Taiwan, Japanese, etc in their too.

Of course you have to subscribe to get a decoder card for popular content (depends what you want to get), but theirs plenty of free to air stuff freely accessible and theres dedicated forums that provide torrent links for freshly broadcasted popular TV series especially for Hong Kong stuff and probably korean, etc.

This is a good link to find whats free to air and whats not - http://www.lyngsat.com/

    • but you want HK channels!!!

      • why?

        • TVB of course. isn't that the point of this post

  • I dont think we should be promoting "freshly broadcasted popular TV series" on here…If u know what i mean. :o)

  • y you no sport channels?

    • -2

      Asians don't follow sports.
      Except for me.

      • What are you talking about???
        They love sports.

  • -8

Last time I heard about - & had the chance to view - a Chinese (satellite-based), it was free to view (albeit after paying a 1-off installation-fee for a larger satellite disk (on the ground)

…but there were well OVER 100 channels (still NO monthly fees).

Why is -this- service so COSTLY, by contrast, presumably over the life of the service???

I don't see this as a "deal," ie, compared to what my friends showed me.

    • +3

And…I think those people that offered the free 100 channels actually got busted by the Federal Police in association with some anti piracy company

      • +6

There are tons of free to air channels for asia/middle east regions, so no illegal piracy concerns there.. Only issue is its great if your mainland chinese heaps of free mainland china choices but if you want Hong Kong content normally you have to pay a subscription hence TVB here… Theres like only 3 free to air Hong Kong channels and they pretty much suck. Its only illegal if you use a copied decoder card to decode transmissions without subscription, but thats not worth the time or money.
BTW - Japanese NHK channel in English has great documentaries along with BBC from time to time.

      IVI is an Asian?

      • Is alwayseric a Racist? :-/

        • +5

Lol wait.. so nowadays asking if a person is a particular nationality is an indicator of a racist? Geez, political correctness is outta control these days.. smh.

        • +3

Hey hey Flippant! Don't be racist now!

        • +5

hey jasong - by judging others as racist, this makes you possibly racistist

        • ~laffn~ =)

        • Shmahoo, your avatar is racist lol

    • +1

They are different channels you can't receive these ones on the large satellite

    • +9

IVI, your -posts- are - always -a- pain TO read.

      • -4

Happy to take you outside your comfort-zone…

Snakes grow my shedding old skins (which has to be painful, I suppose) and expanding (slightly) into new ones.

Perhaps you are growing… not just "suffering" pain.

        :-)

        • IVI is a sociopath?

  • +9

Cheaper to buy a tvpad from ebay and get all those channels free

    • only cost $259, i have been using tvpad for 1 year.

      • $219 delivered now. check egay

        • Yes, I see that.

          But…

Why aren't the functions it performs just as easy to perform by a SOFTWARE-only App (for Win,
          Android and/or iPhone platforms)?

          Are there such programs already?

        • +4

          Egay? :/ I don't think I wanna watch those channels…

      • Is there a channel list for tvpad floating around?
Looks like it just collects free feeds from the net? Is it laggy?

From memory I think TVB you can view the channels online but need HK ip address. Perhaps TVPAD does that?

        • +2

just google you'll find vast amounts of info and what chans are on there.

it wasnt too laggy. it says u need 2Mbit connection at least so yeah. and if you have unlimited 20Mbit adsl this is plenty

I ordered one yesterday actually after seeing it run on my uncle's tv. they have 8Mbit adsl.

Simple to use for the old folks

        • +4

          you can visit tvpad.hk
i am using tpg right now, and i turn on 2 tvpad at the same time, it's still running good.

        • How stable is this? Does it lag/pause from time to time? I find that online streaming live TV always have lags every now and then.

        • can this play tvb from hk?

        • It does play tvb channels not sure if all, just check youtube for exmaples

        • Depend on your network, i have 7 mbps in speedtest result.

        • you never know how long the live stream can last for.

there is nothing official from TVB providing the feed, so you could end up with a $200 BRICK anytime

        • Turd,

          Did you order from here?
          http://en.tvpad.hk/tvpad/01/

          Was Paypal an option?

        • +1

I ordered from ebay. That one is expensive dont buy from there, and that one will be shipped from overseas, and price is USD. By it locally from a local ebay seller - (sni_init_trading_inc) for $218 delivered.

        • Thanks, Turd, ordered 1 from sni_init_trading_inc.

    • Thanks for letting me know about this. Seems like a great device.

    • never knew about this! thanks! saves me so much trouble looking for online streams :)

  • +2

my friend has this subscription… its just the same shows repeated a few times a day…. not worth 60 a month to me

  • +2

WTH hell is this a bargain?????

Is this for AV channels or what…

  • It'll be a bit more beneficial if you were asian

I clicked on the link and it's in chinese not Asian??

  • +2

Have they fixed up the lip-sync issue ?

    • ~dies~ =)

  • +3

I am Asian, I am Chinese…BUT I need subtitles…in English, are those movies have English subtitles.

  • +4

60, what a joke, would reject to call it a bargain even it is 60 dollars a year

  • -6

People are happy to call this "Not a Deal"… but
I don't see why you don't neg it for that reason?

(OK, so my Neg was overruled
    by an "anti-democratic mob" (above)

This is only to be expected!

Still… YMMV… so, express your disappointment
    more clearly… with a Neg already… :-)

  • anyone know where i can get tvpad2 the cheapest besides ebay as i want warranty?

if anyone has a second hand unit i'll buy it! :)

Is it possible for the video feeds to be cut off by the providers at some point, rendering the box useless?

    • Try gumtree - there's a seller in Melbourne selling them for $219.

      • I am guessing he is the Ebay seller too.

  • +1

I have tvb, for them to give $400 really is a bargain considering even moving houses, they will charge you $400 again to reinstall.

And really its not too bad, havig channels to constantly speak chinese would reduce the amout of chinese population in australia no longer capable of speaking their own language. Its sad but true.

That being said they, $60 really is overcharging lol… It was only 40 back several years ago

    • -3

      So, neg the "deal"

  • +2

Years ago it was $29 from my memory ? My friend have it. Thanks for let us know about TVPAD, first time to hear about this, that is interesting .

  • +3

Hey hey hey all…. Before you go negging my deal. Let's understand the facts of the deal.

    • $0 installation down from $399 (deal??)
    • $60 monthly subscription fee is the same regardless if u installed with $0 or $399

For those that are talking about TVPad.. I assume that it's similar to the android tv boxes that are out on the market. It's great and I have it as well. It definitely gives you plenty of Chinese channels and tvb ones… However for tvb channels, it is IP locked.so it won't work here.

    • i brought 10+ devices already for whole family and friends, I assume you are not using tvpad, that'why you dont understand. I have been using almost 1 years, the cost is only 219 / 12 months = 18.25. it looks like a bargain for those who wanna watch hong kong live tvb and news.

      • What? I thought you just buy the -device- for $219 (or whatever), and there are -no- monthly fees…?

        • One off for device , no Extra cost.

    • Gor_yee, is there a minimum commitment period for free installation? Usually when foxtel does it you need to sign a contract.

Keith, I had a look at the tvpad website and I am not sure how it works. So it is basically a $250 Android box with apps installed on it? Can't we use any Android device then? Like phone and tablet?

      • I have a cube u30gt android tablet with hdmi out is there a app i can download to run the tvpad streams??

      • They have own apps to install on it. You cant install any other apps at this moment, they may improve their own system in the future to install unoffical apps.

    • having googled TVPad, I assume you can watch live streams of TVB & ATV in Australia.

Am I assuming correct and is Gor_yee lying that you can't?

      • Yes, live TVB and ATC etc

Has a code to bring the TVpad to $199

    • Its actually US$229 with the $30 code.
$199 was for the old version

      • +2

Major Update: TVpad has made a lot of changes since I first started this thread, and I will clean up this post within the next few days to make it easier for other users to read. But for now here's the update, which is about the soon-to-be-released M121S. Pre-order begins on July 30th and ends on August 6th with a discounted price of $229 (down from $259). With the discount code 15819288 you can pre-order the unit for $199, which is the same price as the current M121 version. To pre-order the M121S, visit www.tvpadzone.com for step by step instructions. But in short, order it as if you are ordering an M121, but under "Other Request," write "I'd like to get the M121S." The M121S will be shipped globally on August 6th.

        • +3

Ends Aug 6th. Were in Sept now

It has the new price on TVpadzone now of $229 discounted already and you can't order the old version any longer

        • i have read buffering seems to be an issue when watching tvpad…

        • I thought this is a great gift for my father in law :-(
but the code bring $259 to $229(just tested), not $199 as you said?

still it's good to know, thanks for sharing!
I would buy from the $219 Melbourne Guy anyway

        • Is there a risk of Custom seizing your order?

        • for ordering an Android HTPC style Media Player?

          give me a break!

    • thanks, what is this compare to any android app - pps etc ?

  • I'm still confused about this TVpad product. Will TVpad give me access to all the HK cantonese channels (i.e. TVB dramas/soapies) that you normally get from the $60/month TVB subscription?

    • +1

Only free channels in hong kong, tvb oz got more channels and own oz program

  • Anyone with tvpad can u tell me if there is a vetnamese tvb channel?? Cos subscription has a viet channel..

    • Mainly china hong hong and same other channels

  • +1

This is the most confusing "deal" I've seen on OzBarg for a year!

Can somebody with latest TVpad & deal (ie, IF a subscription is required to make it work), please tell us the details of your arrangement, & if it's still available to the rest of us, today?

    Thanks :-/

  • +1

i dont think TVpad will be that great compared to TVB
for starters, it seems tvpad is a live stream? majority of people watch tvb for the NEW dramas, and currently TVB shows them on PRIME time the next day after it is broadcasted in HK. ( also shows it live as well at midnight)

so if you are into watching new dramas , then with tvpad you will have to wait until its PRIME time in HK and not AUSTRALIA.

    • in other word, you gotta record or watch the drama LIVE at around 10:30pm-12:30am Australia time
