2x 1kg Coffee Beans for $48.70 Delivered from Bay Beans

170

I asked James @ Bay Beans if there were any OzBargain deals coming up and he has kindly reopened the last deal - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/70465

This deal is for 1kg of espresso and 1kg of mocha or 2 x 1kg espresso or 2 x 1kg mocha.

The beans are great and can easily hold their own against the likes of Merlo & Di Bella, and for the price of $48.70 for 2kg, it's an absolute steal.

  • Impeccable timing.

  • James is da man!!!

  • Wow, that's an awesome price! Too much for me though…Any sydney-siders want do a co-op? I really only want 250grams of each.

  • Excellent deal! 250g is not enough. I buy 2Kg at a time between me and my wife and it is still not enough. Buying 4kg this time!

    • wow, how much do you drink? I read somewhere that roast beans are really only good for 2-3 weeks.

      • 2-3 weeks after grinding, surely? Coffee beans are rather robust things, I'd have thought. As long as they are stored correctly, of course.

        • Ground coffee should be used within minutes not weeks. Roasted coffee is best within a period of 7-28 days.

        • I ended just getting 1KG of mocha…can't wait.

Side note, sent an email to james about degassing and he responded within minutes. Awesome guy!

  • How long is the deal re-opened for?

    • Until Sep 16

Are these any different than from here: http://www.coffeebeanshop.com.au/buy-coffee-beans-online.htm…

Seems like a minimal saving if so.

Definitely same business…but maybe he's changing the name…not sure.

Prices are about $10 cheaper on that site though…may have to order from there when the OzBargain deal has finished. I've also removed the usual price from the title.

      Thanks for the link.

    • Nice find!

  • Minimal savings, but a saving none the less. Just got 2kg to see how good they are.

Great coffee and great customer service.

    Thanks Stix and James.

  • If the oxygen ages the beans can we fill the ziplock with CO2 to keep it longer?

    • You can buy oxygen absorbers. BUT your idea wouldn't work, simply because the beans themselves give off a gas which needs to escape, which is why the bags you buy have a valve built into them.

  • I get beans from WW/Coles for ~$12. They make good coffee ASAIK. how much better do more expensive beans taste? What's the difference?

    • And these beans from Coles, when were they roasted? The quality of coffee drops with time once they have been roasted. If ur no coffee snob then it doesnt matter. but if you like quality and taste, there is a big difference.

    • How much of a difference you can taste will depend a little on you and what sort of equipment you have at home for making coffee. If you are using pre-ground coffee and a pressurised basket then you may not notice a huge improvement. If you are grinding fresh per dose and have a machine with an unpressurised basket then you should notice a significant improvement.

I don't think preferring quality and taste necessarily makes one a coffee snob.

I really wish James would come up with a sample pack, around $10 delivered. I'd happily fork out for a couple of kilos on a regular basis if I knew I was going to like the coffee, but there's no way I'll spend $48 to risk finding that I don't.

  • WW/Coles beans are crap compared to these.
If you like your instant then go for the WW/Coles. You can sometimes get a good bag (which I do on extreme emergencies) but its a hit/miss. I ordered a few times now from BayBeans for use a home and work (coffee bean roster), and now a few others buy the BayBeans :)
I'm sure will buy a couple more kilos before this offer expires.

  • I bought the Forte from him a few weeks ago and have been very happy with the taste. He roasts them fresh so the aroma/taste is far better than any supermarket bean that has been sitting on the shelf for weeks(?) on end. I'll now try his espresso beans. I'd recommend the quality to anyone not sure.

WTH? My beans arrived this morning in VIC. That's bloody quick turnaround.

  • I have been ordering from him since about December last year. Never a single problem, orders are fast, service perfect and emails always responded too rediculously quickly. James obviously runs a small business that he wants to grow and seems to put in effort to making it work. If you roder with mates and work (say a group of 5) he does great wholesale prices everyday of the week for 10kg minimums.
