Lenovo doesn't want to replace dead pixel tablet under warranty

Remember that Lenovo tablet that was on special at ALDI for $199? and then $149? And then $99? I got 4 of them, and have no complaints, except… one of them turned up with a row of dead pixels. Still under 1-year warranty so no problem, right? Wrong. I went through all the loops and hoops with Lenovo — factory reset and all — only for them to tell me to take it back to the retailer and get it replaced. I didn't need Lenovo to do that, but I doubt ALDI will have any stock left to replace it with. Then get a refund, Lenovo said. And do what with $99?? Buy a slingshot?!

Has anyone been down this path? What do you guys (and gals!) advise?

Just take it back to the retailer and get it replaced or refunded.

So you're not happy getting your money back even though you have that option. Are you insane?

OzBargainers have a rather unique interpretation of Australian Consumer Lore

I see I'm in the minority here — of one! — but, ok, explain this to me: so manufacturers can offload fault-prone or outright defective batches onto the public — with a warranty no less! — and simply return the money to those organised enough to follow through the process of returning it months later, instead of taking the loss, at no cost to them?? Lore indeed!

          Yes?

@Drakesy: Is that fair for consumers? I thought this was a consumer-centric forum… I see now many here have sold their souls to the Dark Side 😄

              @wisdomtooth: Yes?

NGL endlessly looking for confirmation bias won't really help.

Yes. If you buy something, and it's not what it should be, you can get your money back

When 3 out of your 4 tablets are fine, what makes you think they are fault prone and defective?

Plus Lenovo does have a cost, they get back a used, broken tablet that they either need to fix or throw away. They are taking the loss.

Lenovo should compensate him for his emotional distress.

So Lenovo should mail out a teaspoon of cement for OP ?

That's not how it works, you cannot force manufacturer to replace it just because you don't want a refund.

    Your choices are:

    1. Live with the deal pixel
    2. Refund

Sooo… warranty means: "here, take my detective product till you notice it's defective, and I'll return your money if you do and go through the trouble of returning it"? Riiight… 🙄

Yes. No manufacturer will repair cheap devices. Same with TV, paddy’s Samsung went faulty, Samsung won’t repair they just refund the purchase price … and of course no TVs available as cheap as what was purchased.
Best is a refund … I understand you won’t get another tablet that cheap.

I didn't expect them to fix it (unless it were a simple matter of factory reset or firmware update — and they did have me try these!); just to mail me a replacement of same or newer.

      • +3

Yes, that is what it means.

They can either fix it, or give you your money back.

        Read your warranty terms.

You'd get a super-dooper slingshot for that price!

  • Get your money back and move on….

Not a very wise post from Op.

    Dude

  • Then get a refund, Lenovo said. And do what with $99?? Buy a slingshot?!

you spend that money on something else.

What else do you want dude? it's a $99 laptop, move on..

  • Buy a slingshot, duh

If it's the $99 one tell Aldi you paid $199 for it.

    Win win.

  • +4

If they give you $99 back and you used it for several months, you got several months out of a laptop for literally free.
You cant even rent a tablet that cheaply

  • What if Aldi have stock to replace?

    • Then I'll take it, ofc.

  • +1

Seriously take the money and move on!!!!!!

  • Bought 4 but one 1 faulty

    Statistically correct

More you buy more chances of issues

    Refund
