Quite decent specs for the price, much better than a rubbish spec a04s for $179, and was surprisingly popular for a supermarket phone when it was last posted in May. Same price at Telstra delivered but that ends today. Price spotted in the catalogue starting Wednesday.

  • 6.58" FHD+ screen

    Mediatek

    Enough said

4GB Ram in 2023 is just enough but device will struggle with multi tasking.

I have 12GB in my s20 and find it struggles at times . I have to restart it

    • +10

What were you doing that struggled with 12GB? My Poco F3 only has 6 and i have literally never had issues running anything.

      • -3

Usually have alot of apps running in background and a few dozen chrome tabs lol

        • +3

          Don’t do that…..

          You’re welcome.

          • +1

@Grok: I just checked my phone an i don't think even doing that matters. I had 70+ tabs open in chrome.

The oldest just drop out of memory after a while and reload when you click on them again.

If you want to switch in and out of some games without them reloading them you may need 12. Phone shouldn't struggle and need to restart no matter what really.

        • Didnt the s20 have a fairly poor Exynos processor in au? Maybe thats yourissue? I dont run into those issues at all with half the ram. Just checked and had 70+ tabs and several aps running as well.

    • Samsung phones are known to struggle no matter the resources they have.

Didnt have this issue with my note 9

        • +1

You mean the Samsung Note C-4?

    • you must realise that android handset utilises ram in a different way to a PC.

    Any links to unlock. Thanks

    Locked to Telstra?

    • Telstra pre-paid mobile devices: Only work with a Telstra SIM card. Unlocking fee applies for use with a non-Telstra SIM card. Read more unlocking information. Limit 1 per customer and no trade sales.

It's no good. Lent this phone to ET and he couldn't call home.

  • Btw, I've never had luck with Aldi Sims in Telstra phones. Boost could work.

  • You can buy now for $149 at Telstra.

    • +1

      As above, ends today

      • Sorry, didn't read carefully.

  • I have one. Pretty slow and non responsive compared to my huawei p30 (non pro).

A question I do have, I've been using my boost service for about 6 months and prepaid is expiring soon (used with old phone). Do u think ill be ready to call Telstra to request the unlock, or will they think it's not entitled to the 6 month discounted unlock fee as I wasn't using an actual Telstra service?

    • +2

By comparing to a huawei flagship, you need a vivo flagship phone.

Vivo is a competitor in China.

    • Boost isn't a valid Telstra service for things like Telstra Plus. So unlikely.

      • Thanks. I guess I wasnt sure if the discounted unlock applied to having an active "Telstra" service for 6 months or having the phone in your pocession for 6 months.

  • +2

Will not work with Aldi mobile, Boost only! Can unlock with Telstra for $25 after six months.

Bought this from last deal and didn't regret it if you like me need 1tb microsd, headphone jack, NFC and it's for secondary phone. Comes with screen protector, case, charger. I don't do games on phone.

  • +2

    NFC is in bold. Classic.
And my work mates laughed at me for returning a phone years ago for not having NFC feature.
    Bleh.

    • +4

you really stuck it to them after all these later, goodjob man

      • Yeah… Cheers :-)

    • Yeah, my mates laughed at me for wanting a portable camera phone 30 years ago. Who's laughing now?

      • +1

        ha, not them ;-)

  • The bit I don't really get about cheap phones locked to Telstra, is who is paying big $$$ to be on the Telstra network, only to then use a subpar phone.

    • +3

Older people, tech illiterate people, people who care more about the network

  • I have a pixel 6 pro and the screen is smashed, could just turn it on to get everything of it.. gonna cost $450 for new screen. wonder if i just get this? i'm on a telstra plan

    • pixel 6 pro and the screen is smashed, .. gonna cost $450 for new screen

Wow! That's more than iPhone screen replacement ?

    • Sounds like a manufacturer replacement/repair? Normally third party repair is in the $300 region.

  • have wooles & coles ever sold the outright phones from optus and telstra?

    • Woolies have an unlocked phone selection, Provider supplies phones are only offered unlocked on a plan with the company.

Excellent phone for the price, boost sim works fine

  • Does eSim Work in this phone?

    • Ask Google please…

  • Looking for unlock ..Any pointers will be appreciated

    ANTUTU 9 scores
    Snapdragon 695* = 401047
    Dimensity 700 = 340319

The cpu in this is pretty good for the money, so this is good enough for a moderate user. 4GB is fine if you aren't insane and occasionally close aps.

*used in Moto edge 30 neo and G82

    • yeah it's antutu is pretty good, much better than the sub 150000 that most other zte phones would produce. just don't be like easternculture

  • Picked up similar 4G model, Y33s and great bang for buck $199 unlocked. Use it as GPS on my eMTB. Most Vivo units have 5 band GPS which work nearly everywhere.

Not much bloatware, but ran it through ADB Control and disabled a ton of features not needed which improved battery life considerably. https://adbappcontrol.com/en/

You don't need to spend loads of money for a decent handset these days.

I went through the unlocking exercise with Telstra and these phones can be unlocked for $25. (you won't find anything cheaper - I tried).
    What you need to do:
    - go to the online chat (need telstra number - just activate the one that comes with the phone). Tell the online staff that you want to get your phone unlocked and you bought the phone ages ago but you used it with Boost, or someone else used it - whatever. Tell them you can't remember when it was purchased - they will check this for you in their system. It will be likely date from a year ago or more. Note that down and don't waste any more time with them at this point.

    • go to Telstra store and tell them you want to pay $25 for the unlocking of your phone (device over 6 months old). Give them your contact details (for the receipt) and tell them the date of purchase you got of the online person (to justify only $25 payment).

    • go back to online chat and tell the agent that you would like to get your phone unlocked, tell them the purchase date the first person gave you, give them IMEI and give them the payment receipt number from the store. They will create an unlocking case for your device and you will get an email with the unlock code in few days.

The above worked for me and I purchased the phone like a month before I needed to get it unlocked. No one ever asked for the purchase proof.

    • Thanks! I'm running out of data from my 1yr boost plan (and only 3 months in since the phone purchase), so I'll try my luck with your method!

    • Thta's the response I got from the chat:

"Your device is not in contract with me that is the reason we are unable to get your device details. I suggest you please visit your nearby store then they will give all the information about your device. We have on contcat devices information only. Thank you for understanding the situation."

"Thank you for patiently waiting , I've manage to check that your service is boost prepaid service which we no longer have an access to see history of your devices"

So not to sure how you did it…

      • I'm about to try this out tomorrow. Unless I'm mistaken you seem to have used your boost sim number to put in the query to online chat.

Try a Telstra branded sim (mathewus mentioned to use the one that was included in the box) and raise the same query with them through that sim.

I'll try tomorrow and update you on my experience.

    • How long did it take to receive the unlock code? I went through the steps and they said within 7-10 business days but hoping it doesnt take that long (they submitted the unlock request last Wednesday)

  • Can someone who has this phone please check if it has hearing aid streaming? Usually in the accessibility settings
