Buying a semi no-name tablet with zero resale value for the price of an iPad is… not quite a bargain, is it?

    • +7

Oppo is hardly a semi no name brand

      • I have an OPPO phone that's garbage as in laggy and had zero software support. Optus locked and has 4GB or 6GB of RAM.

        • Doesn't make it a no name brand.

          • @The Hobo: It makes it of a poor expectation stuff. Surely it doesn't sound sane to waste $700 on their tablet.

            • @ALBastru: They make some good phones. I don't know anything about their tablets etc - my point was purely on the "no-name" comment.

Not recommending their tablet and I do agree that I wouldn't be wasting $700 on their tablet. Far better options out there, but that's based on the hardware rather than the brand.

            • @ALBastru:

We don't know what phone you bought and what is its real market value, we also don't know what you do with the phone.
For sure you're not an educated shopper if you buy a phone from Optus because they gave you the cheapest lemon for a premium price.
I've a Oppo phone and I bought it outright for ~$600, no lagging and regarding software support you ask them and they will send you to their repair centre.

Surely it doesn't sound sane to waste $700 on their tablet.

I believe the phone Optus sold you is worth no more than $200, a 4GB piece of crap since it's too slow but that is what you paid plus 100% markup to Optus.

              • @billadm: Well, even if it's 200$ ( it is Oppo A72 ) it should work and it should offer some basic software support, right? I feel like it is some sort of disposable mobile phone :)

P.S. It has Android 10 and security patch level of 5 December 2020! According to GSM Arena it was released on April 29th 2020. Now that's some software support!

Now imagine someone telling to one that will buy this tablet: what do you expect from a $700 tablet when a good one is more than $1000?

To give a different point of view I love my Oppo phone (Find X2 Pro) to the point where I know my next phone will be an Oppo. I haven't been loyal to a brand yet (Apple, Samsung, LG, Google).

After 3 years it is not laggy and I have had software updates to this point (I think the one in July was my last update).

        • You can get those phone specs in an Oppo for ~$150 so I guess if you want something that basic, it's going to perform poorly.

      • yea but it's still an android tablet

iPad has less bells and whistles but will remain usable & be supported for longer and hold its value better

Oppo is hardly a semi no name brand

Oh really?? You mean you and your nerd friends heard about it, so now it's officially not no name?

How about we have a look at the globally recognised brand names: https://brandirectory.com/rankings/global/table

Interestingly, Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, and Xiaomi are all there. OohNo, Oppa, or whatever the f this "brand" is, not.

        Any guesses why not?

But hey, put your money where your mouth is: buy this amazing brand, put it on on eBay and see how many people will even bother to click on the ad, let alone buy it.
On the flipside, how long do you think it will take to sell a used iPad.

        Until next time, kids

Yet when we narrow the search to mobile phone manufacturers rather than any and every industry in the world - there it is! at number 5, ahead of Motorola, LG and Nokia.

@The Hobo: See the very bottom of that "legit" website you linked?

"Copyright - Global Brands Publications Limited © 2022. Global Brands Publications is not responsible for the content of external sites."

Sounds like a totally trustable source of info.

Only a full moron would believe OhhNo is a more recognised brand than Nokia or LG…

Alright kiddo, go back to your room now. You are not allowed to play COD with your friends tonight

            • @glade90: We sell Oppo in Woolies and Coles and the main tele companies. It's not a premium luxury brand, or a well reputed brand, but it is well known and it does sell quite a few units, some of their products are very high performers. Oppo, Xaiomi and OnePlus are under the same company, or at least they were when I last checked, and they are all well known in the tech industry, and the not rich af community.

    $700 for a mediatek ??!!¡¡

  • Gross Mediatek. These CPUs just plain suck.
Surely a Samsung tablet can be had for similar money (even if you have to find a good deal), for those that don’t like iPad for whatever reason.

    • would be nice to have Samsung with similar tech spec at comparable price :)
E.g. S8 has TFT LCD screen (not even IPS) so you need to choose more expensive S8 plus (which is bigger(!)) and lowest so far has been around $950

  • +1

Could get ipad mini6 or ipad 10th gen for this price. No deal.

    • +3

Why are you comparing apples with pears???
Usually people buy Android devices because of the reasons they don't want to buy Apple.

      • -1

So Oppo has the same brand recognition as apple now?

        • +1

Are you using brand? or device and it's hardware?
I personally prefer to use device for it's tech spec, comfort, experience, reliability, etc regardless of the brand name.

      • -2

Usually people buy Android devices because of the reasons they don't want they can't afford to buy Apple.

You had a typo in there, fixed it for ya

        • but the initial message claims that the price is the same?..

    • Also ipad 10 gen screen with 60Hz refresh rate is not even close to this one with 144Hz and higher pixel density

      • -2

Yeah, totally, I hear all iPad users complaining about it and the Android tablet users raving about refresh rates and Hz and shit.

        Android tablets users

        Wait, jokes, no such thing

$700 Mediatek Device - Hell No. this is chinesium rubbish

  • +3

After getting jibbed with the find X5 pro promo that was meant to get a free airpad…. oppo won't be my next phone ever.

    • same, ended up buying a phone and reselling it. however the old pad sucks, so laggy

    • That's weird, I got the fx5 for the Mrs and got the tablet and earpods free

  • +7

Not sure why everyone is shitting on mediatek dimensity 9000 considering it is more power efficient than the snapdragon gen 1 in tablets like the Samsung tab s8 series. If you don't believe me check https://techtoday.in.ua/ru/news-ru/why-the-real-smartphone-p… or better yet watch the video the article is based on https://youtu.be/s0ukXDnWlTY

    • +1

As someone who has a dimensity device real-world use doesn't live up to the hype/benchmarks

      • A dimensity 9000/8100? I know that previous dimensity were lacking but this generation has caught up. In fact the way most reviewers use benchmarks is performance without taking into account power efficiency which the video proves.
