        • Have you successfully done this recently in June, July or August 2023?
I have done this successfully last year for 5 lines and I have heard that they have clamped down on it now.
I went on their chat line about this in June and they have told me that they are not able to do this via chat but I can ring customer support 13 number to proceed.
I have got that on screen shot as evidence that they have advised me to do it that way but I have heard in forums that they are refusing to do it and ask you to recharge online.

I am planing to port out using Aldi $5 sim and back to Boost again. I have read that the port out and back can be done within 30 mins.

@he88388: I tried via chat on 19th July and was refused - I was told they're only doing it on the phone.

I was able to do it on the phone, but had to get a second phone number for them to call me back on just before they moved the number to the new SIM (as the old SIM - that I'd called from - would be deactivated - and they didn't want me to put the new SIM in the phone until they'd moved the number to the new SIM).

They said next time they wouldn't do it and "maybe you'll have to port out and port back in again if you really want that extra 10GB" to which I replied "it's not so much the extra 10GB as the $30 off and the $25 cash back on top of that which I really want, as well as the extra 10GB".

The CS guy laughed, and said, yeah, fair enough, I'd port for that as well.

@BJReplay: Yup, had the same line 'they won't do it again next year'.

I'll just port out and back in.. saves the hassles.

  • I already have boost sim and my data is about to run out soon. I still have 6 months validity left. Is there any data only esim option that i can combine with boost?

    • Any reason you don't just move to a new 12 month SIM or another plan?

      • Just looking for a cheaper option for data only if there is any? Plan B is to renew buy another 365 day Boost plan.

    • Afaik the only way to add data to an existing 12month is to buy a new recharge, which will reset the days remaining.

If you have a dual sim/esim phone just run a second sim purely for data.

      • Yup thats the plan. Use esim for data only

  • Says deal ends Aug 22 or if sold out. Typically how long do they take to sell out? (Need to leave it as late as possible)

  • Spewing - just bought 2x 170GB and dont need them til end of the year :(

  • You have to enter in your driver license number and show this to the courier when delivered. What the hell?? What happens when I am not home for the delivery?

    • If that's the case, then they'll take it to the post office for collection.

    • Purchased my $200 sim directly from Boost in June and although they got all the information AU post just drop the SIM envelope inside the mail box. I guess if reported stolen Boost will just deactivate the Serial Number. If you buy from a retailer they require signature upon Delivery

  • If you are planning to upgrade to iphone-15 within next year. There is a good possibility iPhone 15 will only support e-sims and boost doesnt.

    • Apple is highly unlikely to make their phones incompatible with a large segment of the market given the slow adaptation of eSIM globally

      • I don’t care about e-SIM your mobile phone number is likely to get hacked and completely controlled. Then your MFA would simply compromise. At least a physical sim is with you and nobody can muck around unless they physically have it

E-SIM is convenient but not so secure I don’t trust it

SIM swapping is incredibly easy and incredibly common. This is why SMS 2 factor isn't anywhere near as secure as people think it is.

eSIMs might actually reduce this a bit, but it depends on how the carrier handles requests to move an account from eSIM to eSIM.

  • Off topic a bit but I need some advice. When, say a 28 day sim with 30gb goes on special, is it best to buy a few and throw them out as they expire or you use up the data or just buy one sim on special and recharge? I'm going on a road trip in outback Queensland and figure I need a Telstra sim for the coverage.

    • Depends if you want to keep your phone number. If you dont care about your phone number being the same, you can use up all the data and chuck it out. Reactivate a new sim with a new phone number to continue using data until you finished you trip. i have been doing that for quie a long while now.

    • Have been out past the black stump and having been comparing Boost and Optus on two phones. Even Boost is out of range for some of those ‘120km to next town’ roads.
One out of 20 times you will drive into a place that has better Optus coverage for the 150 metres it takes to drive thru.

  • Wish their international packs were better but a solid choice otherwise

  • boost is now capping their speed to 150mbps for download now? I am currently using boost and can get 950mbps in Burwood, Victoria.

  • Currently on Boost how to go about renewing using this SIM? port out? how much time in between?

    • @neonlight I want to know how to do this also. I have been successfully getting their online chat to port my number across to a new boost sim card. I have heard that they are clamping down on porting your number across to new sim card and asked you to recharge online.

      • Yes that's why others port out to say Aldi and come back but I'm not sure how long you port out before port back in.

But I heard rumours it has to be non Telstra

  • Can existing customers port onto a new sim and then port straight back onto the Boost sim or do they need to wait some time before they are allowed to port onto the Boost sim?

    • I am planning to do this also. Port over to Aldi $5 sim and port back to Boost after. I am unsure how long do I have to remain in Aldi before its time to port back into Boost.

  • Don't forget to have yourselves a great day!

Is this one of the cashback eligibility requirements?

  • worth changing from amaysim? have about 24 days left on my 180gb yearly plan costs me $150 a year usually

    • If the Optus network serves you well and you are happy with the coverage in your usage, there is no point changing to this deal.

  • Good deal but Boost not for me anymore after 1 year using them, they are slow unfortunately for my areas of usage. Based in Outer East Melbourne.

  • looks like this expired.

    • +3

Still works for me. Remember to apply BOOST250 coupon code at checkout to get the discount.

      • Yes worked for me yesterday.

  • Don’t need 260gb. Give me $150 per year 140gb deal back!!!

  • Boost website is saying 'Activate and first recharge by 25 Sept 23' cashrewards says it needs to be activated within 30 days of ordering. Does anyone know which one would apply?

  • I eventually got the call centre to transfer my current Boost number to the new $300 Sim card. I have reception on the new sim card, but can't make phone calls or surf the net. The 4g symbol next to the reception bars is also flashing, which I have never seen before. Should I be worried that they have stuffed up the transfer? It has also only been around 3hrs since I requested my current number to be transferred.

    • How did you approach Boost call centre to successfully transfer your current Boost number across to the new sim card? What reasons did you use?
Have you resume normal operation since you've encountered problems? Was it resolved?

  • Was delivered in 20 hours, ordered it last evening and it's here the next morning.

  • Boost is getting expensive. Is there another prepaid 365 day expiry SIM card with 5G on the market at the moment?

  • Cashback is now $35, purchased today

  • … optus are doing half price $49/month plans on month to month.. 24.50 a month for 30 gb.. what does everyone think please?

    Which is better??

    • First and foremost, Boost/Telstra is going to be better in terms of coverage.
Optus $24.50 x 12 = $294 for 360g Data (you have access to 30g of data per month for 12 months)
      Boost $250 = ($20.85 x 12) = for 260g Data (you have access to 260g for data for 12 months)

Depends on whether data or coverage is more important to you.

      • I was thinking of going on the 365gb for $365 boost.. which is not great value for money compared to the 260gb and optus deal

Which comes to more expensive but for my parents I thought they could go on the cheaper boost one…

        • Not sure why you are saying 365g of data for the cost of $365.
Boost is $250 for 260g of data.

I was in the same boat this year for my parents also. I got them on Boost originally for $150 for 12 months (data and coverage is not of importance to them).
The cheapest Boost this year is going to be $230 for 12 months. I jumped boat this year and switched them across to Amaysim for only $99 valid for 12 months.
My in laws are in rural WA, so they must be on the Boost network for coverage. They will have to pay $230 this year for 12 months service.

  • @he88388 Sorry for the late reply. I told the consultant I would buy a sim port out and back in again. He went and asked his supervisor and was able to port the number onto the Boost sim instead. The porting took longer than usual because I had to port onto the sim card which had a new number attached and then my number was ported over. All up it took around 13hrs.

  • what's the best thing to do when the data runs out on one of these?
Boost's data pack add ons aren't very cheap…

  • Can you have multiple mobile numbers on the one Boost ID. For example wife, son, daughter and me
