  • Is there an activate by x days within purchase?
"240GB on next recharge." does that mean I can use it to recharge my existing one with boost

Edit: nvm it looks like this deal is only for new customers

    • +1

always for new customers just people normally port it and out their number

      • +1

Whats the cheapest way to port out and in again?

        • well aussie broadband had free sims just before and kogan has like $1 or $2 deals for a monthly thing

Whats the cheapest way to port out and in again?

Get an Aldi SIM, like $5

        • +1

I just ported out to Aldi then back to boost day after was easy so grab a $5 sim from Aldi .

          • +1

@spock: Hmm thats interesting. I thought both running on Telstra network would be a problem to port in and out. So far I've asked support team to put me on the new sim with same number and they did it instantly (with about 30-40 mins downtime)

            • @kaleidoscope: I tried that with support team with my wifes sim & they did that swapped instantly but 2 weeks later when mine was due they wouldn't do it so I did the Aldi thing.

            • +1

@kaleidoscope: how does this work? how do you cancel your old service then? will the new sim just work with old number?

              • @viper8548: Pretty much. They deactivate your old sim and transfer it to the new sim. Old one is deactivated instantly but new one activation might take some time which is where the delay comes.

        • Contact their live chat first. I've had them activate a new customer only sim twice for me now.

          • +1

@BargainDoubter: Do you just tell them you lost the old sim or do you not need to give a reason?

            • @thewhale: First time I told them I stuffed up and didn't know it couldn't be used and the second time I told them they did it before and it they don't again I'll sell it and change provider :)

FML I bought this for $280 on ebay a few weeks ago

Any chance of a code for the 170gb one?

    • Me too

  • Expiry?

  • I've been with Optus for years. Is Boost any good? I pay $60 a month for 160GB.

    • +13

It's better coverage-wise as Boost uses the full Telstra network

      • I still haven't even hit 5G with Optus either. Might take a change and see how it goes.

        • +4

Generally speaking Telstra is way better than Optus when it comes to rural coverage.

$60/mth is a lot of money if you don't need so much data - with Boost you get 170GB/yr for $230 and 260GB/yr for $300 (less for promos / rebates, just search OzBargains) and that includes international calls & text to a number of countries + you can use Voice over WiFi to make & receive calls for free when you are overseas. It's a no-brainer as long as you don't need a lot of data.

          • @bauser99: I second this post.
Much cheaper plus free unlimited international roaming while of WiFi is a offer hard to beat.

    • You are on $60 /month and get 160GB /month, right? FYI this is 260GB for the whole year ie 21GB /m.

      • Good point, I read that wrong. I was reading that as 260GB per month.

        • +1

wow how the heck do you use 160GB a month… that's some serious screen time/hot spotting :)

          • +2

@scud70: It makes sense when you don’t need to sign up another ISP at home.

            • @Xzibit: 160GB for a whole month for the only internet at home…?

              I go through 850GB minimum.

              • @GTR12: wow, that’s a lot then, probably it’s only good for people don’t use that much data anyway.

              • +1

@GTR12: You should get out more

    • +2

I've been on Boost and Telstra for many years now. It certainly has greater coverage (in that I have reception in regional areas, or quieter areas where others would not have reception). However, for all that urban use and time, I don't see or experience too much benefit. Using Pixel 7 Pro.

Either way, this is a decent deal across a whole year's worth of use.

      • +1

I swapped from Boost to a 12-month Woolworths plan last month, as the Boost pre-paid plan I was on was increasing in price.
I regret it now because the coverage on Telstra wholesale is noticeably worse than Full Telstra, and not worth the $8 I am saving per month.

        • Yep, I tested both out on 1 month SIM's first before committing to 12 months and had the exact same conclusion.

    • +1

I just paid out my optus plan and went to Boost 3 months ago, get full telstra service everywhere I've been, now I pay like $21 a month equivalent instead of $125 plan

    • Much better. I switched from optus to them. Great. Simply great.

  • +4

This or $220 for 200GB + 10% Monthly Shop with WW Mobile? Barely crack 10GB/ Month

    • +3

if you need better reception/5g, and dont care about esim - go with boost

      otherwise, go with ww

      • With More at the moment, my Commbank Discount is ending soon. Don't need e-SIM or 5G. Might go with WW, been with them in the past and had good service.

        • Would test out WW on a one month before committing, it's not great for congested places like CBD.

  • does this count for moving off of JB Hifi telstra deals since they are both under telstra network?

    • yes

      • I was under the impression that it doesn't count since Boost using the same billing system as Telstra? Has this changed recently?

  • +6

    As a general cashback rules
SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering

  • Any deal on the 170GB card? Currently $230 which is basically the same price…

    • +1

This seems to be active still, going to Officeworks to try pricematch. This is 130GB
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/785383

      • Went to officeworks today and they dont stock the $200 sim anymore. They only had a $230 sim.

    • Completely different plan - That one is 170gb. This one is 260gb

      • I know, but it's still a good deal for those wanting the 170gb version.

    • Looks like it is out of stock. Can't add into the cart

  • i've always been on a plan but planning to move to boost. do these stack or does it reset the date?

    • +1

Prepaid for 12 months, you get 260gb for that timeline, no data banking after 1 year.
You get 4g & 5g on Telstra Network
Message Bank on the Telstra Network
      Hotspot allowed
Speed capped to 150Mbps download (better than NBN)
Unlimited calls & texts in Australia
Unlimited International Calling to 20 countries plus limits to other countries.
International Roaming (with data) available on 3, 7 and 14 day addon plans as needed.

CAUTION: When porting your number, using your drivers licence as ID, if you have a middle name, make sure your current Telco has that middle name on your account. Your name must match including middle names. From experience, Boost (Telstra) use your drivers licence name as the account name, so that HAS to match for your current Telco to release the number.

I helped a friend yesterday to Port his Optus Prepaid to a Boost Prepaid. The entire process, including keeping screenshots & creating a Boost ID, took less than 30 minutes. They had their full name confirmed the day before we started and it ported within 10 minutes in Sydney, so quick.

  • Im on Vodafone now, can I buy this Sim and opt for port straightaway while activating the Boost Sim ?

    • Yes you can.
Put your number on the activation page they will send you a request for authorization then port your numbers over. Pretty smooth.

  • You cant price match this with officeworks because of promo? Or am i wrong

  • How's the coverage on Melbourne trains? Kogan was OK for me, Vodafone was rubbish which is surprising given they use the same lines.

    • Lilydale line is all fine in my experience

  • Boost/Telstra has much better coverage and signal strength in CBD and rural areas. That’s my reason to port out from Woolworth and Optus.

Always for new customer never to retain old ones.

    • +1

Loyalty doesn't pay - it's a common story across pretty much everything.

    • Port out and back in. Or contact CSR and they may activate and transfer your number if you’re lucky.

  • Anyone know if you can stick one of these in an iPad and use just the data?

    • yes

      • Thx man!

  • No esim is a deal breaker.

  • Telestra network

  • I am a current Boost customer with $300 prepaid, expiring end of August, If i order new sim with this deal, will Boost customer support accept the new sim and activate with my current number?

    • Used to be okay but I heard they have tightened it up at the customer support end. Get a card from Aldi or someone for a one day transfer would be the way to go.

      • Ok but how long do you need wait til you port back in?is one day enough?

        • One day to be sure. Can be sooner.

  • Note: 260GB on activation for new customers. 240GB on next recharge. Activate and first recharge by 25 Sept 23.

  • Is that one of the old sim packs?

  • does anyone know if boost's coverage works at blacktown train station and at Macquarie Park (near the uni)?

    • At the metro station? I remember boost 4G was fine. Optus is obviously better in the Macquarie Park area though (Their Head office is nearby)

  • guys remember that boost to telstra is only through visiting the telstra shop and vice versa. I would suggest Vodafone and Optus the networks that are out of Telstra MVNO are better for 30mins Port in and port out.

  • +1

I'm on year 2 with boost and I just ported from one SIM to the next via Boost customer support. Received bonus data as well. Is there a reason why there's so much chatter about porting out to an external carrier before porting back into Boost?

    • They allowed you to 'recharge' as an existing customer?

      • It wasn't a recharge. They moved my phone number to a new SIM card.

        • Ooh that's interesting that they allowed you to do that as an existing customer. I keep seeing people porting out and back.

          • +2

@Kibbelhs: If you look at past deals you'll usually find at least one person mentioning you just contact customer service via chat and ask them to move your number to a new SIM card. Granted I've only done it once, but I did it with the 2 numbers I own and had no issues and plan to do it again in a month when our 2nd year is up.

        • Moved to another Sim card and kept same number?

          • @mrtenacious: Correct. I've seen others commenting in previous deals that have done the same (surprisingly not much chatter in recent deals, but definitely saw it a year ago when I was shopping for the current SIM I'm on).

Maybe there's a difference when ordering a SIM through Boost directly, but I've found cheaper pricing and haven't had an issue ordering through ebay sellers.

    • How long ago did you ported your phone number onto a new sim using their online chat?
I asked them in June via online chat, they asked me to phone customer support to port my number to a new sim card.

      • +1

I didn't leave Boost. I went from one Boost SIM to the new Boost SIM. Online chat moved 2 lines over in less than 5 minutes.
