  • I’d pay more for Telstra one as they have esim

    • +1

Is Telstra relevant or is it solely about esim vs physical sim?

Physical sim feels easier for travels or whenever you need to swap phones often.

      • One use case for eSIM is Apple Watch (and probably other wearables).

        • You can't buy an eSim from Telstra just for an Apple Watch. The eSim needs to linked to a number on a postpaid plan.

          • @ballistykx: I know. You can’t get an eSIM from Telstra for your Apple Watch unless your iPhone is also on Telstra. You seem to be agreeing with me?

            • @loksmack: ballistykx's comment was just pointing out that your comment needed a disclaimer, they weren't agreeing or disagreeing with you per se

  • So the link says it's only 100 GB and doesn't mention 5G.

It also says "new customers only".

Can someone clarify, as tomorrow there are some changes to Boost's offer…

    • Boost doesn't have a 100GB plan so it should certainly be 130GB.

Don't think this can be used as a recharge, you need to port out and in, though i think you could ask Boost through live chat, never tried myself but seen it mentioned here before.

      • Yes - did recharge through live chat, they have great customer service and assisted me

        • I too have previously had them do this via live chat.
This time they said no go.
So I called them and after 10+ mins of messing about they allowed the use of a starter for my recharge.
However, they said this is the last time they will be able to do it.
I tried the next day for my wifes phone, and they flat out refused. They said 'change of policy and our systems no longer allow it'

          • @rayski57: push them to do it and it will work. Make sure they don't recognise your voice. If your wifes boost on the same account as your one make a new account for her and call.

          • @rayski57: I just did it 2 weeks ago via chat. Took like 10 minutes. Cheers

it use to be this price before they jacked it up and then have sales then its the price it was before, deceiving marketing.

  • Can someone advise if I can use this (as a current Boost customer) or if I have to port out to a different provider first before porting back?

    Thanks.

    • Don't think this can be used as a recharge, you need to port out and in, though i think you ask Boost through live chat, never tried myself but seen it mentioned here before.

      • I did this today. Apparently, they don't do it anymore via live chat. I had to call and speak to a person. She reluctantly did port my number to the new sim. She also put a note on my account saying this is the last time they will do it. The swap was almost instant.

    • I'm in the same situation,& looked at all the comments around some say you can call boost & they will add it to your account but there's also plenty say that you have to port out & then back to boost ,I'm going for the port out to Aldi option the $5 sim then the day after activation port back .

      • If price matching from OW you can also pick up an optus or Amaysim SIM from there for $2

      • +1

Dumb question: when porting out, do you literally port out to the next provider (without putting any credits) and then port back to Boost (literally on the same day)?

        • Aldi $5 sim comes with $5 credit on it so you'll be ok . I'm going to wait till next day .

        • I believe so, to be honest never done it before.

Would always get another yearly plan from a different provider.

  • Cant seem to find info when this needs to be activated? My current plan expires this month so thinking of getting this.

    • Activation is 30 days from date of purchase as I understand.

      • +3

no, you have to activate before the expiry date printed on the back of the packaging. Not 30 days from date of purchase.
i would also like to know what is the expiry date of the sim card. on their website it stated 12 months expiry date.

  • Hey folks, all of my family members have been using Boost for a few years already.
With the recent price change, we are considering to switch to either Woolworth/Coles mobile, or even telstra.
Is there any comparison site we can rely on?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Is Telstra cheaper than Boost?

  • OP or a moderator should post the FAQ from other Boost deals, it answers some of the questions here.

  • Is there any difference between the Boost and Jb Hi Fi Telstra network coverage?

    • Yes. Boost is the only MNVO that has access to the full Telstra network.
That being said, if data speed is important, you should also take note of the speed cap for each MNVO on Telstra.
      i.e. Belong 100Mbps, Boost 150Mbps etc

      • Thanks mate, read below on Finder though?

Both Boost Mobile and JB Hi-Fi Mobile use the full Telstra network, rather than the wholesale version. This means they get the full 99.5% of Australians coverage that Telstra offers.

      • "full" Telstra network doesn't mean much in todays 4g/5g era.

  • Have they stopped doing sim swap for a recharge?

  • +1

Excellent. My current boost plan doesn't expire for another three months, so some of the recent cashrewards deals where the sim had to be activated within 30 days to get the cash back meant I would have lost nearly 3 months of usage, which negated any savings.

  • Haven't Boost changed their available plans yet? I thought something was happening early July.

  • Read through, haven't seen an answer as yet - is there any possibility these SIMs are somehow restricted to 4G only, or is the listing text simply outdated?

    • They aren't from what i'm aware.

      • OP have you signed up to this deal? Activated and checked your account inclusions as yet?

  • Has this deal expired? It says Page not found when I hit Buy now/Add to card

    • same here. oh well I was worried about all the discrepancies between OP claims and product listing, so I'm kinda glad the decision has been taken out of my hands

    • +1

Had the same error, i tried again and it worked fine.

You can try this link which shows all the sims and add it to cart from there directly.

    • Hi there

      Could you confirm this info:

12 Months, Full Telstra Network including 5G.
      130GB included total

      • +1

        Yes that's right. Thank you.

        • Much obliged cellpoint, order placed.

          Thanks OP

  • Did anybody who purchased a Sim off this company ever receive it? I purchased on 3/7 and haven't received anything, I haven't even received an acknowledgement of my order, all I have is the PayPal receipt. Looks like I may have been scammed, at least I can do a chargeback through PayPal.

    • Hey Landi,

I recommend you contact Cellpoint, highly doubt you have been scammed as they have a physical store location so I hope that eases your mind.

      • I also haven't received any emails or the starter and it's been 9 days. That's quite a terrible delay.

Luckily I screenshot the order confirmation. Getting in touch now.

  • Nice deal but I find a place which has the boost $200 for $140 and I went to Officeworks and ended up buying it for $133 which is a great deal!

    • Can you share where you found it for $140 so others can know as well and get a price match?

Oh is it this I have seen this ages ago but did not post it as it is not obtainable, you got lucky by Office works they normally add the item to cart and go to checkout which if they tried they would see it doesn't work.

      • +1

yeah I did that one a few months ago for my mum but It didn't work last week so I ended up finding another site. Send me a pm and I'll tell you the website

        • Hi mate, can u pls share the site details with me as well. Thanks.

      • no joke, stockboxonline used to add to cart back in March/April

        • still 139.99! thanks!

          wait- site closed. bugger

  • I have been buying these starter packs from 3rd party sellers for a few years now and never had any problems.
I am just starting to wonder what scams are possible by someone having physical access to the SIM and being able to copy the identifiers off it (IMSI and ICCID), or even clone it, prior to sending it to you. (Not accusing this seller of doing this, just wondering in general).
Does anyone know of any information about this, whether it is a risk, what can be done if someone has copied IMSI number from the packaging before they shipped it to you, or even cloned the SIM card? I think this is only part of an attack, there would probably be another social engineering component to actually compromise you, but I realise I don't know enough about the risks here.
I guess asking Boost through live chat to use it as a recharge on your existing account would mitigate this, as you would not be using the new SIM anyway.
    Appreciate any comments

  • When is the expiry date for activation? Can it be activated in Dec 2023?

    • Hi Ozone,

As replied in your PM, the expiry of the Boost $200 sim is Feb 2025.

      Thank you.

  • Thanks again OP and cellpoint, new SIM up and running within an hour no hassles.

Just a question re. the Boost service - did a speedtest, download speed is great but upload seems to be limited to 8Mbps….anyone else experiencing this?

Also the 'responsiveness' numbers below seem high

    Speedtest screenshot here: https://imgur.com/a/igVZKPU

  • Doubt there is an upload cap.

There was supposed to be a 150mbps download cap.

I'll share my results. Also you used 514 MB in the download portion of thr speedtest 🤣

  • I am on this plan but how do you enable 5G mode? in setting on my iphone i can only choose from 3G and 4G

    • Does your uhh iphone Support 5G?

You don't need to enable it by default, if you aren't in range of 5G connection then you will get 4G

  • Received this 2 days ago (ordered 4th of Aug). Sim expiry Feb 2025. Ported out from Woolworths mobile as I was having so many call and SMS issues with them. Much happier. Will get another one.

    • Yeah i haven't had any problems with boost (Telstra) but Optus and Vodafone havr caused a good headache, i live in sydney not even a rural area.

      • it's weird as Woolworths mobile is also Telstra. However, people have been unable to send and receive SMS messages from me. Banking F2F SMS authentications also don't get through, my 2 children each with mobiles on Amaysim can't even call me. As soon as the port out completed, they could. Isn't all managed by Telstra?

        • Boost is the only other provider that has access to Telstra's entire network, the other providers are restricted though I don't remember the specifics.
