Rebrand of the Poco F5, which has mostly been deals off AliExpress as of late.

US GSM model also available. I think it also works here in Australia (but fulfilled by Amazon US, will take longer to arrive)

Note: This is not sold by Amazon, nor shipped by Amazon.

    • Sorry, I didn't see that. Thanks for pointing that out

  • Gotta tell us the price! $535.00

  • Thanks OP
price in title please : )

Be aware that it's the Redmi Note 12 "turbo" that is the Poco F5 rebrand, but with less network band support.

The Redmi Note 12 "Pro" is different.

    • Didn't know that. Are they the same outside? I assume "pro" is the better one.

      • +2

        Depends what you're after.

The Poco and the turbo have a Snapdragon SoC which is important for custom rom and modding development. (And a really efficient platform)
The Note 12 Pro has a Dimensity SoC which isnt a Snapdragon.

redmi notes are too expensive now, better off with pocos

    • +3

I bought the redmi note 9 pro global edition a while ago and it updated fine. Not sure if I was just lucky

    • +5

I reckon you bought a Chinese version phone with global rom installed, not a Global Version Phone.

      • I rather have the Chinese version phone that works & updates as it is then be locked out of updates permanently. I can at least change the language and tolerate/uninstall the rubbish bloatware.

        • +1

          sounds like a you issue

    • I thought Global ROM might be a problem, but Global Version is ok, in terms of updates?? Is that the case?

    • +3

Replying from a Redmi Note 9 Pro Global to say you're wrong.

If you purchased a Chinese device with global rom then that's on you for buying from a dodgy source.

      • +2

Yes likewise I've never had an issue, updates normally.
        Its been a champion phone.
I've dropped it 50+ times and still going strong 2 years.

        • Yeah it's been a solid phone.

It's just recently gone end of support so no more official updates, but the custom rom development scene is pretty strong so we have access to future security updates for a while.

      • how's the camera on this?

        • +1

Blast from the past. Typical that you'd ask about the camera. LoL

Haven't seen any reviews, but miui cam does some solid processing without being anything to crave after. It's good enough for most of us.
If you're wanting to extract the best out of the sensor though, then you'd want to use one of the gcam app variants.

That said, I think the Poco F5 5G is the much better device.
Similar price and uses the SD7 G2 SoC and additionally has Band 28. It's becoming important for us with the 3G network shutdown getting closer.

          • @sir_bazz: The question was made in jest, sorry :) I am considering purchasing the xiaomi 13 ultra though.. but damn, so $$$$.

I still am holding on to all my pentax gear, can't let go of the primes.

            • @xhanatos: I suspected that after I'd posted. Had a bit of a giggle actually.

Sold my Pentax 645 gear, and my limited primes, 😬, but the rest I'm keeping.

    • just buy from official stores off aliexpress and besides if the rom is an altered one, it is very easy to flash an original rom for the miui site

      • -1

Don't know how to flash. Too complicated. Want the phone to work as it is & OTA update as it is without having to tinker and flashing. Thanks

    • Definitely not my experience. I'm the techie in the family and we've had Xiaomi/Redmi Global phones since 2017 - a Xiaomi MI6, Redmi 4 and Redmi Note 11 5G Pro. I've always received official updates for the Global ROM, granted that they are only for a certain number of years.

    • My wife and I have had 5 Redmi Notes over the years and never had any issues with the Global Version

  • +1

doesn't it lack 4g band 28? might matter if you fallback to 4g

  • Redmis come with NFC yet?

    • +2

You need to check the specific phone. I have a Redmi Note 11 5G Pro Global, and it has NFC. Not completely sure, but from memory, the Global version with Snapdragon processors generally have NFC, but the Chinese Mediatek processor phones do not have NFC.

    • +1

      Redmi Note 9 Pro does.
Google Wallet and CBA tap and pay work faultlessly even on my custom rom.

    • +3

      They have for many years…
Redmi Note 6 Pro had it in 2018 and subsequent Redmi have had it since.

    • Redmi Note 10 Pro has it.

Previous experience with a phone from BecexTech was extremely poor.

    • Take it you never watched 'The Checkout'

      • +1

I miss that show so much!

Learned everything I know about Consumer Law from it.

  • I've enjoyed my Poco f3 for the two years I've had it, but I'm always sad when none of the Australian trade in offers for new phones won't take Xiaomi or Poco as submissions…
