Brainwavz Beta w/ In-Line Microphone (Earphones) $14 Free Shipping (with Coupon Code)

1190
fb2012fiver

Just saw that Brainwavz Beta with In-Line Microphone earphones are down to $14 (AUD - prices on MP4Nation are USD). I think this is the cheapest they have been.
I've been using them (and just ordered 2 more as gifts) and I can vouch for the sound quality for the price range. Great step up from Iphone stock earbuds. Very balanced. The call answer/pause/play button works well (tested with Iphone 4 and HTC One X).

  • Free shipping
  • The RRP on MP4Nation is USD $$33.50 (but, the RRP of non in-line-mic-with-remote model in Australia is about $49)
  • Comes with free comply foam eartips (in addition to a set of silicon eartips)
  • In line mic

I can also vouch for the MP4Nation website, I've used them a number of times, really good and responsive customer service. If there is a problem with the product, replacements are very quick.

  • Will they just work in a normal iPod or mp3 player as headphones ,as opposed to using the phone and microphone options ?

    • Yes, they would work.

  • +1

Feel like giving this a try but the amount of earphones and headphone I got from ozbargain is piling up faster than its breaking down.

  • Got one using the refferal code
    Thanks for posting the offer

    • Cheers, praga!

Never heard of the brand nor do i need one. But still bought one anyways due to amount of positives. Sigh

    • Peer pressure got me, brought three.

  • I really don't need any more earphones, but I'm very tempted to get these just for the comply foam tips.

Must have been ozbargained. Still waiting for my orders to be processed. I guess being offered an upgrade like the Dell Printer deal ($9 one)is out of the question!!

    • Nope, still in stock.Another good thing about buying this brand from MP4Nation is they pretty much never run out of the stuff, they are the main distributors.

    Stop posting headphones deal……

  • $14.25 after applying coupon…why not $14?

    • I think that's USD ubor.

  • the code is not working now????

    • Agreed, the original deal has finished, its more then twice that cost now:

  • Ordered on the 6th, shipped within 2 hours. Arrived in Sydney on the 8th. Still no sign of them… F**K U Australia Post!

    • I am still waiting on 2 that I ordered as well. No tracking so don't know if Australia Post has them yet.

  • Got mine today and tried changing the earbuds to the Comply Foam ones and the casing broke off =\ LOL..
Contacted customer service, just waiting on reply

  • Anyone from South Aust received theirs yet?

    Still waiting :(

  • I ordered two sets and they arrived this morning. Very disappointed with the first set. The volume out of the left ear is about 2-3 times softer than the right and when you move the connector one of the ears stops working completely. Obviously some dodgy wiring. Where's the quality control?

Thankfully the 2nd set work fine - however so far they don't sound anywhere near as good as my Ultimate Ears 200's. I'll burn them in and see how they go.

Overall - thumbs down from me. Don't think I can be bothered contacting MP4Nation for a replacement/refund. Hope everyone else has a better experience!

    • You should definetely contact them about the first pair. They quickly replace faulty pairs. And for the second pair, burning in them opens them up, the pairs I own are far better than UE200s.

      • +1

I know I should, just CBF'd posting them back!

I did burn in the other pair most of yesterday and I think they are already sounding a little better. Happy to give them a good go.

        • just got mine, agreed sound is no where near UE200s. Very muddy atm. I will burn in and see how it goes. To be honest these are one of the worst sounding earphones I've got on me, i dont know if they are defective or just bad. Going to leave them burning for the rest of the night. Atleast the comply foam tips are still awesome.

edit: just noticed that the left earbud has also come off, appears to have no glue at all

edit 2: from all the positive reviews im reading, im thinking i've gotten a faulty pair..

        • -1

I just compared my existing pair that I've been using for 6 months and the new ones I received, there is a huge difference, the new ones sound muffled. I think (and the reviews suggest) that burning them in will get rid of this. So I would say give it a go.

        • +1

A silly question but what is 'burning' and how long should you do it?

  • +1

Mine is already broken, the left side earpiece housing "opened" up. Seems like it wasn't glued together properly. Disappointing.

    • +1

same as mine… are you going to email them?

      • yeh probably, see if they can post me out a new set without me sending them the faulty one back. You should do it too, that way we can build our case stronger if there's a lot of emails with the same fault coming in

  • Just got mine, quality is fantastic for $15

  • +2

Only one ear works on my set, the other ear sounds pretty ordinary too..

  • Got mine yesterday sound quality and build quality seems to be ok but im only getting a hiss sound from the inline mic

  • +1

Looking at the comments above, it seems that the QA guys at MP4Nation are on annual leave. Altogether.

    • Having said that though, the customer service people are very nice. They wouldn't disappoint you if you report the issues.

  • Sound quality is terrible, and build quality even worse. I am having the same issue as the others, housing on one ear phone is opening up already. Also the design is just awkward in the ear. Waste of $15. Will stick to ue200's for my cheapies.. I also think there sound is a lot better considering they actually get a seal on your ear.

  • +5

Yeap.. just got mine and into the bin they go.. Infact, these sound worse than my iphone buds… There's just no treble or bass.. plenty of everything in the middle and nothing else..

Worse sounding earphones I've ever owned, by a long way.. Chalk it up to an inexpensive lesson..

    • -2

      Burn…them…in

    • +1

After using them today these don't even compete against the UE200s, i burned them in for an entire night. Burning in can also only do so much, its not going to completely redefine the earphones. Put it this way crap earphones will get a little bit better, they're still crap earphones.

      • I agree mate.

I have a pair of $200 futuresonics so I know what a good earbud can sound like, but I find the ue200 the best bang for your buck. And the build quality is immense, use them daily at the gym and still going strong.

Also I have been burning these in for 3 days yet, nothing has changed. Muddy bass and a non existent high.

        • how did those reviewers even say it was slightly good?!

        • I've been using my old pair Of BETAs for 6 months and they sound AWESOME. Far better than my UE200s.

I bought 2 more pairs from this deal and they sound crap. I am wondering if there is a problem with the whole batch.

I shop from this store very often and haven't had an issue like this. Will be writing to them to ask what's going on.

        • I also bought and recevied my Beta V2s from the same batch as this ozb thread. I can confirm my pair also have very muffled sound quality.

@erd can I ask the pair which you bought earlier, was that with or without the microphone. The only reason I have at the moment for the poor quality (besides QC control which seems unlikely since so many of us are getting poor earphones) is that the ones with the microphone have much worse sound quality than those without. I am led to think this because the ones in the reviews I have read do not feature a microphone.

        • I see, that is weird. I've contacted them as well but no reply… I used to buy from mp4nation and they were awesome with customer service, hopefully they keep it up.

Im using the foam tips on my UE200s and they work awesome, heres hoping that mp4nation resolve this issue if the batches we got are truly wrecked.

        • I agree with the above comments on the lack in sound quality which, when compared to the ue200s seems to lack both bass and clarity although my one's build quality seems pretty good so far. :( Hope it's just this batch and that this issue is resolved soon by mp4nation.

        • Yeah I contacted them as well, waiting for reply. I ordered two pairs, one is broken in one ear. Sound is pretty average in the other one, but I only wrote about the first pair. I guess expecting sound quality microphones for $15 was too much to ask -you get what you pay for.

        • Re:Stradiot
No, they are the same ones with the remote and mic. The cable and the remote are a slightly different though.

  • +1

I raised a ticket as well. hopefully mp4nation resolve this issue.

It seems pretty obvious they wanted to get rid of a bad batch though :(

  • This is the reply i got:

    Hi

The Brainwavz Beta needs around 60 hours of burn in before the drivers reach their optimal sound, we would recommend to let these burn in for around that long and then see how the overall sound is.

If the earphones are physically broken then let us know.

    What do you guys think?

    • Yea, I got nearly the exact answer as you…
      Hi

Let them burn in and see how they perform
      Thanks

  • I didn't even get a reply on my support ticket and they CLOSED it :(

    • Actually I think that their customer service is quite good as they responded to my tickets quite fast but I'm just unhappy with the current quality of their Brainwavz Betas.

  • I just created a ticket just to voice my complaint, not that I've left the door open to any solution..

    "Hi,

I received these headphones last week and would just like to offer my thoughts on them.. These things are terrible, and I mean, really really terrible.. There's no bass, no treble but there's everything in between. Even my stock standard iphone earbuds make music glisten with perfection and are a massive upgrade over the Brainwavz Betas I received. I've even pushed them through about 80 hours of burnin and they sound no better than when I originally got them.

It's a good thing that I only wasted $15 on these things and I'll put it down to a cheap lesson.. The next stop is the bin for these things and am now back to my iphone earbuds which are music to my ears..

    Mr V"

    • Hi
I am sorry that you are unhappy with your purchase. With the Betas the sound out of the box does need some burn in before the driver reach their optimal. It also helps that you have a good seal, trying different tips can alter the shape of the sound.
Sound is also a personal experience, what sounds good to one may not sound good to another, there is no one rule of thumb in the matter of sound preference.
Our store does have a 30 day full refund policy, you can send the earphones back to us and get a full refund. Let me know if you want to opt to return your purchased items.
      Thanks

      With best regards,
      General Support

      • Yep, similar to my response but i gotta say their customer service's response time is quite good. i shall give a couple weeks and see

        Hi

Thanks for the update, generally the earphone drivers will open up and the sound will setlle through normal use. If you look at reviews for the Betas you can see that this is noted a lot.

If you feel that there is a problem you can send it back to us to test. You also have upto 30 days to return the product for a full refund.

As far as the sale you are referring to, there were over 1500 units shipped out worldwide, there will be some units arriving with issues mostly due to shipping damage. The sound burn in is a issue noted with Betas since they were released and it can be seen in quite a few reviews. Sound is also a personal issue, there will be those that do not enjoy the sound as others, but thats why we do have a 30 day return policy for those that do not like the earphones.

        Thanks

        With best regards,

  • Mine suck as well compared to my iPhone ones. Will try burning them in to see if that helps.

  • What a dissapointment… last brainwavz i own.

  • What a piece of… disappointment!!

I've read somewhere that these are comparable or even better then Klipsch S4. I don't know what those reviewers were smoking but my S4 is heaps and bounds…. nah, not even that: they are just simply incomparable.

The Brainwavz Beta resembles the $0.5 headphone both in build and sound quality… Luckily, only $14 wasted.

    • Like I said before, the copy I won from 6 months ago are one of the best earphones I own (I do own Klipschs as well). The 2 pairs I purchased from this deal sound crap. THIS is the reason for the reviews. I am a non-smoker.

      • +1

Hm… Aren't you the one who made sh*tload of points/money on the referral link you posted for this 'amazing deal'.

I'm sure you'd understand if I say your opinion is a bit biased to the least…

        • +1

I didn't say anything that I do not believe in. These 'used to be' amazing earphones. And like I said, I bought 2 pairs myself from this batch.

Thanks to everybody who followed the referral link. I am sorry that the earphones are not as good as they used to be.

I follow fellow ozbargainers' referral links too. If this system bugs you mate, bring it up with the mods and stop making insulting and empty accusations.

        • -2

Oh, and one more thing, I see that you have been benefiting from this society for a good year and made absolutely no contributions yourself. We used to have a name for this sort of thing…what was it…

  • +1

The only good thing about these earphones was the foam tip that came with it. I can use them on my UE 200. Absolute junk

  • Well they've stopped replying to me after i sent them a picture of my earphone buds. Great…

    • +1

"MP4 Nation office will be closed from today and will reopen on Wednesday Oct 3rd. Whilst we are closed support tickets may not be replied to and orders will not be shipped out till we reopen."

Nevertheless, they should have set an auto-reply.

      • It's ok theyve sent me a reply and told me they will send a replacement as mine was faulty! Good on them, hopefully the new one isnt part of this dodgy batch!

  • Just got my parcel from AusPost in a clear sealed bag with a note saying that my parcel got damaged and the contents may have gone missing, inside was the yellow padded envelope the headphones should have come with, but it was all dirty and ripped open.. and surprise surprise no headphones inside. :(

    • +1

that sucks dude! email mp4nation or call up AusPost

      • yeah, definetely. contact mp4nation, see what they say.
