  • I hope there is some kind of heat shield above the compressor because it and all the electronics are underneath the cool section and of course heat rises. The body is plastic - so it would cool and heat the food at the same time.

  • Any suggestions on how to power this bad boy?

  • +1

Power it in your car. Or from deep cycle battery while camping.
Don't expect it to be as reliable as a Engl, don't expect it to be a quiet/efficient as a decent waeco.
I've ordered a 45L to replace my last shitty one that's lasted me for 10 years and is falling apart. We'll see how it goes.

    • Are battery boxes the way to go nowadays?

      • +1

Too many ways to power these with too many variables to recommend any. All depends on your use case.
Ive always used a 120ah agm in a battery box while stopped and from vehicle while running. Looking at lighter solutions at the moment.

        • do you call Redarc top-end?

          oh probably top-end price..

          • @Al123: Just decent lithium battery, dc-dc charger and some smart functionality and build together and the cost adds up

Sure you can buy separately and pay for install but then fixed into single 4wd .. hassle to change 4wd.

What are you thinking for top-end portable option?

            • @matt-ozb: There are other, better options than Redarc FYI. I running a MLT switchmaster. Highly recommend. Aussie design and active development.

  • What is that little compartment? Is that for a battery or to store cables?

  • +1

15L is small. And lots of wasted space underneath as well, probably because it doesn't have a fan to keep the compressor cool.

Have had a good experience with Jaycar's Brass Monkey 25L which was on sale on Jaycar's ebay store back in December for $157 shipped. The added plus is that it will run on even 16V, when other fridges will be giving a voltage error/warning.

    • +1

Spec sheets say up to 50v..haven't tested it though. Just using a 18v drill battery/ 30w solar panel setup.

      • DIY or have you got something you bought like the Ryobi one?

      • Found my new power source. How long do you reckon you get from the battery?

        • you could probably do the calcs pretty easily … amp usage from fridge vs battery

eg fridge guessing from others - about 12v & 3aH

          battery - about 18v & 4aH

so maybe an hour very roughly?

          For the 15L .. maybe 2-3 hours

          • @matt-ozb: So it's definitely enough to make it portable especially say with a 6Ah battery or two, good to throw into a beach cart then without the extra weight and space that a battery box would consume.

        • +1

One weekend mate (two days/ 1 night).

In eco mode it duty cycles on/off @ 45 watts.

So 30w solar input keeps up fine. Cost me $20 on ebay.

Then do the Maths on a 5Ah 18v drill battery at night. Being mostly closed, duty cycles are far less frequent. It taps out overnight. But still around 5C or less by morning.

Solar back in for the day to get it back to 1 or 2C.

Basically, leave home with it super cold, running off car to destination. Then solar, battery sat night, solar, back to car Sun night.

    • where do you get 16v ?

  • -2

I tend to stay clear of products that the manufacturer didn't even bother taking outside to take a real photo with.

    • +2

      It is a $150 fridge.

If you want great photos, look at the $1500 fridges at the same size from Dometic, Engel, Bushman.

10 times the price for 10 times the photos.

      • +1

I tend to agree with her.

I like the value that this item promises. It’s certainly cheap. I just don't want to end up with plastic junk. It’s wasteful, even if it is indeed only $150.

What I find weird is they’ve gone through the effort of photoshopping beer bottles into it when it probably would have been easier to take real photos with beer bottles in it. I can’t get a sense of how big it actually is and what I can fit into it.

        • I agree, the proportion of the fridge and beer bottles is ridiculous and it really gives no sense of how big the fridge actually is.
Nonetheless, i have ordered one as my 3-way fridge is on its last legs and i liked the functionality of having cooler and freezer section.
I would prefer a Waeco but the cost new and 2nd hand is crazy.

  • A dump question:
Do you think worth spending $2,000 to get built-in fridge for off-roader such as new Defender or go with portable fridges like this?

    • +2

Portable for me, as you can use them around the house at Christmas and for parties.

  • +1

Ordered 45L one. If nothing else it'll be useful as an eski during summer parties 🤣

    Anyone else ordered/got one?

    • +1

I did. I'll let you know how it goes once it arrives.

  • Price increased?

    • No but they’ve removed coupons so back to RRP.

  • Ordered one 45L last night.

  • Arrived today. Looks good, just waiting 6 hours after unpacking it until running it - as recommended in instructions.
I must have misread whats included as i thought it came with an external cover.. it doesnt.
Whats good is that it has a strategically placed drain plug which is really handy for cleaning.

    Anyone got theirs yet?

    • +1

I did. Used it already to test when I went out for grocery shopping.

  • +1

I though it had a cover too, re-reading it wasn't on the list. I like the light, seems to cool well. No complaints here.

    • Yeah, the light is very handy 👍 unexpected surprise after plugging it in.

  • Quick update: took 1 hour to get fridge down to -18c on power with the divider in.

    • On Max or eco.

      • +1

        Max.

Left it running for an hour and then turned off the power at -18c.. went back to check the temperature 15 mins later and its already up to -12c so it definitely needs a bag cover if there's not much in the freezer side (left).

Note that i only had a bottle of water in the freezer compartment so with more frozen goods then it would have stayed frozen for longer.

The fridge stayed at the same temp.
