Recommend Me a Comfortable Executive Chair $200-300

I've recently had to return a chair after the moulding for the caster snapped off & I nearly broke my back when I suddenly fell backward while drinking coffee. The chair in question is an Ardmore Office Chair from Fantastic Furniture. It was one of the most comfortable executive chairs I've ever sat in. It's a shame the chair was less than 16 months old!

I'm looking for a replacement Executive Chair for working from home and regular computer tasks. I want to find something as comfortable as the Ardmore Office Chair. The majority of Officeworks chairs seem to be trash & I want something that can last a few decent years.

What do you people recommend I should look at?

I love my IKEA Markus. When my current one dies, I'll get another to replace it.

    • +1 Markus or JÄRVFJÄLLET

Also HATTEFJÄLL in leather finish is pretty alright too

Would recommend a hard rubbish Herman Miller from a corporate office move.

How much time are you spending in the chair?

I'm an advocate for not cheaping out on a bed and office chairs due to the large amount of time spent in them.

I recently got a steelcase leap v2 with no arms for less than $1k. The listing has disappeared so can't check if the discount code is still working.

  • 2 years on and still find the Matchspel chair comfortable for long hours.

    Pair it with:

    • Why do you need the additional bum cushion?

Additional padding makes it more comfortable for long sessions.

        • Until I lost a significant amount of weight recently, I had my own built in cushion. Maybe I need to go to Kmart.

  • I've recently had to return a chair after the moulding for the caster snapped off

    Weight Capacity: 120kgs

    Just saying…

For me, Herman Miller chair if sitting all day long in it.

    • I'm nowhere near 120kg LMAO!

Like I know I'm fat (100kg) but I'm well within' the limit of the chairs. I've got other chairs that are like 80kg limit but I haven't broken the moulding of them yet haha

  • According to the link you provided, the Ardmore chair has a three year warranty, but the exclusions would make it very hard to claim - apparently "deterioration" falls under normal wear and tear. Still, the breakage could be a one-off. What did Fantastic Furniture have to say when you took it back? I hope you got your money back.

Fantastic Furniture was actually very good about it. I called them up immediately after the incident happened and they asked me to sent some pictures to them of the damage. I received a response back minute latter from the manager saying to come in store for a replacement. They didn't have any more Ardmore chair in stock at my store, I looked at the Executive chair, which was also out of stock. I just immediately asked for a refund and they were able to provide to me on the spot.

  • Get a new castor for your current chair - can't let one defective part ruin your experience…. upgrade all the castors if you're a bit nervous, but that looks like one massively comfy chair!

Spot on. If thats not possible you need to actually sit in a few to try them out.

It wasn't the castors itself sadly, rather then the molding that holds the casters which is made out of plastic :(

It was one comfy chair, still shattered that it broke :(

  • Wow. Kudos to FF for even considering the return of a 16 month old chair (especially for a cosmetic rather than functional (fit for purpose) reason.
Good on 'em for sensible customer relations.
Hoping they get a goodwill sale with your choice of replacement.

    • Unfortunately it was functional failure and not cosmetic. The molding for the casters are apart of the bottom star base, which render it unsafe as the mold no longer stabilise the caster. I have attached pictures for your reference

If it was something cosmetic like a tear on the fabric or something trivial. I would of learned to live with it or advised FF on the cost of a replacement part.

I would of happy to pick one up from FF again and I would buy from FF again. However, there doesn't seem to be much stock of chairs in my store atm.
